SURGICAL STAPLING DEVICE WITH FLEXIBLE SHAFT

A surgical stapling device includes a tool assembly having an anvil assembly and a shell assembly. The shell assembly includes a housing that supports first and second motors, a staple cartridge supporting a plurality of staples, and a knife. The first motor can be energized to eject the staples from the staple cartridge and the second motor can be energized to advance the knife to cut tissue.

ULTRASONIC TRANSDUCER ASSEMBLY FOR A SURGICAL INSTRUMENT AND METHOD OF ASSEMBLING THE SAME

A ultrasonic transducer assembly of an ultrasonic surgical instrument includes a horn, a piezoelectric stack positioned proximally of the horn, a proximal end mass positioned proximally of the piezoelectric stack, and a rod extending through the piezoelectric stack. The rod includes a proximal end portion directly secured to the proximal end mass and a distal end portion directly secured to the horn to thereby maintain the piezoelectric stack in compression against the horn.

MULTI-PILLAR PIEZOELECTRIC STACK ULTRASOUND TRANSDUCER AND METHODS FOR USING SAME

A multi-pillar piezoelectric stack (MPPS) ultrasound transducer includes N pillars, each formed of a stack of M piezoelectric elements, N and M being integers of at least two. The ultrasound transducer further includes a bonding layer between each pair of the M piezoelectric elements. The pillars are laterally spaced from each other to form an inter-pillar gap. The transducer further includes at least one electrical interconnect for connecting the ultrasound transducer to a signal source. Through the MPPS design, the therapeutic range and the transducer sensitivity are increased over the conventional single pillar piezoelectric stack (SPPS) transducer design.

In one general aspect, various embodiments are directed to an ultrasonic surgical instrument that comprises a transducer configured to produce vibrations along a longitudinal axis at a predetermined frequency. In various embodiments, an ultrasonic blade extends along the longitudinal axis and is coupled to the transducer. In various embodiments, the ultrasonic blade includes a body having a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the distal end is movable relative to the longitudinal axis by the vibrations produced by the transducer.

Surgical instrument configured to operate in different states

A surgical instrument comprising a firing system configured to perform one or more staple firing strokes, a power system, and a control system is disclosed. The firing system comprises a cutting member and an electric motor configured to drive the cutting member through each staple firing stroke and retract the cutting member after each staple firing stroke. The control system comprises a powered operating state in which the power system has enough power to drive the cutting member through a staple firing stroke, a limited-power operating state for placing the surgical instrument in a default condition that has sufficient functionality to retract the cutting member, a firing system lockout configured to prevent the firing system from performing a staple firing stroke when the control system is in the limited-power operating state, and a display configured to indicate that the surgical instrument is in the limited-power operating state.

A curving section is always disposed in a projection plane of a probe main body section. The curving section includes a first bending surface which bends relative to a peripheral surface of the probe main body section to approach a longitudinal axis, thereby intersecting the longitudinal axis; a second bending surface which bends relative to the first bending surface toward a bending direction of the first bending surface and a direction away from the longitudinal axis; a third bending surface which bends relative to the second bending surface toward a direction to approach the longitudinal axis on a side reverse to the bending direction of the first bending surface, and extends toward an extension line of the first bending surface.

EPIDURAL DELIVERY DEVICE

A device for safe epidural drug delivery configured to be used with standard epidural stylet and needle. The correct placement of an epidural needle and stylet within the epidural space is provided with the device comprising at least one position sensor for determining the relative position of both an epidural needle and stylet and relative to one another.

MRI-GUIDED STEREOTACTIC SURGERY METHOD AND MRI-COMPATIBLE STEREOTACTIC SURGERY DEVICE

A MRI-guided stereotactic surgery method including the following steps: assigning coordinates of a surgery target point of a surgery cannula and an insertion direction of the surgery cannula; performing coordinate transformation to transform the coordinates of the surgery target point into an insertion position of the surgery target point; substituting the insertion position and the insertion direction into an inverse kinematics model to obtain five parameters respectively corresponding to five degrees of freedom of a MRI-compatible stereotactic surgery device; controlling the MRI-compatible stereotactic surgery device according to the parameters to start a stereotactic surgery procedure, thereby inserting the surgery cannula; obtaining an actual cannula position according to a magnetic resonance (MR) image; comparing the actual cannula position with the surgery target point to obtain an actual position vector; and withdrawing the surgery cannula to finish the stereotactic surgery procedure when the actual position vector is acceptable.

The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods for operating an electromechanical surgical system. The electromechanical surgical system includes a hand-held surgical instrument including an instrument housing defining a connecting portion for selectively connecting with a shaft assembly. The system also includes an end effector configured to perform at least one function. The shaft assembly is arranged for selectively interconnecting the end effector and the hand-held surgical instrument. The shaft assembly includes a drive member, a flag member configured to translate axially along the drive member, and a sensor disposed about the drive member. The sensor provides a signal indicating that the end effector has reached an end stop when the flag member contacts that sensor.
