Irrigation sleeves for use with surgical systems

An irrigation sleeve, for use with a surgical system that comprises an irrigation source and a surgical tool having a tube to support a cutting accessory having a head, in turn comprises a body extending between proximal and distal ends. A first lumen formed in the body receives the tube. The head is adjacent the distal end. A second lumen formed in the body is spaced from the first lumen and comprises proximal and distal regions thereof. The proximal region of the second lumen extends from an inlet for fluid communication with the source, to a transition. The distal region of the second lumen is spaced out of fluid communication with the first lumen and extends from the transition to an outlet to direct fluid adjacent to the head.

Expandable reamers

An expandable reamer includes, inter alia, an outer tube, an inner shaft, a movable blade, and an actuator assembly. The expandable reamers can be used to remove diseased bone.

Powered Surgical Drill Having Rotating Field Bit Identification

A surgical handpiece system for use with a drill bit having an identification feature that includes magnetic material. A handpiece transfers torque to the drill bit to rotate the drill bit. A measurement module that includes a housing is coupled to the handpiece. A measurement cannula made of a non-magnetic material surrounds the drill bit during operation. The measurement cannula extends forward or rearward relative to the housing and has a distal end adapted for placement against a workpiece. A transducer assembly generates a transducer signal based on a position of the measurement cannula relative to the housing. A sensor generates an identification signal responsive to a magnetic field or magnetoresistance of the identification feature of the drill bit through the measurement cannula during operation. A controller receives the identification signal and identifies the coupled drill bit corresponding to the received identification signal.

An orthopaedic surgical instrument, in particular a milling cutter, including: an inner rod extended along an own longitudinal axis and provided with an attachment end to a motorized member; a tubular envelope wrapping the inner rod; an operating head at a rod end which is opposite said attachment end; a gimbal joint between the rod end and a tool of said operating head such that said tool is extended along an angled axis with respect to the longitudinal axis. The milling cutter according to the invention improves the precision of execution of the positions of the holes in any surgical operation with anatomy which is difficult to get access to, such as in knee, pelvis and ankle.

BONE AND TISSUE RESECTION DEVICES AND METHODS

Embodiments of bone and tissue resection devices are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a device can include a stationary assembly having a housing, an elongated sleeve extending distally from the housing, and a cutting region disposed distal to the sleeve. The device can further include a drive assembly having a blade shaft extending through the elongated sleeve, the blade shaft having a distal tip with a cutting surface configured to extend into the cutting region when the drive assembly advances distally relative to the stationary assembly. The drive assembly can further include an oscillator coupled to the blade shaft and configured to engage with a source of continuous rotational motion to convert the continuous rotational motion into oscillating motion of the drive shaft. Further, the drive assembly can be configured to slidably couple to the stationary assembly to permit selective translation of the drive assembly relative to the stationary assembly.
