Devices are provided for a suturing device used during laparoscopic surgical procedures. A suturing needle includes a shaft forming a rod axis; a curved body having a piercing tip at a first end and a base at a second end; and an arm extending from the shaft to the base of the curved body such that the curved body is rotatable about the shaft. The suturing device includes a housing, a suturing needle, one or more sutures, a suture magazine configured to hold the one or more sutures, and a drive system, whereby the drive system may actuate the suturing needle to rotate, allowing the suturing needle to drive into and out of tissue to apply a suture.

SURGICAL SUTURING INSTRUMENTS

A surgical suturing instrument includes first and second jaw members each defining a hole for detachable receipt of opposite ends of a curved needle. The first jaw member is rotatable relative to the second jaw member to move and transfer the curved needle between the jaw members. A first elongate locking element is slidable within the first jaw member between non-locking and locking positions. When the first elongate locking element is in the locking position and the curved needle is disposed within the hole of the first jaw member, a portion of the first elongate locking element is received in a notch defined in an end of the curved needle to selectively secure the curved needle to the first jaw member.

BENDING TOOLS AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF

A single-patient-use disposable tool comprises a molded, single-piece body with a curved upper surface having a predetermined bend radius for bending a needle slidably disposed in a sheath. A distal end of the curved surface has a slot for insertion of a tip of a needle, while the proximal end of the curved surface has a guide member for slidably receiving the sheath. Two finger loops or similar ergonomic features allow the user to rotate the bending tool relative to the sheath to bend the needle about the predetermined bend radius. After completing the bend, the tool is removed from the needle and disposed of.

A surgical stitching device is configured for single hand operation that enables passage of a suture needle through tissue with minimal operational requirement. The surgical needle is selectively securable to a tool assembly of the surgical stitching device. The tool assembly includes a jaw configured to securely support various surgical needles in various orientations.

Subcutaneous tissue device

A medical device and methods for hemostasis in a living body are disclosed. The medical device including a base configured to arranged on an upper surface of the tissue in the living body; a plurality of levers, each of the plurality of levers having a needle arranged on a lower surface thereof and configured to puncture the tissue in the living body, and wherein the plurality of lever are configured to be received with a slot or track of the base; and at least one tie, the at least one tie configured to hold together the plurality levers and needles upon compressing the tissue in the living body upon moving the plurality of levers inward in the slot or track of the base.

A suturing device for minimally invasive surgery is disclosed. The suturing device has a head defining one or more ferrule holders and a tissue bite area. The device also has a first needle comprising a flywheel portion and one or more curved arms extending from the flywheel portion, each of the one or more curved arms comprising a ferrule engaging tip, wherein the first needle is pivotably coupled to the head. The suturing device further has a first actuator coupled to the first needle and configured to rotate it from a retracted position, where the ferrule engaging tip of each of the one or more curved arms starts away from the one or more ferrule holders, through the tissue bite area, and to an engaged position where the ferrule engaging tip of each of the one or more curved arms is operationally aligned with the one or more ferrule holders.

RECONFIGURABLE SUTURE NEEDLES BEING TRANSFORMABLE BETWEEN HIGHER PROFILE CONFIGURATIONS AND LOWER PROFILE CONFIGURATIONS

A reconfigurable suture needle includes an elongated body having a curved proximal section and a curved distal section. The curved proximal section is hollow and includes an elongated conduit extending from a proximal end to a distal end thereof. The curved distal section includes a needle point at a distal end thereof and a hollow post projecting proximally from a proximal end thereof. A suture thread passes through the elongated conduit of the curved proximal section and has a distal end that passes through the hollow post of the curved distal section for being secured to the proximal end of the curved distal section. The elongated body has a first configuration with a higher profile in which the hollow post of the curved distal section is inserted into the elongated conduit at the distal end of the curved proximal section, and a second configuration with a lower profile in which the hollow post of the curved distal section is uncoupled from the elongated conduit at the distal end of the curved proximal section.

LENGTH OF SELF-RETAINING SUTURE AND METHOD AND DEVICE FOR USING THE SAME

A method and device for anchoring a length of self-retaining suture. The method of anchoring includes providing for an assembly having a length of self-retaining suture and a suture insertion device. The length of suture includes at least a portion of the length having a plurality of retainers thereon extending in a first direction. The insertion device has a length and a recess to receive a portion of the suture length. The method further includes placing a portion of the suture length in the recess and inserting the device into the body of a mammal until the recess reaches a predetermined location thereby forming an insertion pathway. The method further includes retrieving the insertion device from the body by moving the insertion device in a direction substantially opposed to the insertion pathway.

Disclosed embodiments include apparatuses, systems, and methods for guiding a needle to facilitate suturing, such as in surgical anastomosis. In an illustrative embodiment, an apparatus includes a frame configured to counter-rotatably support two generally parallel rollers. A first roller supported by the frame has a flat surface configured to rollably engage a first face of a shaft of a helically-shaped needle. A second roller supported by the frame has a grooved surface defining a helical groove is configured to at least partially receive a second face of the shaft. The second roller further defines a correcting recess bounded by lateral surfaces at a forward end of the groove that tapers to a width of the groove at the forward end. When the leading end is received into the correcting recess, at least one of the lateral surfaces engages and guides the leading end into the forward end of the groove.
