AUTOGRAFTING TOOL FOR DEEP REACH APPLICATIONS
A rotary osteotome for deep reach applications. The body of the osteotome has a tapered end that supports helically spiraling flutes. Substantially margin-less (without margin) working edges are interleaved between the flutes to provide compaction action when rotated in a non cutting direction. The body also has an elongated cylindrical stopper section. An irrigation conduit passes through the center of the stopper section and emerges at a plurality of outlet orifices that function as independent nozzles for irrigating fluid. The outlet orifices are generally elliptical in shape and spaced around the body to maintain balance. The irrigation conduit has a main trunk that opens to a flow splitter, which in turn divides the flow of irrigating fluid into substantially equal branches. Each branch is angled at an acute trajectory relative to the longitudinal axis, in the direction of said apical end, between about 10° and 45°.
DEVICES AND METHODS FOR INTRABODY SURGERY
A catheter assembly which is combined with a radiofrequency (RF) electrosurgical instrument includes a catheter body and a vacuum source disposed at the distal end of the catheter. Multiple active electrodes are provided for transmitting electrical signals and to produce electrosurgical effects adjacent to the active electrodes for tissue cutting. At least one passive electrode is disposed at the front end of the body in closely spaced relationship relative to the active electrodes. The active electrodes and the passive electrode optimally cover a predetermined ablation area. The electrodes are spaced from inner walls of the hollow interior, and openings are provided to aspirate debris of ablation into and through the hollow interior of the body by the low-pressure zone.
Irrigation Sleeves For Use With Surgical Systems
An irrigation sleeve, for use with a surgical system that comprises an irrigation source and a surgical tool having a tube to support a cutting accessory having a head, in turn comprises a body extending between proximal and distal ends. A first lumen formed in the body receives the tube. The head is adjacent the distal end. A second lumen formed in the body is spaced from the first lumen and comprises proximal and distal regions thereof. The proximal region of the second lumen extends from an inlet for fluid communication with the source, to a transition. The distal region of the second lumen is spaced out of fluid communication with the first lumen and extends from the transition to an outlet to direct fluid adjacent to the head.
Apparatus And Method For Securing An Elongate Member To A Medical Instrument
An apparatus and method of securing an elongate member to a medical instrument. The apparatus comprising an attachment device including a base, a liner, and an adhesive. The base comprising an aperture configured to receive the elongate member, wherein the liner may be positioned adjacent the aperture and axially aligned with the elongate member when the attachment device is coupled to the medical instrument. The attachment device may comprise a pair of apertures and the liner may be positioned adjacent the adhesive and at least partially between the pair of apertures. The method of securing the elongate member to the medical instrument comprises threading the elongate member through the aperture of the attachment device and adhering the attachment device to the medical instrument. The method of manufacturing the attachment device may comprise cutting the aperture in the base, the adhesive, and liner.
ULTRASONIC BONE SCALPEL BIT AND ROBOT-ASSISTED ULTRASONIC BONE POWER SYSTEM USING SAME
The present disclosure relates to an ultrasonic bone scalpel bit and a robot-assisted ultrasonic bone power system using the ultrasonic bone scalpel bit. The ultrasonic bone scalpel bit includes a scalpel bit end portion located at a distal end of the scalpel bit, the scalpel bit end portion being formed to have a flat shape and provided with a cutting portion, wherein the cutting portion includes a distal end portion, a first side portion and a second side portion, the first side portion and the second side portion being symmetrically arranged relative to a longitudinal axis of the scalpel bit end portion in a width direction of the scalpel bit end portion; the cutting portion further includes a plurality of protrusions formed near the distal end portion, the plurality of protrusions projecting outward from the first side portion and the second side portion symmetrically relative to the longitudinal axis in the width direction of the scalpel bit end portion; and a recess which is recessed toward a proximal end of the scalpel bit end portion is formed on the distal end portion.
Powered Instrument
Disclosed is a system to power a tool. The tool may be powered in a selected manner that may have irrigation and/or coolant provided therewith. The irrigation and cooling fluid may be provided at substantially at a working end and/or distal end of the instrument assembly.
APPARATUS AND METHODS WITH SURGICAL GUIDES HAVING ROUTED LIQUID COOLANT IRRIGATION
Provided herein are surgical guides with internal channels for irrigation cooling. In one embodiment, an apparatus for guiding a surgical instrument includes a proximal side and a distal side. A first channel is configured to guide a material removal device, where the first channel extends from the proximal side of the apparatus to the distal side of the apparatus. A second channel configured to direct irrigation fluid, where the second channel extends from the proximal side of the of the apparatus to the distal side of the apparatus. The first channel is separate from the second channel. A method of performing a surgical procedure and a method of manufacturing a surgical guide are also disclosed. In certain embodiments, the surgical guides may be manufactured via additive manufacturing processes, including for example, three-dimensional printing processes.
Tool bit for ultrasonic osteotome and ultrasonic osteotome having the same
A tool bit for an ultrasonic osteotome includes a bit body, an arbor fixed to the bit body, and a flat end portion fixed to the arbor. A toothed edge extends linearly along a length direction of an end portion of the tool bit, and recesses are distributed evenly on the toothed edge to form teeth spaced apart from each other. The toothed edge extends linearly along a length direction, and the cutting edges of teeth are distributed linearly, e.g., instead of having a sharp structure, thus will not scrape and hurt other tissues during cutting. Since the thickness of the cutting edge is the same as that of the back edge, when cutting bone tissues, the incision is wide, thus the end portion is not easy to be clamped by bone tissue, which effectively prevents the end portion from breaking and reduces occurrence chances of surgery accidents.
Device and Method for Treating Osteonecrosis
The present invention includes a method and devices for treating osteonecrosis in, e.g., children, adolescents, and adults comprising: identifying a subject in need of treatment for osteonecrosis; drilling two or more holes into a bone in need of treatment for osteonecrosis; inserting two or more needles or cannulas into the holes in the bone; washing an interior of the bone with a washing fluid introduced through one or more of the needles or cannulas inserted into the bone; and after washing the interior of the bone introducing one or more bone growth promoting materials or cells into the bone.
Surgical instrument with phase change cooling
Systems and methods are discussed herein for cooling a surgical handset using a phase-change material. A container filled with a phase-change material may be telescoped over a heat-generating mechanism of a surgical handset, such as a battery and/or a motor. When the surgical handset is activated, the heat generated by the heat-generating mechanism is absorbed by the phase-change material in the container, which transitions from a first phase to a second phase.
