Resection guides, sweeping reamers, and methods for use in total ankle replacement
Resection guides include a body a plurality of alignment pin through-holes and a plurality of guide through-holes so that the pattern of guide through-holes is operable for receiving a drill for use in resecting the at least a portion of the anatomical structure of the patient. Sweeping reamers include a body having a plurality of alignment pin through-holes and an elongated opening, and a reamer extendable through the elongated opening of the body. Decoupled resection guides include a first body having a plurality of alignment pin through-holes and a second body having a plurality of fixation pin through-holes and at least one guide aperture operable for guiding a cutting tool for use in resecting a portion of the second anatomical structure of the patient. Methods employing the same are disclosed and operable in, for example, total ankle replacement.
PREPARING A TIBIA FOR RECEIVING TIBIAL IMPLANT COMPONENT OF A REPLACEMENT ANKLE
Disclosed is are various methods of preparing a tibial intramedullary canal for receiving a tibial implant, methods of preparing a talus for receiving a talar implant, and some examples of a power driver adapter that can be used to carry out the preparation of the tibial intramedullary canal.
SURGICAL ROTARY CUTTING TOOL INCLUDING ARTICULABLE HEAD
An articulating rotary cutting tool configured to articulate a distal cutting tip upon a trigger being operated. The trigger can be locked into various articulating positions. The velocity of rotation of a cutting bit is substantially constant in both articulating and non-articulating positions. An articulation joint is one of a hex ball joint or a flexible spring joint. A button is included to release a locking pressure holding the trigger in a locked position. The trigger may employ articulating sliding surfaces that provide constraint to a flexed head in both directions of articulation.
Drill bits and methods for preparing bone
Described herein are examples of orthopedic drill bits and methods of preparing a bone of a living being for fixation. An example method includes coupling a drive attachment of a drill bit to a mounting attachment of a driver, and placing a guide at a desired location on the bone. The guide has an opening corresponding to an area of bone to be removed. The guide provides proper positioning and alignment for drilling a hole. With the guide in place, the method further includes aligning the drill bit with the opening on the guide and drilling a hole in the bone. Once the hole is drilled, the method includes de-coupling the drill bit from the driver, and bending the drill bit at the drive attachment while the drill bit is still in the bone. In some examples, additional method steps follow preparation of the hole.
SURGICAL GUIDE WITH CUTTING DEPTH INFORMATION
A guide for use in cutting a bone is disclosed. The guide includes a bone contacting surface contoured to conformably mate with a first bone surface when placed against the first bone surface, and a guide surface that is spaced apart from the bone contacting surface. At least one prescribed patient-specific depth of cut information is provided on the guide surface that corresponds to the desired depth of cut being made using the guide.
Ankle replacement system and method
A cutting guide and base are provided for use during a total ankle replacement surgical procedure. The cutting guide base includes a slot, a first set of holes and a second set of holes. The first set of holes are positioned along a first flange that extends away from the slot. The second set of holes are positioned along a second flange extending from the slot with a slit included along a wall defining the slot. A method of use of the cutting guide and base is also provided.
Small joint fixation
Disclosed is a medical device having a first implant portion having a proximal end, a second implant portion connected to the first implant portion, the second implant portion having a distal end, and a driver assembly removably connected to the distal end, the driver assembly comprising a drill connected to the distal end at a connection.
BONE POSITIONING AND PREPARING GUIDE SYSTEMS AND METHODS
Methods for temporarily fixing an orientation of a bone or bones. Methods of correcting a bunion deformity. Bone positioning devices. Methods of using a bone positioning device. Bone preparation guides. Methods of using a bone preparation guide.
Fixation apparatus and method for total ankle replacement
A device comprises a base. A support is attached to the base. The support is shaped to receive a calf of a person and adapted to receive a wire or pin for securing a tibia of a person. A foot plate is attachable to the base. The foot plate has a plurality of attached members. The members are configured for receiving at least a first wire or pin to fix a foot of the person relative to the foot plate while the foot plate is oriented normal to a superior-inferior direction of the foot. The foot plate is rotatable relative to the base while the foot plate is attached to the base.
ANKLE REPLACEMENT SYSTEM AND METHOD
Various surgical devices and methods are disclosed herein. Also disclosed is multi-component prosthesis, which can be used as an ankle prosthesis. One of the disclosed surgical alignment systems includes a guide arm, a ratchet arm frame configured to be coupled slidably to the guide arm, a ratchet arm configured to be coupled to the ratchet arm frame, and a sagittal sizing guide body configured to be coupled to the ratchet arm. The sagittal sizing guide body includes a first radiopaque object disposed at a first position and a second radiopaque object disposed at a second position that is spaced apart from the first position.
