A Method and Apparatus for Joint Reconstruction
Apparatus and methods for replacing a knee joint with an implant prosthesis are described. The method includes distracting the knee, locating the pre-diseased joint line of the knee and referencing cuts to the femur and tibia in the coronal plane relative to the joint line. The method further comprises determining the posterior slope of a cut to the tibia in the sagittal plane such that the gaps between the tibia and femur in extension and flexion are substantially equal. Apparatus for use in the method is described, including a distractor for distracting the joint, a joint level finder for finding the pre-diseased joint line and a flexion gap optimisation device.
AN ARRANGEMENT AND METHOD USED IN THE PREPARATION OF THE PROXIMAL SURFACE OF THE TIBIA FOR THE TIBIAL COMPONENT OF A PROSTHETIC KNEE JOINT
An arrangement for the preparation of the proximal surface of the tibia for a tibial component of a prosthetic knee joint including a tibial and femoral stability gap preparation plate having a plurality of user operable height adjustable extension tabs that define a stability gap. A stability gap guide drill plate adapted to act as a guide for a drill bit to drill a series of bore holes into the proximal surface of the tibia to a depth commensurate with the height adjustment of the user operable height adjustable extension tabs and a stability gap router plate adapted to allow a router to complete a final bone resection on the surface of the tibia to rout or cut away bone about each of the series of bore holes so as to provide a stable balanced complete angular movement between a tibial component and a femoral component of the prosthetic knee joint throughout an arc of motion from extension, mid-flexion and flexion.
JOINT GAP BALANCING LEVER AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF
A joint distraction lever includes a lever body, a foot coupled to the lever body via a hinge such that the foot is rotatable relative to the lever body, and a force sensor positioned between a bottom surface of the lever body and the foot and configured to measure a force of the foot on the bottom surface of the lever body during a joint distraction procedure in which a torque is applied to the lever body.
Dynamic Ligament Balancing System
A method and system for measuring tension, pressure, and distance of knee tissue, the system comprising a prosthetic inlay device comprising at least two platform structures, wherein each of the platforms are supported on a scissor arm structure and a coil spring, a force sensing sensor configured beneath each coil spring, and a connector cable coupled to the force sensing sensors.
Method for placing implant using robotic system
A method for placing an implant on a patient in a robotic surgical procedure using a robotic system. During the robotic surgical procedure, a navigation system tracks the patient. The navigation system also provides information to the robotic system to guide movement of a cutting tool to remove material from the patient such that a cut surface is created to receive the implant. The implant is then robotically placed on the cut surface.
Electronic force measuring joint distraction lever and method of use thereof
A joint distraction lever for use during a distraction procedure is disclosed. The joint distraction lever includes a lever body having a handle portion coupled to a working portion, a fulcrum extending from a bottom surface of the working portion of the lever body, a distal tip, wherein the distal tip is raised above a top surface of the working portion of the lever body, a force measurement device configured to measure a distraction force applied at the distal tip during a distraction procedure for a joint during which a torque is applied at the handle portion of the lever body, and a force value output configured to indicate the distraction force applied at the distal tip.
Distraction device with disposable force sensor pod
A surgical system includes a disposable force sensor pod that includes a load cell and a mounting feature. The surgical system also includes a computing system configured to be placed in electronic communication with the disposable force sensor pod and receive a force measurement from the disposable force sensor pod. The disposable force sensor pod is configured to be removeably coupled to a distraction device using the mounting feature.
Ligament-tensioning device and method
A ligament-tensioning device and method for activation of the ligament and/or capsule system in the implantation of a joint implant. The device includes a distal bearing plate for bearing against a distal skeletal part, and also includes first and second proximal bearing plates, each of which partially overlaps the distal bearing plate in a first in-use position, for bearing against a proximal skeletal part. The device further includes means for relative displacement of the proximal bearing plates to increase their spacing from the distal bearing plate. The displacement means includes a scissor-type guide means that supports the respective proximal bearing plate in the ventral-dorsal as well as the medial-lateral parallel position with respect to the distal bearing plate.
Knee spacer system with adjustable separator
The invention relates to a knee spacer for temporary replacement of an artificial knee joint, whereby the knee spacer comprises a tibial component (11) and a separator (12), whereby the tibial component (11) comprises a running surface (14) by means of which the tibial component (11), in the patient-inserted state, can be placed against a femoral component (28) in mobile manner, and whereby the separator (12) comprises a contact surface (15) for placing on the tibia (22) and the contact surface (15) is adjustable at a variable distance from the running surface (14) of the tibial component (11). The invention also relates to a method for adapting a knee spacer to a treatment scenario, comprising a tibial component (11) and a separator (12), whereby the tibial component (11) comprises a running surface (14) for placing against a femoral component (28) in mobile manner, and the separator (12) comprises a contact surface (15) for placing on the tibia (22), whereby the method involves adjusting the distance between the contact surface (15) and the running surface (14). The invention also relates to the use of a knee spacer of this type as temporary place-holder in a knee of a patient.
Probe unit, treatment instrument, and treatment system
A probe unit includes, a probe configured to treat a bone by ultrasonic vibration, a hollow sheath which surrounds the probe and which has a first portion at a small distance from a central axis, and a second portion at a greater distance from the central axis than the first portion, and a knob configured to rotate the sheath relative to the probe between a first position for insertion between the bone and a living tissue facing the bone so that the first portion is located between the bone and the living tissue and a second position for insertion between the bone and the living tissue so that the second portion is located between the bone and the living tissue.
