Systems, devices, and methods for joint fusion

The present invention relates generally to implants and tools for the fixation or fusion of joints or bone segments. These tools include tissue dilators and protectors. Other tools include broaches used to shape bores in bone. The tools can also include a system for removing an implant from bone. Implants can include assemblies of one or more implant structures that make possible the achievement of diverse interventions involving the fusion and/or stabilization of lumbar and sacral vertebra in a non-invasive manner, with minimal incision, and without the necessitating the removing the intervertebral disc. Implants for fusing both sacroiliac joints of a patient include a long implant that extends across both sacroiliac joints.

Surgical instrument

A surgical instrument for use on a patient's bone is provided and according to one embodiment the surgical instrument comprises a support rod or bar, and a breaking tool that is provided at an extremity of the support rod or bar, which breaking tool comprises a nose and a knife or chisel, wherein between the nose and the knife or chisel a room is provided which is arranged to receive material that is to be removed from the bone, wherein the knife or chisel has at least two surfaces facing the nose, which surfaces merge into a joint crossing line substantially dividing the knife or chisel into two parts on opposite sides of the crossing line, so as to provide a splitting operability to the knife or chisel.

IMPLANTABLE LUBRICATION DEVICE AND METHOD OF TREATING A HUMAN OR MAMMAL PATIENT BY MEANS OF THE DEVICE

A lubrication device for lubricating a joint of a human or mammal patient, which is entirely implantable in a patient's body, comprises a reservoir for storing a lubricating fluid and a fluid connection for introducing the lubricating fluid into the joint when the device is implanted in the patient's body. Further, the fluid connection comprises a fluid connection device connecting the reservoir with the joint such that a lubricating fluid flow is established from the reservoir into the joint. The fluid connection comprises either an infusion needle adapted to be intermittently placed into the joint for injecting the lubricating fluid, or a tube adapted to be permanently placed into the joint for continuously injecting the lubricating fluid.

Intramedullary nails, aiming guide assemblies, and methods. The aiming guide assembly can include an aiming guide having an elongate proximal handle portion. A generally arcuate distal implant alignment tip connector portion is connected to the proximal handle portion and has a distal implant alignment tip extending along a tip axis parallel to a longitudinal axis of the proximal handle portion. A recon module may be releasably attached to a proximal end of the proximal handle portion. An oblique module may be releasably attached to the distal implant alignment tip portion.

Decompression Device and Method
20200397449 · 2020-12-24 ·

A decompression device and method for removing marrow and other fluid from an intramedullary canal. The decompression device includes a cannula having a channel that allows fatty marrow to pass therethrough. A first port extends from the device and is in operable connection to a vacuum source that creates suction for removing fluid from the intramedullary canal. In some embodiments, one or more fenestrations are disposed along the second end of the cannula to expedite the removal of the fluid. In operation, the cannula is inserted into the intramedullary canal of a femur. Once fatty marrow is removed from the intramedullary canal, the cannula is removed and a reaming device is inserted into the femur. In this way, the fatty marrow is removed prior to the reaming procedure in order to prevent these fluids from traveling to the lungs causing blockage that leads to severe cardiorespiratory and vascular dysfunction.

HIP JOINT METHOD
20200390558 · 2020-12-17 ·

A method of absorbing a force in the hip joint of a human patient using a hip joint prosthesis, wherein the hip joint prosthesis comprises a first proximal area having a first material or part of material adapted to have a first elasticity and a second distal area comprising a second material or part of material, adapted to have a second different predetermined elasticity, such that the difference in elasticity affects the elasticity of the hip joint prosthesis along the length axis, the method comprising the step of the material of the first area of the hip joint prosthesis deforming elastically, when exposed to a force, and the material of the second area of the hip joint prosthesis deforming less elastically than the material of the first area of the hip joint prosthesis, when exposed to the force.

Surgical system for positioning prosthetic component and/or for constraining movement of surgical tool

A method for computer-assisted orthopedic feedback of at least one surgical tool relative a pre-operative plan, wherein the surgical tool is moveable relative to an anatomy of a patient during surgery, including providing the pre-operative plan including a planned position and orientation of an implant relative to a virtual model of the anatomy. Further including obtaining a position of the patient structure and at least one surgical tool using a navigation system, and registering the anatomy to the model of the anatomy. Further including tracking a current position and orientation of the at least one surgical tool and the anatomy of the patient using the navigation system, and providing feedback of the current position and orientation of the at least one surgical tool relative to the planned position and orientation of the implant based on the tracked current position and orientation of the at least one surgical tool.

Flexible drill bit and angled drill guide for use with the same

A flexible drill bit comprising: a proximal shaft portion for connecting to a source of turning; a distal cutting tip portion for boring into a material; and an intermediate shaft portion extending between the proximal shaft portion and the distal cutting tip portion, the intermediate shaft portion being characterized by (i) sufficient longitudinal flexibility so as to permit the flexible drill bit to be passed along a curve, and (ii) sufficient torsional strength to permit the flexible drill bit to bore into the material. Apparatus for drilling a hole in material, the apparatus comprising: an angled drill guide comprising a curved distal section, a less-curved proximal section, and a lumen extending therebetween, wherein the less-curved proximal section comprises a flat extending therealong for reducing the effective diameter of the less-curved proximal section so as to minimize interference between the angled drill guide and the side wall of an access cannula.
