Layer of material for a surgical end effector
A staple cartridge comprising a tissue thickness compensator is disclosed. The tissue thickness compensator comprises an uncompressed height, a compressed height, an outer encasement, and tubular structures aligned along the longitudinal axis. The tubular structures are configured to collapse when pressure is applied to the tissue thickness compensator by tissue during the firing motion.
FLEXIBLE TROCAR ASSEMBLY FOR SURGICAL CIRCULAR STAPLING DEVICES
An adapter assembly for connecting an end effector to a handle assembly includes a trocar assembly having a flexible trocar member.
TROCAR TIP PROTECTOR
A protection device includes an elongate body having a distal portion defining a flange, and a proximal portion including a plurality of legs extending proximally from the distal portion. When a distal surface of the flange is positioned on a horizontal surface, the plurality of legs is oriented in a vertical orientation.
Introducer and circular stapler
An introducer for being fitted with a circular stapler, is a flexible plastic member in a whole shape of conical with an inner cavity; the introducer has a proximal end and a distal end, outer diameter of the introducer is gradually increased from the distal end to the proximal end and a maximum outer diameter of the proximal end is less than or equal to a maximum outer diameter of a staple cartridge assembly; when pulled by an external force, the plastic member may be unwound spirally and finally forms a strip body capable of being disengaged from the circular stapler. The introducer provided by the present disclosure has the advantages that: as the maximum outer diameter of the introducer is approximately equal to the maximum outer diameter of the staple cartridge assembly, the process of introducing can be achieved without bad influence resulting from increasing the outer diameter of the circular stapler. Moreover, the introducer can be pulled out from the circular stapler in one piece in the form of a strip, so that the operation is convenient and no additional step can be added for the subsequent operation of the circular stapler.
Tissue thickness compensating adjuncts having regions of differential expansion
A stapling assembly includes a cartridge, an anvil, and an adjunct. The cartridge has rows of staples disposed therein for deployment into tissue. The cartridge includes a knife slot extending therethrough between the rows for receiving a knife to cut tissue. The anvil is positioned opposite the cartridge. The adjunct is releasably retained on the cartridge or the anvil. The adjunct can be delivered to tissue by deployment of the staples from the cartridge. The adjunct can have a first shape, and a first adjunct portion can exhibit first expansion behavior in response to receipt of a volume of fluid, and a second adjunct portion can exhibit second expansion behavior in response to receipt of the volume of fluid such that the adjunct adopts a second shape. The difference between the first and second expansion behavior applies different pressures to different portions of tissue having the adjunct stapled thereto.
ADAPTER, EXTENSION, AND CONNECTOR ASSEMBLIES FOR SURGICAL DEVICES
An assembly including an adapter assembly and an extension assembly for connecting an end effector to an electrosurgical instrument is provided. The adapter assembly includes first and second pusher assemblies configured for converting rotational motion into linear motion and a drive member for transferring rotational motion. The extension assembly includes at least one flexible band assembly for transferring the linear motion from the adapter assembly and a trocar assembly configured for converting rotational motion into linear motion. Also provided is a connection assembly for connecting a first tubular member to a second tubular member.
ARTICULATABLE SURGICAL INSTRUMENT SYSTEM
An instrument assembly can comprise a shaft comprising a first drive portion of a drive system, an end effector comprising a second drive portion of the drive system, and an articulation joint rotatably connecting the end effector to the shaft. The end effector is rotatable between a first position and a second position about the articulation joint, wherein the first drive portion is not operably engaged with the second drive portion when the end effector is in the first position, and operably engaged with the second drive portion when the end effector is in the second position. The end effector can comprise a first jaw and a second jaw, wherein the first jaw is movable relative to the second jaw between an open position and a closed position within a closure plane, and wherein the end effector is rotatable within an articulation plane which is co-planar with the closure plane.
DETERMINATION OF PREMATURE STAPLE EJECTION
A surgical device includes a power source, a motor coupled to the power source, and a transmission assembly movable by the motor. The device also includes a reload coupled to the transmission assembly. The reload includes a plurality of staples ejectable by the transmission assembly. The device further includes a distance sensor configured to monitor operation of the transmission assembly and output distance data. The device additionally includes a controller configured to operate the motor to move the transmission assembly proximally from a distal position until a hard stop is reached, and determine whether the plurality of staples have been previously ejected based on the distance data.
TISSUE PRESSING TOOL
A tissue pressing tool includes: a shaft that extends in one direction; a tissue pressing part that is a rod-like or belt-like member having a rigidity enough to hold a shape thereof even when pressed against a tissue; and a passive bending part that is arranged between the tissue pressing part and the shaft so that the tissue pressing part is capable of bending in all direction around an axis line of the shaft so as to keep an inverted state of the tissue by the tissue pressing part pressing the tissue linearly
ADAPTER ASSEMBLY INCLUDING A REMOVABLE TROCAR ASSEMBLY
An adapter assembly for connecting a surgical loading unit to a handle assembly is provided. The adapter assembly includes a sleeve, a trocar assembly releasably securable within the sleeve, and a locking mechanism configured to releasably secure the trocar assembly within the sleeve.
