LASER IRRADIATION DEVICE
A laser irradiation device for irradiating laser to a tissue includes: a decrease form determination unit configured to determine a decrease form of laser power according to a laser irradiation time; a decrease rate determination unit configured to determine a decrease rate of the determined decrease form; a laser light source unit configured to emit laser in the determined decrease form and the determined decrease rate; and a laser irradiation unit configured to receive laser emitted from the laser light source unit and irradiate the received laser. A constant photoreaction can be induced by constantly maintaining a temperature in a site to be irradiated with laser.
Angle-opening glaucoma treatment methods and apparatus
An iridocorneal angle of the eye can be opened with a plurality of treatment locations at least about 2 mm radially outward from a limbus of the eye. The opening on the angle can be beneficial for treating both narrow angle glaucoma and open angle glaucoma. The plurality of treatment locations located away from the limbus can decrease invasiveness and complexity of the procedure. The plurality of treatment locations at least about 2 mm away from the limbus can provide tensioning to zonules coupled to the lens of the eye to flatten the lens of the eye, which can allow the iris to move posteriorly so as to open the iridocorneal angle. The plurality of treatment locations may comprise scleral locations, in which shrinkage of scleral tissue at the plurality of treatment locations provides tensioning to the zonules.
Electrosurgical Connection Unit
An electrosurgical connection unit for a surgical robot arm to connect an electrosurgical instrument attached to the arm to an electrosurgical generator. The electrosurgical connection unit includes an input port connectable to the electrosurgical generator, the input port configured to receive a driving electrosurgical signal and output one or more activation signals; an output port connectable to the electrosurgical instrument, the output port configured to output the driving electrosurgical signal received on the input port; one or more activation switch units, wherein activation of an activation switch unit causes an activation signal to be output from the input port indicating a driving electrosurgical signal with a desired waveform is to be activated; and a control unit configured to selectively activate one of the one or more activation switch units in response to a control signal.
Electrically enhanced retrieval of material from vessel lumens
Retrieval of material from vessel lumens can be improved by electrically enhancing attachment of the material to the thrombectomy system. The system can include a catheter having a distal portion configured to be positioned adjacent to a thrombus in a blood vessel, an electrode disposed at the distal portion of the catheter, and an interventional element configured to be delivered through a lumen of the catheter. The electrode and the interventional element are each configured to be electrically coupled to an extracorporeal power supply.
METHOD OF REDUCING RETRO-REPULSION DURING LASER LITHOTRIPSY
A method of reducing retro-repulsion of a stone during a laser lithotripsy procedure involves the use of a spacer tip or standoff sleeve to create a passage between the tip of a fiber and a stone, and to prevent collapse of a bubble formed by vaporization of and/or gas pressure on liquid present in the passage. The laser radiation may consist of continuous or quasi-continuous wave radiation that is relatively low in power compared to the therapeutic pulses, or may consist of the therapeutic pulses if the pulse frequency is high enough to prevent collapse of the bubble between pulses. The spacer tip or standoff sleeve further prevents collapse of the bubble and ingress of liquid into the laser path. The spacer tip or standoff sleeve may be a generally-cylindrical protective cap that is fitted to an end of the optical fiber and that extends beyond the fiber tip to provide a predetermined spacing or standoff between the fiber tip and the stone when the protective cap is in contact with the stone. Alternatively, the spacer tip or standoff sleeve may be a catheter sleeve that permits axial adjustment of fiber position within the sleeve.
Multi-mode surgical tool
Thermal, electrosurgical and mechanical modalities may be combined in a surgical tool. Potentially damaging effects in a first modality may be minimized by using a secondary modality. In one example, thermal hemostasis may thus help electrosurgical applications avoid the adverse tissue effects associated with hemostatic monopolar electrosurgical waveforms while retaining the benefits of using monopolar incising waveforms.
Thermally adjustable surgical system and method
A power source delivers oscillating electrical energy to an electrical conductor, such as a wire or catheter, which is coated circumferentially with a ferromagnetic material in a selected region. With high frequency electrical energy, the ferromagnetic material has a quick response in heating and cooling adjustable by the controllable power delivery. The ferromagnetic material can be used for separating tissue, coagulation, tissue destruction or achieving other desired tissue effects in numerous surgical procedures.
A CLOT RETRIEVAL SYSTEM FOR REMOVING OCCLUSIVE CLOT FROM A BLOOD VESSEL
A system for removing occlusive clot from a blood vessel comprises a catheter and an apparatus for generating a pulsatile vacuum force to pulse the pressure gradient at a distal end of the catheter. The pulse generator may be integral with or separate from the vacuum pump. The pulse generator may be applied to a flexible tubing between the vacuum pump and the proximal end of the catheter.
ULTRASONIC SURGICAL SYSTEM FOR OSSEOUS TRANSECTION
A surgical system for transecting osseous tissue includes an ultrasonic waveform generator, a control unit, an ultrasonic instrument assembly including a electromechanical transducer and an ultrasonic blade, and a robotic system. The ultrasonic instrument assembly is attached to the robotic arm. The surgical system is configured so that the robotic arm moves the ultrasonic blade at a constant forward feed speed through the bone during a cutting operation and so that the forward motion is reduced, and preferably halted automatically upon a reduction in load per unit time or applied power, as monitored by a pickup or sensor.
