APPARATUS AND METHOD TO APPLY BUTTRESS TO END EFFECTOR OF SURGICAL STAPLER VIA DRIVEN MEMBER
An apparatus is configured to apply an adjunct material to at least one of a first stapling surface or a second stapling surface of a surgical stapler. The apparatus includes a contact structure defining a longitudinal axis and an expansion mechanism. The contact structure includes a first contact member configured to support a first portion of the adjunct material and a second contact member movably coupled with the first contact member that is configured to support a second portion of the adjunct material. The first and second contact members are configured to move away from one another in opposing directions to apply the first portion of the adjunct material to the first stapling surface and the second portion of the adjunct material to the second stapling surface. The expansion mechanism is selectively operable to transition the contact structure from a non-expanded state toward the expanded state.
ARTICULATION MECHANISM FOR SURGICAL STAPLING DEVICE
A surgical device includes an elongate body, a tool assembly, a drive assembly, and an articulation mechanism for moving the tool assembly between a non-articulated position and articulated positions. The articulation mechanism includes an articulation link, a first pivot link that is positioned on a first side of a flexible beam, and a second pivot link positioned on a second side of the flexible beam. The first and second pivot links are configured to control the path of movement of the flexible beam of the drive assembly as the flexible beam is moved between its retracted and advanced positions in non-articulated and articulated positions of the tool assembly to maintain a predetermined distance of movement of the clamp member within the tool assembly constant.
APPARATUS AND METHOD TO APPLY BUTTRESS TO END EFFECTOR OF SURGICAL STAPLER WITH AUTHENTICATION
An apparatus includes a platform, an adjunct material, and an engagement feature. The platform includes an upper support and a lower support. The adjunct material is positioned on the upper support or the lower support. The upper support is configured to move relative to the lower support to apply the adjunct material to a jaw of an end effector incorporated into a surgical stapler. The engagement feature is configured to interact with a predetermined portion of the end effector to permit movement of the upper support relative to the lower support and thereby apply the adjunct material to the jaw of the end effector. The engagement feature is further configured to inhibit movement of the upper support relative to the lower support when the engagement feature is disengaged from the predetermined portion of the end effector.
Apparatus and Method to Apply Buttresses Separately to Jaws of End Effector of Surgical Stapler
An apparatus is configured to apply an adjunct material to a stapling surface of a jaw of a surgical stapler. The jaw includes an outer surface disposed opposite the stapling surface. The apparatus includes a housing and an arm. The housing includes a first contact feature that is configured to contact one of the adjunct material or the outer surface of the jaw. The arm is operatively coupled with the housing. The arm includes a second contact feature that is configured to move relative to the first contact feature to contact the other of the adjunct material or the outer surface of the jaw. The first and second contact features are configured to cooperate to apply a compression force in a direction toward the first contact feature to pinch the adjunct material against the stapling surface to mount the adjunct material to the stapling surface.
Device and method for assisting selection of surgical staple height
A surgical compression gauge instrument comprising a compression gauge jaw member and an anvil jaw member for measuring a reactionary force from tissue captured and compressed to a predetermined gap distance between the two jaw members is disclosed herein. The compression gauge jaw member comprises a force gauge assembly for measuring the tissue reactionary force, and a spacer assembly for holding the two jaw members at a predetermined gap distance, which comprises an adjustable spacer member and a stopper for providing a positive stop to the adjustable spacer member. The spacer assembly is configured to selectively adjust the gap distance between the two jaw members.
Device and method for assisting selection of surgical staple height
A surgical compression gauge instrument comprising a compression gauge jaw member and an anvil jaw member for measuring a reactionary force from tissue captured and compressed to a predetermined gap distance between the two jaw members is disclosed herein. The compression gauge jaw member comprises a force gauge assembly for measuring the tissue reactionary force, and a gap sensor for generating an electrical signal indicative of the gap distance between the two jaw members.
Circular stapling system comprising an incisable tissue support
A surgical instrument comprising an end effector is disclosed. The end effector comprises a staple cartridge including a cartridge body comprising an annular array of staple cavities, staples removably stored in the staple cavities, a firing drive configured to eject the staples from the staple cavities, and a cutting member circumscribed by the staple cavities. The end effector further comprises an anvil including a tissue compression surface, forming surfaces configured to deform the staples and a tissue block for controlling the flow of tissue. The anvil is movable toward the cartridge body to compress tissue between the cartridge body and the tissue block during a closure stroke and the cutting member is configured to incise the tissue and the tissue block during a cutting stroke of the cutting member. The tissue block holds the tissue in position while it is being incised.
Handheld electromechanical surgical system
An adapter assembly includes a switch actuator, an actuation bar, and a latch. The switch actuator is movable between a proximal position, in which the switch actuator actuates a switch, and a distal position. The latch is movable between a first position, in which the latch permits proximal movement of the switch actuator, and a second position, in which the latch prevents proximal movement of the switch actuator. The latch is configured to move from the first position toward the second position in response to the actuation bar moving toward a proximal position.
ADAPTER FOR SECURING LOADING UNITS TO HANDLE ASSEMBLIES OF SURGICAL STAPLING INSTRUMENTS
An adapter for releasably connecting a loading unit to a handle assembly includes a proximal drive shaft, a distal drive shaft, and a shear pin connecting the proximal drive shaft to the distal drive shaft. The proximal drive shaft includes proximal and distal portions. The proximal portion of the proximal drive shaft is configured for releasable connection to the handle assembly. The distal drive shaft includes proximal and distal portions. The distal portion of the distal drive shaft being configured for releasable connection to the loading unit. The shear pin is configured to rotationally fix the proximal drive shaft to the distal drive shaft and is configured to fracture to permit rotation of the proximal drive shaft independent of rotation of the distal drive shaft when a predetermined torque is applied to the distal drive shaft.
SHARED SITUATIONAL AWARENESS OF THE DEVICE ACTUATOR ACTIVITY TO PRIORITIZE CERTAIN ASPECTS OF DISPLAYED INFORMATION
A surgical hub for prioritizing data on a display using situational awareness of a medical instrument may be provided. A first surgical task that uses a medical instrument during a medical procedure may be determined based on a contextual data. A second surgical task that uses the medical instrument may be determined based on the first surgical task and the contextual data. A message may be sent that may instruct a display to prioritize a display data associated with the second surgical task.
