CIRCULAR STAPLING SYSTEM COMPRISING AN INCISABLE TISSUE SUPPORT
A surgical instrument comprising an end effector is disclosed. The end effector comprises a staple cartridge including a cartridge body comprising an annular array of staple cavities, staples removably stored in the staple cavities, a firing drive configured to eject the staples from the staple cavities, and a cutting member circumscribed by the staple cavities. The end effector further comprises an anvil including a tissue compression surface, forming surfaces configured to deform the staples and a tissue block. The anvil is movable toward the cartridge body to compress tissue between the cartridge body and the tissue block and the cutting member is configured to incise the tissue and the tissue block during a cutting stroke of the cutting member.
Staple buttress retention system
A surgical stapling instrument is provided having systems for securing buttress material to the anvil and staple containing cartridge associated with the surgical instrument. The system includes a retainer configured to engage the anvil or the staple containing cartridge and capture the buttress material between the retainer and the anvil or staple containing cartridge. The disclose retainer engages the anvil or staple containing cartridge in snap fit or friction fit fashion. The buttress material includes a circumferential perforation line enabling the center of the buttress material to be stapled to tissue while the remainder of the buttress material remains with the anvil or staple containing cartridge.
Circular stapler including buttress
A surgical stapling device for joining tissue portions includes a handle assembly, and a tubular body portion having a staple cartridge assembly containing a plurality of surgical staples in an annular array. The surgical stapling device includes an anvil assembly having a shaft for removably connecting the anvil assembly to the tubular body portion. The anvil assembly and the tubular body portion are juxtaposed with respect to one another along the shaft and are arranged so as to be approximated with respect to one another. The surgical stapling device includes a buttress material supported by the tubular body portion and disposed between the anvil assembly and the staple cartridge assembly. The surgical stapling device includes a suture material that is adapted for engagement with the tubular body portion and the buttress material to secure the buttress material to the tubular body portion.
Adhesive barbed filament
The present disclosure provides filaments and/or surgical sutures which include an inner core, an outer sheath and a plurality of barbs on a surface thereof. The filaments and/or surgical sutures further include at least one adhesive precursor material which transitions from a non-adherent material to an adhesive material to attach a portion of the filament and/or suture to the surrounding area, such as tissue and/or other portions of the filament.
Buttress attachment methods for circular EEA staplers
An apparatus for joining two hollow organ sections includes a staple cartridge assembly including an annular wall, an anvil assembly, a buttress member, and a fastening member. The annular wall of the staple cartridge assembly defines an inner aperture in an inner surface thereof and an outer aperture in an outer surface thereof. The buttress member is configured to be positioned on a distal surface of the staple cartridge assembly. The buttress member defines a cutout on a peripheral portion thereof. The fastening member has a first end securely affixed to the inner aperture of the annular wall of the staple cartridge assembly and a second end securely affixed to the outer aperture of the annular wall of the staple cartridge assembly to secure the buttress member on the staple cartridge assembly. The cutout of the buttress member is in registration with the outer aperture of the annular wall.
Seal element for anastomosis
A seal element for sealing between tissue lumens includes a first material for allowing tissue ingrowth and a second sealant material.
Surgical buttress retention systems for surgical stapling apparatus
A surgical stapling apparatus includes a jaw assembly including an anvil assembly and a staple cartridge assembly, at least one which includes a surgical buttress retention system, and a surgical buttress releasably secured to a tissue facing surface of the anvil assembly or the staple cartridge assembly via the surgical buttress retention system. The surgical buttress retention system includes proximal guide slots defined in opposed sides of the anvil assembly or the staple cartridge assembly that have a generally U-shaped configuration that are mirror images of each other, a plug coupled to a distal portion of the anvil assembly or the staple cartridge assembly, and a retention member including a central portion extending across a proximal portion of the surgical buttress, second portions positioned within the proximal guide slots, third portions extending across a distal portion of the surgical buttress, and end portions coupled to the plug.
SURGICAL STAPLER WITH SMALL DIAMETER ENDOSCOPIC PORTION
A surgical stapler includes a body portion and a tool assembly. The body portion includes a large diameter portion and a small diameter portion extending distally from the large diameter portion. The large diameter portion supports larger internal components of the device including a lockout assembly adapted to prevent refiring of the stapler to allow the diameter of the small diameter portion of the device to be minimized to facilitate passage of the small diameter portion of the stapler and the tool assembly through an 8 mm trocar.
Universal linear surgical stapling buttress
A surgical buttress carrier assembly includes a buttress carrier and a buttress material. The buttress carrier has a body, a distal end, and lateral sides; the carrier has at least one distally extending post at the distal end, at least one first laterally extending post at a first lateral side, and at least one second laterally extending post at a second lateral side. The buttress carrier has an inner edge adjacent the distal end, and a proximally extending hook extending from the inner edge. The buttress material has an elongate shape, a distal end, and a first lateral side and a second lateral side; the buttress material has at least one opening at the distal end, at least one first side opening adjacent the buttress first lateral side, and at least one second side opening adjacent the buttress second lateral side.
BUTTRESS FOR CIRCULAR EEA STAPLERS
A stapling apparatus includes a cartridge assembly, an anvil assembly, and a buttress material. The cartridge assembly includes pushers configured to eject the respective surgical staples from the cartridge assembly, and an outer wall defining a cavity and having a finger deflectably extending over the cavity. The buttress material includes an annular body and a tab extending proximally from the annular body such that at least a portion of the tab is wrapped around the finger of the outer wall of the staple cartridge assembly. The pushers are movable between a first position in which one of the pushers engages the finger such that the tab is secured against the one of the pushers, and a second position in which the one of the pushers is disengaged from the finger such that a portion of the tab is released from the one of the pushers.
