Adjustable registration frame
A system for determining the position and orientation of a medical device relative to an image space during image-guided medical procedures. The system comprises a flexible pad mounted on the subject such that a part covers the region of interest. The pad incorporates detectable registration members. Prior to the procedure, the device is coupled to the pad, which is then rigidized, so that there is no movement of the registration members relative to each other and relative to the device. The fixed relationship between the device and the registration members is determined from initial images, for example using detectable markers attached to the device, enabling the pose of the device relative to the image space of images of the region of interest to be determined later, even if the device is remote from the region of interest. This minimizes exposure of the subject and medical staff to radiation.
SHAPE-FORMABLE APPARATUS COMPRISING LOCKING SHEETS
A shape-formable apparatus comprising locking sheets. The apparatus can have a first state in which the apparatus is formable, and a second state in which the apparatus has the desired shape and is substantially less formable than in the first state. The apparatus can further include an envelope defining a chamber, a port positioned to fluidly couple the chamber with ambience, and at least two locking sheets positioned in the chamber in an at least partially overlapping configuration. Each locking sheet comprises a major surface, and at least a portion of each locking sheet can be patterned to include solid regions and open regions, the solid regions being movable with respect to one another within the major surface.
METHODS OF USING A SHAPE-FORMABLE APPARATUS COMPRISING LOCKING SHEETS
Method of using a shape-formable apparatus. A shape-formable apparatus can include an envelope defining a chamber, a port positioned to fluidly couple the chamber with ambience, and at least two locking sheets positioned in the chamber in an at least partially overlapping configuration. Each locking sheet can include a major surface, and at least a portion of each locking sheet can be patterned to include solid regions and open regions, the solid regions being movable with respect to one another within the major surface. The method can include providing the shape-formable apparatus in a first state; forming the apparatus into a desired shape; and reducing the pressure in the chamber to change the apparatus from the first state to a second state in which the apparatus is substantially less formable than in the first state.
Gastric reduction apparatus and related methods
The invention relates to a method and apparatus for endoscopically shaping and standardizing the size of a sleeved stomach for use in gastric reduction surgery. The device and method standardize and streamline gastric reduction surgery, specifically vertical sleeve gastrectomy, providing a guide for creating the stomach reduction and also shaping a stomach which will maintain an appropriate structure post-surgery.
SYSTEM FOR OCCLUSION OF LEFT ATRIAL APPENDAGE
An epicardial implant having a positioning device that defines an open interior. The positioning device is configured to be detachably coupled with an implant delivery device such that the positioning device may be detached from the implant delivery device after the implant is in place about an atrial appendage. The positioning device has first and second sides with a distal end that couples the first and second sides. The implant includes an expandable cuff coupled with the positioning device. The positioning device is configured to selectively move the expandable cuff toward and away from an atrial appendage to position the expandable cuff in a desired position relative to the atrial appendage. The expandable cuff is expandable into at least a portion of the open interior of the positioning device to physically occlude a base of the atrial appendage following placement of the expandable cuff into the desired position.
TROCAR FOR CLEANING MEDICAL DEVICES THEREIN
A trocar (10) is provided which permits cleaning of a medical device herein. In aspects, the trocar (10) has a seal (50) at a distal portion of the trocar (10). In use, a medical device, such as a laparoscope (200), passes through the seal (50) at the distal portion of the trocar (10). To clean a lens (210) at the end of the laparoscope (200), a vacuum is applied to the interior of the trocar (10), the laparoscope (200) is partially withdrawn so that it is proximal to the seal (50), and liquids and/or gases are introduced into the trocar (10) to clean the lens (210) while the laparoscope (200) remains within the trocar (10).
FLEXIBLE CANNULA HAVING SELECTIVE RIGIDITY
A surgical access device includes a housing having a tubular member extending therefrom. The tubular member has inner and outer walls defining an annular lumen therebetween. A passageway extends between proximal and distal openings of the tubular member. The passageway is configured to receive a surgical instrument therethrough. A conduit is disposed in the annular lumen and includes spiral segments where each spiral segment is engaged with an adjacent spiral segment. The conduit is flexible in a first state and is fixed in a second state. A valve assembly is coupled to the housing and includes a port that is in fluid communication with the annular lumen. The port is attachable to a source of fluid.
System for occlusion of left atrial appendage
A device for occluding an atrial appendage includes a catheter-deliverable epicardial implant that is detachably secured to a delivery device. The implant includes an inflatable cuff that is positionable about the atrial appendage to an extent that, when adjustably inflated, the cuff physiologically occludes the atrial appendage. Such occlusion addresses health risks associated with atrial fibrillation and cardiac rhythm disorder.
CONTROLLED AND PRECISE TREATMENT OF CARDIAC TISSUES
Compositions, systems, devices, and methods for performing precise chemical treatment of tissues are disclosed. Systems, devices, and methods for administering a chemical agent to one or more a precise regions within a tissue mass are disclosed. Compositions, systems, devices, and methods for treating targeted regions within a tissue mass are disclosed. Systems, devices, and methods for identifying, localizing, monitoring neural traffic in the vicinity of, quantifying neural traffic in the vicinity of, and mapping neural traffic near targeted regions within a tissue mass are disclosed.
ENDOSCOPE WITH SHARED WORKING CHANNEL
A method and system are disclosed for opening a workspace inside a lumen of a living creature are disclosed. Anchors may be affixed to opposite ends of the workspace. An extender may be distance anchors apart while they are affixed to the walls of the workspace. Distancing the anchors may unfold and/or stretch the lumen in the region of the workspace.
