Surgical stapler comprising storable cartridges having different staple sizes
A surgical stapler comprising stored or storable staple cartridges is disclosed. The staple cartridges can have different unfired sizes. In at least one instance, a first stored staple cartridge comprises first staples having a first unfired height and a second stored staple cartridge comprises second staples having a second unfired height which is different than the first unfired height.
Robotically-controlled shaft based rotary drive systems for surgical instruments
A surgical instrument including an end effector that has a selectively reciprocatable implement movably supported therein. The implement is selectively advanceable in a distal direction upon application of a rotary actuation motion thereto and retractable in a proximal direction upon application of a rotary retraction motion thereto. An elongate shaft assembly is coupled to the end effector and is configured to transmit the rotary actuation motion and rotary retraction motion to the reciprocatable implement from a robotic system that is configured to generate the rotary actuation motion and said rotary retraction motion.
Surgical instrument comprising a display
A surgical instrument comprising a touchscreen display is disclosed.
Device, system, and method to secure an article to a tissue
A device for securing an article to a tissue may include a body, transitionable from a deployment state to a securing state, having a first portion, a second portion, and a medial portion therebetween. The first portion and the second portion may each have an end configured to pierce the tissue. The device in the deployment state may have a linearly extended or a U-shaped structure. In the securing state, the first portion may be embedded in the tissue and the medial portion may contact the article. A system for securing the article to the tissue may releasably engage the device while in the deployment state. A method for securing the article may include contacting the article with a tissue surface and releasing the device from the system so that the device, in the securing state, may anchor the article to the tissue.
Cutting member for a surgical instrument
A surgical instrument includes an end effector including a first jaw and a second jaw, a drive beam disposed inside the end effector, a first blade, and a second blade. The drive beam is slidably attached to the first jaw. The drive beam includes a cut-out defining a first surface, a second surface, and a vertical strut. The first blade is attached to the first surface and the vertical strut. The second blade is attached to the first blade and the second surface.
SHAPE MEMORY IMPLANTS AND METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR THE LOADING AND IMPLANTING THEREOF
An orthopedic fixation system includes an implant and an implant insertion device. The implant transitions between a natural shape and an insertion shape and includes a bridge and first and second anchoring members extending from the bridge. The first and second anchoring members each include a segment extending exterior to the bridge to provide an engagement point. The implant insertion device moves between loaded and unloaded positions. The implant insertion device in its loaded position by-passes the bridge and engages the segment of the first anchoring member at its engagement point and the segment of the second anchoring member at its engagement point such that the implant insertion device constrains the implant in its insertion shape. The implant insertion device in its unloaded position releases the implant.
SHAPE MEMORY IMPLANTS AND A METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR THE LOADING AND IMPLANTING THEREOF
An orthopedic fixation system includes an implant and an implant insertion device. The implant transitions between a natural shape and an insertion shape. The implant includes a bridge defining a slot with a first end and a second end and first and second anchoring members extending from the bridge. The implant insertion device moves between a loaded position and an unloaded position. The implant insertion device in its loaded position inserts through the slot of the bridge and engages the bridge at the first and second ends of the slot such that the implant insertion device constrains the implant in its insertion shape. The implant insertion device in its unloaded position releases the implant.
IMPLANT INSERTERS
Inserters for dynamic implants include hooks that engage connecting means of the implants and rams that press against bridges of the implants when the inserters are actuated.
Surgical Stapler with Universal Tip Reload
A surgical stapler includes a tool assembly that has a cartridge assembly, an anvil assembly, and a dissector tip. The dissector tip is moveable between a first configuration aligned with a longitudinal axis of the tool assembly and a second configuration defining an acute angle with the longitudinal axis of the tool assembly.
SURGICAL STAPLING DEVICE
A surgical stapling device includes an elongate member and a loading unit. The loading unit includes a tool portion and a body portion including a first portion having a first length, a second portion having a second length, and a third portion having a third length. The first portion is configured to be releasably secured with the elongate member. The second portion is distal of the first portion and dimensioned to be received in the elongate member. The third portion is distal of the second portion. At least the second or third portion is configured to engage the elongate member in a sealing relation. The second length is greater than the first and third lengths. The third portion of the body portion is dimensioned to be flush with the elongate member when the first and second portions are received in the elongate member.
