MEDICAL DEVICES
In at least one embodiment, a medical device can comprise an elongate outer sheath that extends along a sheath longitudinal axis and defines a central lumen extending therethrough, the elongate outer sheath can comprise a proximal sheath portion and a distal sheath portion. A first guidewire can comprise a first guidewire end and a second guidewire end, the first guidewire can extend from the first and second guidewire ends through the central lumen and can form a distal looped portion. An occlusion device can be disposed at a distal end of an elongate flexible shaft. The elongate flexible shaft can extend from the proximal sheath portion through the central lumen. The occlusion device can include a guide lumen through which the first guide wire passes.
INTRAGASTRIC VOLUME-OCCUPYING DEVICE AND METHOD FOR FABRICATING SAME
Intragastric volume-occupying devices and methods for treating obesity are provided. The devices, which are inflated by carbon dioxide, include an aluminum or silicon oxide barrier layer providing carbon dioxide retention and an alkylene vinyl alcohol polymer layer providing structural integrity in vivo.
Device for intermittently obstructing a gastric opening
The present invention relates to a device for intermittently obstructing a bodily opening, such as a gastric opening, and includes a proximal member connected to a distal member by a tether. The proximal member includes an apron member surrounding a first occluding member, which is formable from an elongated and narrower configuration to a contracted or expanded but wider configuration. When employed in the stomach, the device of the present invention is arranged transluminally, with the distal member disposed in the duodenum and the proximal member disposed against the pyloric valve, intermittently occluding the pyloric valve and preventing or delaying the flow of gastric contents through the pyloric valve. In certain embodiments, a reservoir may be included for releasing a substance of interest, for example for releasing insulin from a reservoir disposed in the distal member. Sensors, actuators, and data transmission devices may also be included.
Patulous Eustachian tube stent
A system effectively narrows a patulous Eustachian tube (ET) of a patient with a guide catheter, instrument, and insert. The guide catheter includes a shaft, a lumen and a distal end configured to provide access the ET when the guide catheter is inserted into a head of the patient. The instrument comprises a shaft. The insert comprises a body configured to radially expand and retract between a non-expanded state and an expanded state. The insert is sized and shaped to be received within the first lumen when in the non-expanded state and is operable to expand to the expanded state to substantially reduce an effective diameter of the ET.
METHODS AND DEVICES FOR FALLOPIAN TUBE DIAGNOSTICS
Methods and devices for performing minimally invasive procedures useful for Fallopian tube diagnostics are disclosed. In at least one embodiment, the proximal os of the Fallopian tube is accessed via an intrauterine approach; an introducer catheter is advanced to cannulate and form a fluid tight seal with the proximal os of the Fallopian tube; a second catheter inside the introducer catheter is provided to track the length of the Fallopian tube and out into the abdominal cavity; a balloon at the end of the second catheter is inflated and the second catheter is retracted until the balloon seals the distal os of the Fallopian tube; irrigation is performed substantially over the length of the Fallopian tube; and the irrigation fluid is recovered for cytology or cell analysis.
Absorbable polymer with drug elution for a magnet sphincter assist device
An apparatus is configured to be implanted within a biological structure. The apparatus includes a plurality of magnetic elements, an absorbable component, and a non-absorbable component. The plurality of magnetic elements are configured to transition the biological structure between an occluded state and an opened state. The plurality of magnetic elements are biased to encourage the biological structure toward the occluded state. The absorbable component includes a therapeutic substance. The absorbable component is configured to temporarily couple the plurality of magnetic elements with the biological structure when the apparatus is initially implanted within the biological structure.
Intra-Vaginal Devices and Methods for Treating Fecal Incontinence
Devices and methods for intra-vaginal bowel control.
INTRA UTERINE DEVICE
The present invention discloses an Intra Uterine Ball (IUB) device useful for a gynecological procedure or treatment. The aforesaid device comprises a hollow sleeve for at least partial insertion into the uterine cavity; and, an elongate conformable member with at least a portion comprised of shape memory alloy. The elongate member is adapted to be pushed out from said sleeve within said uterine cavity. It is the core of the invention that the elongate member is adapted to conform into a predetermined three dimensional ball-like configuration within said uterine cavity following its emergence from said sleeve, such that expulsion from said uterine cavity, malposition in said uterine cavity, and perforation of the uterine walls is prevented.
METHODS AND DEVICES FOR TREATING PANCREATITIS
Disclosed herein are methods and devices for treating pancreatitis. In the methods described herein, the distal portion of a catheter is routed into the pancreatic duct. The catheter delivers to the pancreatic duct an effective amount of a composition at an effective infusion pressure, wherein the amount and infusion pressure of the composition are effective to decrease the secretion of digestive enzymes from one or more exocrine tissues of the pancreas. The reduction of digestive enzymes may reduce damage to the islet cells typically seen in chronic pancreatitis. Backflow of the composition out of the pancreatic duct is limited, for example, by an occluding system, and aspiration system, or both.
Object inserter including a penetration-resisting bearing surface and method
A surgical tool for inserting a spile or plug into the punctal opening of a meatus such as a lacrimo-nasal canaliculus. The tool includes a distal end having a plug-carrying structure which includes distally extending rod for engaging an axial bore in the plug, and an abutment having a radial prominence supporting a penetration-resisting bearing surface which prevents over-insertion of the plug by contacting tissue surrounding the punctal opening. The abutment can be shaped and dimensioned to provide effective and comfortable penetration resistance while affording ample visibility to the surgeon user. The rod can be axially withdrawn through a rod tracking tube having a precisely dimensioned central lumen restricting off-axis movement of the rod. The abutment can be fixed to the rod or detached from it.
