Safety Input System for Monitoring a Sensor in an Industrial Automation System
A safety input system for monitoring a sensor can include a voltage sensing circuit configured to produce a first detection output upon sensing a signal exceeding a voltage threshold, and a current sensing circuit configured to produce a second detection output upon sensing the signal exceeding a current threshold and/or voltage threshold. The signal can come from a sensor in an industrial automation system, such as a light curtain. The first detection output can be provided to a first processor, and the second detection output can be provided to a second processor, so that two processors can independently monitor the sensor. The signal can also be monitored by separate input systems. Periodically, for additional protection, the first processor can inject a first test signal into the input system for the second processor to detect, and the second processor can inject a second test signal into the input system for the first processor to detect.
METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR COMMUNICATING ALERT NOTIFICATIONS USING DISCRETE INPUT CHANNELS
Methods and apparatus for communicating alert notifications using discrete input channels are described. An apparatus includes a field device to control a process of a process plant. The field device has a digital valve controller including a process parameter monitor to monitor a process parameter of the field device and an alarm determiner to detect an error condition associated with the process parameter. The alarm determiner generates an alarm notification associated with the error condition of the process parameter. The digital valve controller includes an alarm status assignor to assign a status notification for equipment associated with the process parameter detected by the alarm determiner to be in the error condition and a discrete output channel. The apparatus includes a host device having a discrete input channel directly coupled to the discrete output channel to receive the alarm notification and the status notification from the digital valve controller. The host device is to be communicatively coupled to a control room of a process plant.
DEVICE ASSET MANAGEMENT APPARATUS, DEVICE ASSET MANAGEMENT METHOD, AND NON-TRANSITORY COMPUTER READABLE STORAGE MEDIUM
A device asset management apparatus includes an operating asset state storage which stores an operating asset state representing an asset state of a field device as an operating state, an inventory asset state storage which stores an inventory asset state representing the asset state as an inventory state, an asset state changer configured to change at least one of the operating asset state and the inventory asset state based on at least one of information on a maintenance operation performed to the field device and information on warehousing and releasing of the field device, and an asset state display configured to display the operating asset state and the inventory asset state.
INTEGRATION OF ONLINE AND OFFLINE CONTROL VALVE DATA
An integrated diagnostics system utilizes online and offline diagnostics techniques to evaluate control valves found in process plant environments. The integrated diagnostics system improves on existing diagnostic systems, which typically rely exclusively on online diagnostics or offline diagnostics.
AUTOMATED RETROFIT INSTALLATION TOOL FOR REPLACEMENT OF ONE OR MORE PRE-EXISTING DEDICATED INPUT/OUTPUT (I/O) MODULES AND TERMINAL BOARDS WITH ONE OR MORE UNIVERSAL I/O MODULES
Described are systems, methods and computer-program product for replacing a prior input/output (I/O) module and terminal board with a universal I/O device by providing software based instructions and configuration settings for the installer. The method includes provisions for new wiring changes or harnesses as well as preset adapters, converting prior device configuration settings from an I/O module, pack, and/or terminal board to new configuration settings for a programmable I/O device, generating a wiring chart for any wiring changes based on the settings, and displaying the information for the installer and/or programmer's use. This allows a universal I/O device capable of each channel having different operating modes to replace one or more of a mixture of several types of dedicated I/O modules. The installation documentation and configurations are automatically generated, reducing the chance of errors due to misinterpretation of multiple product documents while allowing the automatic transfer of product settings.
Handheld field maintenance tool with integration to external software application
An intrinsically-safe handheld field maintenance tool is provided. The tool includes a process communication module configured to communicate with a field device in accordance with a process industry communication protocol. A controller is coupled to the process communication module and is configured to provide at least one function related to maintenance of the field device. Program instructions embodied on a computer readable medium coupled to the controller, the program instructions causing the controller, when executed by the controller, to provide operator rounds functionality, CMMS/EAM functionality and/or ERP functionality.
Process calibrator, method for controlling a process calibrator and user interface for a process calibrator
A process calibrator is formed with a user interface, which guides to choose the right connection arrangements of the process calibrator according to the function of the process calibrator. The user interface shows in the display of the process calibrator the connection arrangements of the process calibrator and indicates the place of the connection arrangement assigned to the selected function visually compared to other connection arrangements. The connection arrangements shown by the user interface in the display are placed similarly to the physical connection arrangements of the process calibrator. As the user interface indicates the connection arrangement that is assigned to the selected function of the process calibrator, it is easy for the user to make the right connection.
Tamper protection device for protecting a field device against tampering
The disclosure relates to a tamper protection device for protecting a field device against tampering. The tamper protection device includes a carrier and at least one electronic memory, wherein the at least one electronic memory is disposed in at least one partial area on the carrier, and the at least one electronic memory stores at least one predefinable security information item. The at least one electronic memory is configured to modify the predefinable security information item in the event of at least partial damage to the tamper protection device. The disclosure further relates to a method for producing a field device having a tamper protection device, to a field device comprising a tamper protection device, to a tamper protection system, and to the use of a tamper protection device.
