SMART FUNCTION BLOCK FOR INTEGRATION OF PLCS INTO A CONTROL SYSTEM AND METHODS FOR THE SAME
A method for configuring a process control system includes coupling an I/O module to a PLC coupled to field devices. For each field device, the PLC has registers storing data of values associated with the field device. The PLC is configured such that each field device is associated with a PLC control tag, and each control tag is associated with tag parameters corresponding to the registers for the field device. The method includes configuring the I/O module to associate the tag parameters with corresponding controller parameters such that, for each control tag, there is a set of controller parameters associated with the tag parameters for the control tag. The method includes instantiating an integration object and associating the integration object with one of the control tags. The integration object configures itself, according to the set of controller parameters that is associated with the tag parameters for the control tag, as an analog input function block, a discrete input function block, an analog output function block, or a discrete output function block.
Generic Shadowing in Industrial Process Plants
Generic shadowing allows a shadowing device in a process plant to automatically discover, without pre-configuration or pre-definition, and without the use of a configuration tool, source control objects that are hosted at other devices and that are to be shadowed. Source control objects may utilize any data type, format, structure, language, etc. The shadowing device includes a shadow manager and a set of primitive components defining simple data types that are utilized to discover the configurations/definitions and data types of source control objects, and includes a shadow library in which signatures of discovered source control objects are stored. Signatures are instantiated and used by the shadowing device to provide dynamic data to recipient devices, applications, and/or control objects in the process control system, where the dynamic data is a mirror of data that is observed first-hand by the source control objects during their on-line operations at their host devices.
Configuration apparatus and method of configuring an automation system
To simplify a configuration of an automation system for a customer, a configuration apparatus for configuring an automation system of a customer is provided that comprises device components of one or more manufacturers, having a first software tool that is provided for inputting user data in customer-specific terminology is provided and stores the input user data in a data management sector; having a second software tool that is provided for receiving the user data and that has a calculation unit for determining configuration data from the user data, wherein the second software tool has at least one mapping algorithm that prepares the stored user data for the calculation unit into manufacturer-specific terminology, and wherein a storage of the user data and a storage of the configuration data by the second software tool can be carried out separately from the data management sector of the first software tool.
IMPLEMENTING CONTAINER-BASED HOSTED VISUALIZATION USING THIN CLIENTS
A system may include a computing system communicatively coupled to a plurality of client devices. The computing system may receive an indication of an event-based trigger for deploying visualization content, identify a deployment configuration file associated with the event-based trigger, and identify a first client device of the plurality of client devices for deploying a container specified in the deployment configuration file. The computing system may then schedule deployment of a pod associated with the container to the first client device. The first client device may then retrieve a container image associated with the pod, execute the container image to generate visualization content associated with the event-based trigger, and send the visualization content to a second client device of the plurality of client devices for display via an electronic display.
