Minimally invasive hip arthroplasty techniques and apparatus
11633196 · 2023-04-25 · ·

A minimally invasive hip arthroplasty technique involves intramedullary insertion of an elongate femoral broach into a femur. The broach has a superior lateromedial transverse bore. A reaming rod is then located through the transverse bore and the neck of the femur. A cutting head is coupled to a distal end of the reaming rod via an incision. An orthogonal drive arm of an arthroplasty jig may also be inserted behind the cutting head to press the cutting head to ream the acetabulum while the reaming rod rotates the cutting head.

Tracked surgical tool with flexible lumen and exposure control

A tool for surgically removing tissue of a patient includes a body, a flexible rotating shaft that drives a distal cutting tool and is drivingly coupled to a motor supported by bearings in a flexible tubular sheath to allow the shaft to rotate and be shifted longitudinally. Steering cables in the sheath control the flexion of the sheath. A processor controls the operation to ensure that the cutting tool operates within a predetermined resection area, controlling a combination of motor speed, sheath flexion, and shaft retraction to assist surgery in the resection area.

OFFSET REAMER DRIVER

A system, method and/or reamer driver device provides a fully closed tube which prevents the invasion of debris and minimizes abrasion of soft tissue during use. The reamer device includes a minimum number of component assemblies, so as to permit easy replacement and minimize wear.

Instrument For Transmitting Torque

A surgical instrument for transmitting torque is described. The surgical instrument comprises a torque receiving portion at a proximal end of the surgical instrument, a torque delivering portion at a distal end of the surgical instrument, and a flexible shaft extending between the torque receiving portion and the torque delivering portion. The flexible shaft comprises torque transmitting elements coupled in series along a longitudinal direction of the shaft such that one of the torque transmitting elements is rotationally fixed and tiltable relative to an adjacent one of the torque transmitting elements, wherein each of the torque transmitting elements comprises a through-hole. The surgical instrument also comprises an elongate alignment member extending through the through-holes of the torque transmitting elements, wherein the alignment member is made from a spring-elastic material. The present disclosure further provides a system comprising the surgical instrument and a method of using the surgical instrument.

Spheroidal Surgical Rasp

A rasp for use with a powered surgical handpiece comprises opposed proximal and distal ends and a rasp region. The proximal end includes a mount portion. The mount portion defines a pivot axis. The rasp region extends between the mount portion and the distal end and includes the distal end. The rasp region has opposed first and second surfaces connecting at a common edge. The first surface is convex and the second surface is concave. The rasp region has a plurality of cutting projections disposed on at least one of the first surface and the second surface. The rasp region has a center axis substantially parallel to the pivot axis.

Orthopedic Articulating Instrument

The present disclosure relates to an orthopedic instrument. The orthopedic instrument includes an elongated hollow shaft having a proximal end and a distal end. The orthopedic instrument also includes a rod having a proximal end and a distal end. The rod is positioned at least partially within a lumen of the elongated hollow shaft. The orthopedic instrument also includes a cutting head having a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the proximal end of the cutting head is coupled to the distal end of the rod. The cutting head is rotatably coupled to the distal end of the elongated hollow shaft between the proximal end of the cutting head and the distal end of the cutting head. A movement of the rod within the lumen of the elongated hollow shaft in a distal direction causes cutting head to transition from a straight configuration to an angled configuration.

POWERED SURGICAL TOOL WITH TRANSMISSION

The present invention relates to a powered surgical tool that selectively rotates a tool head (effector) to effect tissue modification during a surgical procedure, and allows for use also as a fastener driver by a simple change of end effectors and shifting a drive selector.

Surgical instrument with articulating region

A surgical instrument including an articulating region. An outer tube and an inner tube are axially fixed to one another distal to the articulating region and axially movable relative to one another proximal to the articulating region. Relative movement of the inner and outer tubes provides for articulation of the articulating tube assembly to a curved configuration. A working tool may be removably directed through a central cannula defined by the inner tube. The working tool may include a shaft having a flexible region configured to be arranged within the articulating region. The shaft may rotate within the inner tube with the articulating tube assembly in the curved configuration. The working tool may include a housing hub configured to be coupled with a handle to removably position the flexible region within the articulating region. Multiple working tools may be interchangeably directed through the central cannula.
