A method for adjusting the operation of a surgical instrument using machine learning in a surgical suite is disclosed.

Powered surgical instrument including a rotary drive screw

A powered surgical instrument comprising a housing, an elongate shaft, an articulation joint, a rotary drive member configured to rotate in response to rotary motion from an electric motor, a coupling portion, and a stapling attachment releasably attachable to the coupling portion is disclosed. The stapling attachment is secured to the coupling portion by rotating one of the stapling attachment and the coupling portion relative to the other of the stapling attachment and the coupling portion. The stapling attachment comprises an elongate channel configured to receive a staple cartridge. The stapling attachment further comprises an anvil, a drive screw, and a firing member operably engaged with the drive screw. The coupling portion operably couples the rotary drive member and the drive screw when the stapling attachment is attached to the elongate shaft. The firing member is advanced distally within the stapling attachment when the drive screw is rotated.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETERMINING POSITION OF A STEERABLE ASSEMBLY WITHIN TISSUE OF AN ANIMAL BODY

A system and method for determining position of a steerable assembly within tissue of an animal body utilizes an elongated body structure with an implement arranged at a distal end thereof, and a premagnetized material proximate to the distal end. A signal indicative of a length of insertion of the elongated body structure into the tissue is used with a signal indicative of (i) force, strain, shape of a sensor associated with the elongated body structure and/or (ii) directionality of magnetic field applied to the premagnetized material, to determine a three-dimensional (3D) trajectory of the steerable assembly. The 3D trajectory is superimposed on a 3D model of the tissue to determine position of the steerable assembly within the tissue.

A modular retractor may include a first body portion that houses a distraction mechanism for opening and closing a first arm and a second arm. A first pivoting member may be coupled to a distal end of the first arm and a second pivoting member may be coupled to a distal end of the second arm, for example. A first blade attachment mechanism may be coupled to the first pivoting member and a second blade attachment mechanism may be coupled to the second pivoting member. The first and second blade attachment mechanisms may be configured to couple to first and second blades and be independently inclinable. Various embodiments may include at least one connection point for connecting to at least one additional retractor module. Various embodiments may include at least one quick connect coupler for connecting to a snap on table mount.

Closed loop feedback control of motor velocity of a surgical stapling and cutting instrument based on measured displacement distance traveled over a specified time interval

A motorized surgical instrument is disclosed. The surgical instrument includes a displacement member, a motor coupled to the displacement member, a control circuit coupled to the motor, a position sensor coupled to the control circuit, and a timer circuit coupled to the control circuit. The timer circuit is configured to measure elapsed time and to to receive, from the position sensor, a position of the displacement member in a current zone during a set time interval, measure displacement of the displacement member at a set time at the end of the set time interval, wherein the measured displacement is defined as the distance traveled by the displacement member during the set time interval at a set command velocity for the current zone, and set a command velocity of the displacement member for a subsequent zone based on the measured displacement of the displacement member within the current zone.

Energy transfer system for spinal implants

An energy transfer system includes a spinal implant having an antenna, an antenna extender attached to a portion of the spinal implant in proximity to the antenna, and a reader device configured to send energy to the spinal implant via the antenna extender. The antenna extender extends away from the spinal implant. The spinal implant is configured to be positioned within a spinal area of a patient.

SURGICAL INSTRUMENT SYSTEM COMPRISING AN END EFFECTOR LOCKOUT AND A FIRING ASSEMBLY LOCKOUT

Surgical stapling instruments are disclosed comprising a staple cartridge, a firing member, and a cartridge lockout configured to prevent the firing member from being advanced through the staple cartridge if the staple cartridge has been already spent. The stapling instruments further comprise a lockout in the shaft that responds to the cartridge lockout blocking the firing member.

DISTRACTION DEVICE WITH REFLECTOR

A system for evaluating the evolution of a subject's bone structure, including an implantable medical device and a calculation module for computing a parameter representative of the bone structure. The implantable medical device has a distraction body and reflector(s). The distraction body distracts osteotomically separated bone section bodies and includes first/second blocks for implantation and attachment to first/second bone sections, the second bone section separated from the first bone section by an osteotomy, and an actuator for adjusting space between the first/second blocks, enabling distraction between the first/second bone sections. Each reflector reflects an electromagnetic signal and is embedded in a surrounding tissue when the distraction body is attached to the bone. The parameter is computed from the reflected signal, of an excitation signal including a frequency in the characteristic frequency range of each reflector, the reflected signal being representative of a dielectric constant of the surrounding tissue.
