ADJUSTABLE INTERATRIAL DEVICES
Closure devices that selectively control blood flow between the right atrium and the left atrium of a heart of a patient. The control of blood flow can be based on detected values from a pressure sensor. The closure devices can include a body configured to engage native tissue when the device is deployed across the septal wall. In a first state at least a portion of (an inner surface of) a lumen is closed, preventing blood flow through the closure device. Ina second state, the lumen is open to enable blood flow from the left atrium to the right atrium. A closure element can be selectively adjusted to control the flow of blood through the lumen. A volume of an expandable chamber can be increased or decreased to place the closure device into the first state or the second state.
COMPACT ULTRASONIC TRANSDUCER AND ULTRASONIC SURGICAL INSTRUMENT INCLUDING THE SAME
A compact ultrasonic transducer for an ultrasonic surgical instrument includes a proximal casing defining a hollow interior and a piezoelectric rod array including a plurality of piezoelectric rods radially spaced-apart from one another and arranged in a longitudinally-oriented direction. The piezoelectric rod array is disposed within the hollow interior. The compact ultrasonic transducer further includes a distal horn including a distal connector configured to engage a waveguide. The distal horn is configured to engage the proximal casing to enclose the piezoelectric rod array within the hollow interior. An ultrasonic surgical instrument including the compact ultrasonic transducer is also provided.
MULTIFUNCTION MICRODERMABRASION WAND
A multifunctional microdermabrasion wand provides to the wand operator the capability to perform microdermabrasion of a skin surface while simultaneously delivering one or more skin treatment serums. The operator can also simultaneously deliver ultrasonic energy through the wand to the skin surface. The operational controls for the multifunctional wand provide for operator control of the quantity delivered of one or more serums. The system also provides operator control of the ultrasonic energy delivered by the wand and a feed back control system to maintain a preset energy delivery level. The wand allows for conducting microdermabrasion, serum infusion and ultrasonic energy delivery to the skin surface in any combination simultaneously as well as serially.
POWERED SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS WITH COMMUNICATION INTERFACES THROUGH STERILE BARRIER
A modular surgical instrument system that comprises modular components and a control circuit electrically couplable to the modular components. The modular components comprise a shaft and a handle assembly. The handle assembly comprises a disposable outer housing. The disposable outer housing is movable between an open configuration and a closed configuration. The handle assembly further comprises a control inner core receivable inside the disposable outer housing in the open configuration. The disposable outer housing is configured to isolate the control inner core in the closed configuration. The modular components further comprise a loading unit releasably couplable to the shaft and a staple cartridge releasably couplable to an end effector. The loading unit comprises the end effector. The control circuit is configured to generate an interrogation signal, detect a response signal, determine a modular configuration of the modular surgical instrument system, and assess authenticity of the modular configuration.
Ultrasonic probe for calculi treatment
A method of treating a calculi mass can include using an ultrasonic probe to produce acoustic energy and fragment the mass. The method can include varying the frequency at which fragmentation occurs to treat the mass with a resonant frequency. The ultrasonic probe can have a distal tip for contact with the mass, where the tip has a morphology for concentrating stress on the mass. The ultrasonic probe can have two or more ultrasonic horns to allow for higher voltage and power levels.
Ultrasonic horn, ultrasonic transducer assembly, and ultrasonic surgical instrument including the same
An ultrasonic horn, an ultrasonic transducer assembly including the same, and an ultrasonic surgical instrument including the same. The ultrasonic horn includes a body and a nose. The body defines a length and a maximum diameter of the ultrasonic horn. The body includes at least one depression arranged annularly thereabout that is configured to receive at least one protrusion for mounting the body within a support structure. The nose extends distally from the body. The body defines a proximal connector configured to enable the body to be secured to a piezoelectric stack and the nose defines a distal connector configured to enable the nose to be engaged with a waveguide for transmission of ultrasonic energy produced by the piezoelectric stack to the waveguide.
Ultrasonic surgical instruments
An ultrasonic surgical instrument is disclosed including a handle including a pivoting handle portion, an end effector configured to treat tissue, a waveguide extending to the end effector, a battery and a vibration generating system selectively operable in a plurality of energizing operating states. The plurality of energizing operating states consists of a first operating state in which a first power is supplied to the end effector and a second operating state in which a second power is supplied to the end effector. The first power is different than the second power. The vibration generating system includes a transducer selectively attachable to the handle and a switch configured to operably switch the vibration generating system between the first operating state and the second operating state. The switch is further configured to operably switch the vibration generating system between the plurality of energizing operating states and a non-energizing operating state.
BLADE COOLING GAS/FLUID STORAGE
A surgical instrument includes a body, a shaft assembly, an end effector, a clamp actuator, and a blade cooling system. The end effector has a clamp arm and an ultrasonic blade coupled with an ultrasonic transducer. The clamp arm is configured to selectively move from a first actuator position toward a second actuator position thereby directing movement of the clamp arm from the open position toward the closed position, respectively. The cooling system is operable to deliver fluid coolant to the ultrasonic blade to thereby cool the ultrasonic blade while the clamp actuator remains in the first actuator position.
CONTROL ALGORITHM ADJUSTMENT FOR A SURGICAL STAPLING ASSEMBLY BASED ON SITUATIONAL AWARENESS
A method of adjusting a staple parameter of a surgical stapling instrument is disclosed. The method includes determining, by a control circuit of the surgical stapling instrument, a first stroke length for a first staple driver of the surgical stapling instrument to drive a first row of staples of a circular stapling head assembly of the surgical stapling instrument; detecting, by the control circuit, a malformed staple in the first row of staples; adjusting, by the control circuit, the staple parameter, based on the detection of the malformed staple; and determining, by the control circuit, a second stroke length for a second staple driver of the surgical stapling instrument to drive a second row of staples of the circular stapling head assembly.
