Joint osteotomy system and method

A resection guide includes a first body portion and a second body portion. The first body portion has a first bone engagement structure and defines a first plurality of holes. The second body portion has a second bone engagement structure and defines a second plurality of holes. The first body portion and the second body portion are operable to separate a first anatomical structure of a patient and a second anatomical structure of the patient. A cutting guide defines at least one guide aperture that is operable for guiding a cutting tool for use in resecting a portion of the second anatomical structure of the patient. The cutting guide is positionable relative to the first body portion.

A bone implant comprising an elongate body having a first end and a second end coupled by a shaft is disclosed. The first portion is configured to couple to a first bone. The second portion comprises a first expandable section comprising at least one expandable feature. The first expandable section is configured to be received within a reverse countersink in a second bone in a collapsed state and to expand within the reverse countersink. The expandable feature couples to a bearing surface of the reverse countersink. A surgical tool comprising a shaft and at least one expandable cutting edge is disclosed. The shaft is sized and configured to be received within a canal formed in a bone. The expandable cutting edge is formed integrally with the shaft. The expandable cutting edge is configured to expand from a collapsed position to an expanded position for forming a reverse countersink.

A suture system including a suture construct having a first reduction construct configured to be selectively arranged in an expanded state and a reduced state. The first reduction construct includes a first locking limb, a first contractible loop, and a first opposed loop disposed generally opposite to the first contractible loop, wherein reduction of the first opposed loop contracts the first contractible loop from the expanded state into the reduced state and secures the suture construct in the reduced state. The suture construct may also include a second reduction construct. Optionally, the suture system includes a first and a second pusher tube defining a first and a second lumen, respectively, wherein each pusher tubes are advanced over portions of opposed loops, respectively, and wherein distal portions of opposed loops extend beyond the pusher tubes, respectively.

Cortical bone pin

A pin made of cortical bone may be inserted into adjoining bones of a toe to align and secure the bones. The pin may have barbs to prevent migration of the pin. The pin may include a shoulder to further prevent migration of the pin from the bones, to increase the strength of the pin, and to increase the surface area between the bone pin and the host bone. The pin may further include flattened portions on its circumference to aide in rotating the pin during insertion. The pin may be treated to reduce brittleness.

Systems and methods for implanting surgical implants

The present invention relates to an implant system that comprises an implant, a handle configured to removably receive the implant, and, in some embodiments, a spacer tool configured to be mounted on the implant. In further embodiments, a k-wire is employed to guide the implant to a desired location. The handle has a hole for receiving a first portion of the implant. Using the handle to implant the implant, along with an associated spacer, provides a quick and convenient method for implanting the implant as described herein and in the associated drawings.

The method includes: drilling a hole across a first metatarsal and through a second metatarsal; placing a tube from outside the first metatarsal through the hole across the first and second metatarsals; pushing a first button through the tube until the first button exits the tube through a medial side of the second metatarsal; flipping the first button to engage the first button against the second metatarsal and applying a lateral tension on the suture strand; manually pushing the first metatarsal and the second metatarsal together to correct intermetatarsal angular deformity; pulling free ends of the suture strand of the suture-button construct to advance a second button of the suture-button construct and to engage the second button against the first metatarsal; and securing the second button against the first metatarsal.

A central longitudinal axis extends through the elongated shaft. The proximal portion has a first diameter and the distal portion has a second diameter. The first diameter being larger than the second diameter. The cutting device also includes a cutting tip at the distal end of the elongated shaft. The cutting tip extends along a second axis at an angle relative to the central longitudinal axis and includes a curved blade. The curved blade includes an inner wall extending to a base of the cutting tip.
