Apparatus and method to apply buttresses separately to jaws of end effector of surgical stapler
An apparatus is configured to apply an adjunct material to a stapling surface of a jaw of a surgical stapler. The jaw includes an outer surface disposed opposite the stapling surface. The apparatus includes a housing and an arm. The housing includes a first contact feature that is configured to contact one of the adjunct material or the outer surface of the jaw. The arm is operatively coupled with the housing. The arm includes a second contact feature that is configured to move relative to the first contact feature to contact the other of the adjunct material or the outer surface of the jaw. The first and second contact features are configured to cooperate to apply a compression force in a direction toward the first contact feature to pinch the adjunct material against the stapling surface to mount the adjunct material to the stapling surface.
Compressible non-fibrous adjuncts
Stapling assemblies for use with a surgical stapler are provided. In one exemplary embodiment, the stapling assembly includes a cartridge having a plurality of staples disposed therein and a non-fibrous adjunct formed of at least one fused bioabsorbable polymer and configured to be releasably retained on the cartridge. Adjunct systems for use with a surgical stapler are also provided. Surgical end effectors using the stapling assemblies are also provided. Methods for manufacturing stapling assemblies and using the same are also provided.
SLED DETECTION DEVICE
A surgical stapling device includes a staple reload and a shipping wedge. In embodiments, the shipping wedge is configured to disable the use of a staple reload if the staple reload does not have an actuation sled. In other embodiments, the actuation sled includes a readable identifier that facilitates confirmation of the presence of an actuation sled within a staple reload from a location externally of the staple reload.
STAPLE CARTRIDGE COMPRISING AN IMPLANTABLE LAYER
A staple cartridge comprising an implantable adjunct is disclosed.
DISTAL COMMUNICATION ARRAY TO TUNE FREQUENCY OF RF SYSTEMS
Disclosed is a surgical instrument, comprising a shaft, an articulation joint extending distally from the shaft, and an end effector extending distally from the articulation joint. The end effector comprises a jaw, and a staple cartridge seatable in the jaw. The staple cartridge comprises a cartridge body, staples removably stored in the cartridge body, and a first antenna. The surgical instrument further comprises a remote power source configured to supply power, a second antenna configured to cooperate with the first antenna when the staple cartridge is seated in the jaw to transmit at least one of the power and a data signal to the staple cartridge, and a tuning electronics package located in a cavity in a proximal portion of the end effector. The tuning electronics package is configured to facilitate a locally tunable wireless transmission of the at least one of the power and the data signal.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENT SYSTEM COMPRISING A POWER TRANSFER COIL
A surgical system comprising a stapling instrument and a staple cartridge including a plurality of independent circuits powered by the surgical instrument is disclosed.
MONITORING OF MULTIPLE SENSORS OVER TIME TO DETECT MOVING CHARACTERISTICS OF TISSUE
A surgical instrument includes a wireless transmission system for transmitting at least one of power and a data signal through between an end effector and an instrument housing of the surgical instrument. The surgical instrument includes the sensor monitoring and processing circuit.
STAPLE CARTRIDGE COMPRISING A SENSOR ARRAY
A staple cartridge comprising a sensor array is disclosed. In various instances, the sensor array comprises a conductive trace embedded in a cartridge body of the staple cartridge.
STAPLING INSTRUMENT COMPRISING A PULSED MOTOR-DRIVEN FIRING RACK
A stapling instrument comprising a firing drive including a motor-driven reciprocatable pawl is disclosed.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENT COMPRISING A FIRING DRIVE INCLUDING A SELECTABLE LEVERAGE MECHANISM
A surgical instrument comprising a firing drive including a leverage selection mechanism is disclosed.
