Biopsy device with motorized needle firing
09833222 · 2017-12-05 · ·

A biopsy device comprises a needle, a body portion, and a needle firing assembly. The needle firing assembly is operable to fire the needle distally relative to the body portion. The needle firing assembly includes two translating members, a resilient member, and a motor. The motor is operable to selectively move the first translating member distally and proximally. The second translating member is secured relative to the needle such that the needle and the second translating member translate unitarily. The resilient member compresses as the first translating member is moved distally toward the second translating member. The first translating member is then secured to the second translating and the translating members are moved proximally while holding the resilient member in the compressed state. The second translating member is released from the first translating member when they reach a proximal position, which allows the resilient member to fire the needle distally.

This disclosure relates to a device for separating regenerative and/or adult stem cells from a fatty tissue taken from a biological structure. In one embodiment, the device includes a container for holding a substance mixture, the substance mixture including the fatty tissue and the regenerative and/or adult stem cells, and the container including at least two chambers separated from each other by at least one membrane. The device additionally includes a substance mixture feeding facility configured to introduce the substance mixture into the container, a rinsing agent feeding facility configured to introduce a fluid into the container, a stem cell removal facility configured to remove separated stem cells from the container, a rinsing agent removal facility configured to remove a substance mixture from the container that has been at least partially depleted of regenerative and/or adult stem cells, and a specifically permeable membrane.

Micro Punch for Targeted Material Excision

Described are a micro punch cutting tool and associated method that can be used under a microscope to accurately excise a targeted piece of material on a micron or millimeter scale. An example device for targeted material excision from a tissue sample includes a support defining an opening and providing a region below the opening for positioning a tissue sample. A tissue stabilizer is receivable in the opening and defines a shape that complements a shape of the support. A cutting tool assembly receivable in the tissue stabilizer includes a hollow cutter having a bore and is movable relative to the tissue stabilizer to cause the cutter to excise material from the tissue sample when the tissue sample is positioned below the opening of the support. Movement of the cutting tool assembly is guided by a helical groove in the tissue stabilizer engaging a protrusion of the cutting tool assembly.

Cannula for tissue disruption

A coiled shaft for tissue disruption is described herein where a flexible aspiration cannula has a first portion and a second portion formed of the coiled shaft. The cannula is configured in a particular embodiment to rotate over the length of the cannula to disrupt the matrix of bone marrow without the cannula buckling or collapsing. The cannula also includes a disruption tip coupled to the coiled shaft. The disruption tip has a radiused portion along a distal tip face of the disruption tip.

BIOPSY DEVICES AND RELATED METHODS

Apparatus and methods provided to remove biopsy specimens from bone and/or associated bone marrow. A powered driver may rotate a biopsy needle at an optimum speed to obtain the biopsy specimen. A thread or a groove may be disposed on interior portions of the biopsy needle. The thread or groove may engage a biopsy specimen and enhance removal of a bone marrow core from cancellous bone. Manufacturing procedures are provided for bonding a single helical thread with interior portions of the biopsy needle. The apparatus may also include a biopsy sample ejector and/or ejector funnel. A biopsy needle set may include a cannula and a trocar with respective tips having optimum configurations, dimensions and/or orientations relative to each other to optimize penetration of a bone and/or bone marrow with minimum patient trauma and enhanced reliability of obtaining a biopsy specimen.

REMOVABLE BIOCOMPATIBLE SUBSTRATE FILTER FOR A REAMING AND COLLECTION DEVICE

The present invention provides for a removable second stage biocompatible substrate filter that includes biocompatible implant material configured to trap second stage operative particulate matter that may include at least one of bone fragments, plasma, stem cells, cellular matter, and growth factors captured from irrigation fluid. The second stage biocompatible substrate filter may be configured to combine with bone fragments captured from irrigation fluid by a first stage filter and may be configured to be operable with a reaming and collection device.

SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR X-RAY IMAGING TISSUE SPECIMENS

An x-ray breast imaging system includes a breast support platform including an x-ray receptor, and an x-ray tube head. The x-ray tube head includes an x-ray source configured to emit an x-ray beam in a direction towards the x-ray receptor, and a collimator. A filter assembly including a plurality of filter slots selectively positionable adjacent to the collimator, and a specimen imaging filter disposed within a slot of the plurality of filter slots. The specimen imaging filter includes at least one aperture defined therein. The specimen imaging filter also blocks a portion of the emitted x-ray beam so that the at least one aperture defines a path of the emitted x-ray beam towards the x-ray receptor.

AUTOMATED, SELECTABLE, SOFT TISSUE EXCISION BIOPSY DEVICES AND METHODS
20170333010 · 2017-11-23 ·

An excisional biopsy and delivery device may comprise one or more rotating, penetrating and cutting rod elements. The rod elements may be configured to advance from a stored and confined first position and rotate about an axis, while being simultaneously revolved about a central axis. The rod elements may then assume a second released and expanded configuration that is operative to cut around and surround target tissue. In this manner, the rod elements are operative to move through the surrounding tissue to create a volume of revolution and to sever and capture the target tissue contained within the volume of revolution from the surrounding tissue. The severed and captured volume of revolution containing the target issue may then be removed.
