A surgical system includes a disposable force sensor pod that includes a load cell and a mounting feature. The surgical system also includes a computing system configured to be placed in electronic communication with the disposable force sensor pod and receive a force measurement from the disposable force sensor pod. The disposable force sensor pod is configured to be removeably coupled to a distraction device using the mounting feature.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR GUIDING CUTS TO A FEMUR AND TIBIA DURING A KNEE ARTHROPLASTY
An assembly for guiding resection of a femur and tibia of a knee joint in preparation for installing a femoral and tibial knee components. For example, the assembly can include tibial and femoral IM rods to which are connected through a tensioning bolt that allows controlled adjustment of the distraction of the tibia and femur during cut positioning in a range of flexion angles. Also, the assembly is usable with relatively small, noninvasive approaches to the knee joint by way of relatively narrow, low profile components that attach to tibial and femoral IM rods. Further, the assembly includes several quick-release components to allow fast assembly and disassembly in a surgical setting. Each of these aspects, along with the ability of the assembly to accurately guide initial reference cuts to the tibia and femur, promotes an improved outcome for the patient.
APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR JOINT CHARACTERIZATION AND TREATMENT
A method for imparting tension across a human knee joint which includes a femur bone, a tibia bone, a patella bone, a patellar tendon, and ligaments, wherein the ligaments and patellar tendon are under anatomical tension to connect the femur and tibia together, creating a load-bearing articulating joint. The method includes: providing a tensioning device, including: a baseplate; a top plate; and a linkage interconnecting the baseplate and the top plate and operable to move the tensioning device between retracted and extended positions, wherein the top plate is pivotally connected to the linkage so as to be able to freely pivot about a pivot axis; positioning the tensioning device between the femur and the tibia; applying an actuating force to the linkage to move the tensioning device towards the extended position, so as to impart a controlled separating force driving the femur and tibia apart to extend the ligaments.
LIGAMENT RETRACTOR
A retractor assembly may include a retractor removably coupled with a retractor handle. The retractor may include a handle connection feature, a retractor shaft, an arcuate projection having a convex retractor surface and a cutting shield surface, and a guide projection having an aperture shaped to receive at least a portion of a femoral condyle therein to position the retractor relative to a tibial plateau. The retractor handle may include a handle portion and a retractor connection feature. The retractor may be placed on a lateral side of a medial collateral ligament of a knee joint to retract the medial collateral ligament away from a tibial plateau of the knee joint and protect the medial collateral ligament during a tibial plateau resection procedure.
Orthopedic joint distraction device
An orthopedic distraction device is provided. The orthopedic distraction device includes a first upper paddle for engaging a first bone of a joint, a lower paddle for engaging a second bone of the joint and a displacement mechanism. The displacement mechanism includes a drive assembly operable to move the upper paddle relative to the lower paddle. The lower paddle is releasably connected to the displacement mechanism.

The measurement module houses the electronic circuitry and at least one sensor. The measurement module is adapted to be used with the first plurality of shims and the second plurality of shims. The measurement module has a medial surface that differs from a lateral surface by shape, size, or contour.
ARTHOPLASTY SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR OPTIMALLY ALIGNING AND TENSIONING A KNEE PROSTHESIS
A combination of a first assembly for guiding resection of a femur and tibia of a knee joint and a second assembly including femoral and tibial knee components. The combination of the first assembly and the second assembly provides optimal placement and positioning of the femoral and tibial knee components to achieve near-normal knee kinematics and tension. The preparation for and placement of the prosthetic knee components provides medial-pivoting kinematics mimicking that of the natural knee thereby promoting improved outcome for the patient.

A surgical instrument (1) for knee balancing, comprising: a static tibial element (2) including a base and a tibial paddle (21); a femoral element (3) including a femoral paddle (31) and a femoral arm; a movable element (4) including a guide (40) movable in translation on the base according to a longitudinal axis (AL), wherein the femoral element is pivotally mounted on said movable element according to an anterior-posterior axis (AP), and a transverse arm; a system (5) for setting the mobility of said guide in order to provide a distraction function; a reversible blocking system coupled between the transverse arm and the femoral arm to pivotally immobilize the femoral element with respect to the movable element in a reversible manner in order to set the pivot angle of the femoral paddle with respect to the tibial paddle at different angle values.

A method of planning and preparing for a surgical procedure can comprise: generating a three-dimensional bone model for one or more bones; sizing the one or more bones based on the three-dimensional model; recording a surgical plan based on the three-dimensional bone model; selecting a first surgical tool for the one or more bone based on the surgical plan; and evaluating selection of a second surgical tool based on a performance parameter of the first surgical tool.

A surgery device for operating on the human knee. The surgery device comprises a guide component and a tensioning component. The guide component comprises a base body having a base surface for disposing on a tibial end face and comprises guide elements extending from the base surface. The tensioning component is set up for tensioning the guide component such that the ligaments of the knee are uniformly tensioned in the flexed state of the knee. A truing and drilling component for truing and drilling a femoral end face can be pushed onto the guide elements and fixed at various positions relative to the base surface. The risk of injury and misuse during the surgery on a human knee is reduced and the duration of surgery is shortened by means of the surgery device according to the invention.
