A personal electronic device can include a main printed circuit board having disposed thereon a processing unit, one or more auxiliary circuits coupled to the main printed circuit board by one or more corresponding flexible printed circuits and one or more temperature sensors disposed on one of the flexible printed circuits. A processing unit of the portable electronic device can be configured to monitor the one or more temperature sensors, provide a warning in response to a monitored temperature exceeding a first threshold, and to cause a shutdown of at least a portion of the personal electronic device in response to the monitored temperature exceeding a second threshold. The temperature sensors can be negative temperature coefficient resistors.

FAN SPEED CONTROL VIA PCIE TOPOLOGY
20200097431 · 2020-03-26 ·

The present disclosure provides a system and method for retrieving temperature information of GPUs of a server system via PCIe topology, and using a baseboard management controller (BMC) to control fan speed(s) of cooling fans based at least upon the temperatures of the GPUs. In some implementations, the management controller can determine a PCIe topology of the server system via an operating system (OS), and get the BusID of each GPU or GPU card of the server system. Based upon the BusID, the management controller can retrieve temperature information of a corresponding GPU from a GPU library (e.g., NVIDIA Management Library [NVML]), and further control fan speed of cooling fan(s) based at least upon the temperature information.

Modem thermal management may include a state machine monitoring a temperature associated with a modem, setting a mode in response to detection of a change in the temperature with respect to a threshold, and applying a set of one or more thermal mitigation actions associated with a current state of the state machine. The state machine may set a timer in response to detection of the change in temperature and then transition from the current state to another state in response to expiration of the timer. The monitored temperature may be a junction temperature or a skin temperature.

Thermal management systems for electronic devices and related methods

Methods, apparatus, systems, and articles of manufacture are disclosed. An example electronic device disclosed herein includes a microphone and a thermal management system having a fan. The electronic device includes a processor to detect ambient noise via the microphone, identify a sound of interest value associated with the ambient noise and identify a background noise value associated with the ambient noise. The processor to determines a signal-to-noise ratio based on the sound of interest value and the background noise value and compares the signal-to-noise ratio to a sensitivity threshold. In response to determining that the signal-to-noise ratio exceeds the sensitivity threshold, the processor operates the thermal management system with one or more restrictions.
