Adjustable containment shield
An adjustable containment shield is operable to mount on an output housing of a surgical instrument. The shield includes a substantially transparent body including a distal face, a proximal face opposite the distal face, a generally consistent thickness defined between the distal face and the proximal face such that the body is pliable and resilient, a mounting hole defined in the body to engage the output housing, and a plurality of folds to allow the shield to move from a retracted position to an expanded position. When mounted on the output housing, the distal face is at an acute angle with respect to a longitudinal axis through the mounting hole and face is also facing toward a patient engagement end of the surgical instrument. The proximal face is at an obtuse angle with respect to the longitudinal axis and facing toward a housing side of the surgical instrument.
SURGICAL BLADE ASSEMBLY INCLUDING A STATIC GUIDE BAR AND AN OSCILLATING BLADE
A blade assembly for use with a surgical saw. The blade assembly may comprise a static guide bar, a blade and a drive member, that when actuated, oscillates the blade. The blade may further comprise teeth that extend distally from the static guide bar, the teeth adapted to form a kerf in tissue against which the teeth are pressed. The static guide bar may be dimensioned to fit into the kerf formed in the tissue cut by the teeth. The static guide bar may comprise a thickness dependent on a length of the static guide bar. The blade assembly may be configured such that blade may be the only oscillating component of the blade assembly to provide a generally constant mass moment of inertia irrespective of the mass and/or length of the static guide bar.
SURGICAL BLADE CARTRIDGE WITH A GUIDE BAR HAVING FEATURES TO CONTROL THE DEPTH OF THE CUT FORMED WITH THE CARTRIDGE
A blade cartridge for use with a surgical saw includes a bar and a rack. The bar includes a first holding feature for removably holding the bar static to the saw. The rack includes a base moveably disposed in the bar and has cutting teeth defining extending beyond the bar. A drive link extends from the base, providing a second holding feature for releasably engaging a reciprocating drive integral with the saw. One of the base and the bar includes a guide slot. The other of the base and the bar includes a static member extending into the guide slot. The guide slot and the static member allow the rack to reciprocally move from proximal to distal to proximal along a longitudinal axis of the bar. The bar includes two plates and a spacer between the plates. The base is located between the plates.
Ultrasonic blade with static casing
An ultrasonic surgical device capable of cutting biological tissues such as bone and cartilage. The ultrasonic surgical device includes a static casing, which sheaths an ultrasonic horn, and a lubrication film, which separates the ultrasonic horn and the static casing. The static casing, which may also incorporate a plurality of fluid channels to allow passage of fluids along its length and eventual distribution of such fluids at the cutting end and biological tissue interface, inhibits the transfer of heat generated along the ultrasonic horn. The cutting end and the static casing are separated by a flexible joint, which serves to inhibit the transfer of vibrational energy, and consequently heat, from the cutting end to the static casing. As such, the static casing remains stable and can be used both to manipulate the surgical device with greater haptic control and facilitate effective penetration of larger cross-sections of biological tissue.
Dual speed medical procedure power tool
A dual speed medical procedure power tool includes first and second gear sets. The first and second gear sets may be engaged and disengaged, selectively, to provide a first speed for a high-speed, low-torque drilling function and a second speed for a low-speed, high-torque reaming function.
Surgical reciprocating blade assembly including a static guide bar, teeth that project from a side of the guide bar and a drive rod that reciprocates the teeth
A reciprocating blade assembly for use with a surgical saw comprises a reciprocating member, the reciprocating member including a proximal end feature for engaging a drive member of the of the saw that, when actuated, reciprocates the reciprocating member. The reciprocating blade assembly further comprises teeth that extend outwardly from a side of the reciprocating member, the teeth adapted to form a kerf in tissue against which the teeth are pressed. The reciprocating member is contained in a guide bar assembly that includes features for engaging with a complementary fastening assembly that holds the guide bar assembly static to the saw and an opening located in a side of the guide bar assembly wherein the reciprocating member is mounted in the guide bar assembly so the teeth extend out of the side opening, wherein said guide bar assembly is dimensioned to fit into the kerf formed in the tissue cut by the teeth.
QUICK CONNECT SAW ATTACHMENT FOR SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS
A blade-mounting apparatus for a surgical tool includes an attachment head including a mounting channel with a plurality of opposing sides and a base. Opposing slots are formed in each of the opposing sides and aligned across the mounting channel forming a blade-receiving opening extending therebetween and aligned with a receiving axis. A locking detent is disposed within the mounting channel and has an engagement surface including a plurality of protrusions with a first protrusion proximal to the receiving opening and a second protrusion distal to the receiving opening. The second protrusion is elongated transverse to the receiving axis and tapered from the engagement surface to a distal extent.
Ultrasonic cutting blade with cooling liquid conduction
An ultrasonic surgical tool has probe body with an operative surface or edge contactable with organic tissues for performing a surgical operation on the tissues. A shank of the probe body is provided with a connector for operatively attaching the tool to a source of ultrasonic mechanical vibrational energy. The shank and a portion of the probe body are formed with a channel for fluid delivery to the probe body. At least a portion of the probe body located between the channel and the operative surface or edge has a microporous or sintered structure enabling fluid penetration to the operative surface or edge from the channel.
Coupling device between the drive shaft of a surgical instrument and a tool
Coupling device between a drive shaft of a surgical instrument and a tool, characterized in that the coupling device includes a fluid feed element fed from outside the coupling device and communicating with a channel arranged in the tool and which emerges at a location along the length of the tool.
