Electric motor driven tool for orthopedic impacting
RE049666 · 2023-09-26 · ·

An orthopedic impacting tool comprises a motor, an energy storage chamber, a striker, and an anvil. The motor stores energy in the energy storage chamber and then releases it, causing the striker to apply a controlled force on an adapter to create a precise impact for use in a surgical setting. The tool may further comprise a combination anvil and adapter. The tool further allows forward or backward impacting for expanding the size or volume of the opening or for facilitating removal of a broach, implant, or other surgical implement from the opening. An energy adjustment control of the tool allows a surgeon to increase or decrease the impact energy. A light source and hand grips improve ease of operation of the tool.

An identification system for automatically identifying a medical tool includes at least one tool holder or packaging having a readable data carrier and designed to hold the medical tool. The system also includes an identification device to identify the medical tool. The tool holder or packaging is designed such that removal of the medical tool automatically closes a circuit provided on the tool holder or packaging and activates an antenna. The identification device is also designed to detect activation of the antenna and to read the data carrier of the tool holder or packaging.

DEVICES AND METHODS FOR INTRABODY SURGERY
20220022912 · 2022-01-27 ·

A device for intrabody surgery comprises a cutting arrangement rotatable by a hollow driveshaft, which is formed by a hollow front cutting region and a rear region. The front region includes multiple longitudinal drilling sections interconnected by transversely oriented cutting blade sections. The drilling sections are positioned at an angle to each other defining in combination with the cutting blades a conically shaped grid formation having a hollow internal cavity. The grid formation defines a plurality of ports between the drilling sections and the blades. A low-pressure zone is formed within the hollow internal cavity, wherein cut occlusion materials are aspired by the low-pressure zone through the plurality of ports into the hollow internal cavity for further evacuation from the cutting arrangement.

ULTRASOUND DEVICE AND ULTRASOUND DEVICE SYSTEM USED FOR ANCHOR FIXATION AND ANCHOR FIXATION METHOD USING ULTRASOUND DEVICE

A medical ultrasound device includes: an ultrasound generator and an elongated probe. A cross-sectional surface of the probe at a distal end to which ultrasound oscillation is propagated is perpendicular to a longitudinal direction of the probe, and the cross-sectional surface has a shape identical to a shape of a cross-sectional surface of an anchor to form, in a bone, a bottomed hole for placing the anchor and having a shape to prevent rotation of the anchor in the bottomed hole. An area of the cross-sectional surface of the probe at the distal end is larger than an area of a cross-sectional surface of the probe at a proximal end. The distal end includes a treatment portion that expands outward relative to the proximal end and that is formed in a first direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and in a second direction different from the first direction.

Systems and methods of providing assistance to a surgeon for minimizing errors during a surgical procedure
11229496 · 2022-01-25 · ·

Systems and methods for providing assistance to a surgeon for minimizing errors during a surgical procedure are disclosed. A method includes creating a Three-Dimensional (3D) model of a patient using at least one image of an affected area of the patient. Surgical paths are retrieved for performing a surgical procedure. A surgical path, selected by a surgeon, may be displayed as overlaid on the 3D model. A haptic barrier and a hard barrier may be defined for different types of tissues and feedbacks may be associated with the haptic barrier and the hard barrier. Position of a surgical tool of a robotic surgical system may be monitored in real-time during a surgical procedure. Movement of the surgical tool into one of the haptic barrier and the hard barrier may be detected and a suitable feedback may be provided, based on the movement.

ELECTRIC MOTOR DRIVEN TOOL FOR ORTHOPEDIC IMPACTING
20220015774 · 2022-01-20 ·

An orthopedic impacting tool comprises a motor, a linear motion converter, an air chamber, a compression piston, an impacting element, an anvil element, and a broach adapter. The compression piston may cause the impacting element to apply controlled force on a broach adapter to create a precise opening for subsequently disposing a prosthesis in a patient. The tool allows forward or backward impacting for expanding the size or volume of the opening or for facilitating removal of the broach and tool from the opening. A force adjustment control of the tool allows a user to increase or decrease the impact force. A light source and hand grips improve ease of operation of the tool.

Surgical manipulator and method for controlling pose of an instrument based on virtual rigid body modelling

A surgical manipulator is disclosed which includes a surgical instrument, an arm comprising a plurality of links and being configured to support and move the surgical instrument, and at least one controller. The at least one controller is configured to model the surgical instrument as a virtual rigid body. Forces and torques are applied externally to the surgical instrument. The at least one controller determines a commanded pose of the surgical instrument based on evaluation of the forces and torques and controls movement of the arm to place the surgical instrument according to the commanded pose.

Surgical instrument comprising a tissue grasping system

A surgical stapler for stapling the tissue of a patient is disclosed. The surgical stapler comprises a handle, a shaft extending from the handle, and an end effector. The end effector comprises a tissue compression surface, a plurality of staples, and an anvil comprising staple forming pockets, wherein the anvil is movable toward the tissue compression surface during a closing stroke to clamp the patient tissue against and tissue compression surface. The surgical stapler further comprises an anvil closing system configured to move the anvil through the closing stroke, a staple firing system configured to deploy the staples during a staple firing stroke, and means for clamping and holding the patient tissue during the staple firing stroke and moving the end effector relative to the patient tissue after the staple firing stroke.
