Devices, systems and methods for diagnosing and treating sinusitis and other disorders of the ears, nose and/or throat
Sinusitis, enlarged nasal turbinates, tumors, infections, hearing disorders, allergic conditions, facial fractures and other disorders of the ear, nose and throat are diagnosed and/or treated using minimally invasive approaches and, in many cases, flexible catheters as opposed to instruments having rigid shafts. Various diagnostic procedures and devices are used to perform imaging studies, mucus flow studies, air/gas flow studies, anatomic dimension studies, endoscopic studies and transillumination studies. Access and occluder devices may be used to establish fluid tight seals in the anterior or posterior nasal cavities/nasopharynx and to facilitate insertion of working devices (e.g., scopes, guidewires, catheters, tissue cutting or remodeling devices, electrosurgical devices, energy emitting devices, devices for injecting diagnostic or therapeutic agents, devices for implanting devices such as stents, substance eluting devices, substance delivery implants, etc.
DEVICES, SYSTEMS AND METHODS USEABLE FOR TREATING SINUSITIS
Sinusitis and other disorders of the ear, nose and throat are diagnosed and/or treated using minimally invasive approaches with flexible or rigid instruments. Various methods and devices are used for remodeling or changing the shape, size or configuration of a sinus ostium or duct or other anatomical structure in the ear, nose or throat; implanting a device, cells or tissues; removing matter from the ear, nose or throat; delivering diagnostic or therapeutic W substances or performing other diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. Introducing devices (e.g., guide catheters, tubes, guidewires, elongate probes, other elongate members) may be used to facilitate insertion of working devices (e.g. catheters e.g. balloon catheters, guidewires. tissue cutting or remodeling devices, devices for implanting elements like stents, electrosurgical devices, energy emitting devices, devices for delivering diagnostic or therapeutic agents, substance delivery implants. scopes etc.) into the paranasal sinuses or other structures in the ear, nose or throat. Specific devices (e.g., tubular guides, guidewires, balloon catheters, tubular sheaths) are provided as are methods for manufacturing and using such devices to treat disorders of the ear, nose or throat.
Medical cutting device comprising a rotating knife
A medical cutting device for creating thin slices, has a device body, a cover, a working section which rigidly adjoins a connecting section, and a recess on the top side, which is enclosed by a delimiting ridge. The cover comprises a counterpart to the connecting section adjoined by a pressure section which is positioned opposite the recess at a distance d.sub.a, and therefore a guide slot extending between the working section and the pressure section remains free for a cutting blade. The distance of the guide slot to the bottom surface of the recess, which is defined by the distance d.sub.a, defines the thickness, which can be achieved, of a slice to be created. The cutting blade is disposed within the guide slot and is rigidly connected to a rotatable shaft extending perpendicularly to the plane of the guide slot and extends through a recess in the cover.
Tissue shaving instrument
A surgical instrument and method of removing a portion of a tissue mass includes a shaft, a cutting member, and an aspiration vent. The shaft has a shaft lumen, a shaft window, and a shaft edge. The cutting member is disposed within the shaft lumen and is configured to cyclically move from a first position to a second position relative to the shaft. The cutting member includes a cutting window opening, a cutting edge, and a suction lumen to cut the tissue portion with the cutting member in the first position. The aspiration vent extends through at least one of the shaft or the cutting member for fluid communication with the suction lumen to suction an airflow for urging the tissue portion away from the cutting edge and along the suction lumen.
Osteotomy Surgical Instrument
An attainment with an osteotomy surgical instrument for the nasal osteotomy is described; it is set up of at least a couple of lever arms and a couple of sharp spouts that are mutually hinged at least in a rotation fulcrum, where said sharp spouts show an active portion with the cross sectional having a sharp angle, in which the sharp angles of the two sharp spouts are opposed and said active portion extends for a length greater than 30 mm and shorter than 45 mm.

METHOD OF MANAGING THE INVENTORY OF EQUIPMENT USED DURING A SURGICAL PROCEDURE BY INDUCTIVELY READING DATA FROM THE EQUIPMENT USED IN THE PROCEDURE
A method for managing inventory of components used during a surgical procedure involving a surgical device and a control unit coupled to the surgical device. Each component includes a circuit for storing identification data by the surgical device or control unit when the component is coupled to the surgical device. During a surgical procedure, the identification data are inductively read from the components Then, the inventor is managed based on the received identification data.

Apparatus to form opening in ethmoid bulla and irrigate ethmoid sinus cavity
An instrument for treating a sinus cavity includes a cutter member, a rotatable member, and a fluid passage. The cutter member has a lumen extending therealong, and the rotatable member is received within the lumen. The rotatable member has a helical blade projecting from a distal end portion. The cutter member is configured to translate relative to the rotatable member. Thereby, the cutter member and the rotatable blade are configured to form an opening into the sinus cavity. The fluid passage extends through the cutter member from an inlet to an outlet. The outlet is positioned proximal to the helical blade such that the outlet is configured to fluidly communicate with the sinus cavity. The inlet is configured to receive at least one of a fluid and a vacuum in order to communicate the respective fluid or vacuum to the outlet for irrigating or suctioning the sinus cavity.
SHAVER WITH BLOOD VESSEL AND NERVE MONITORING FEATURES
A surgical instrument for cutting a first tissue and detecting a second tissue includes a shaft, a cutting member, and a tissue monitor system. The shaft extends along a longitudinal axis and includes a shaft lumen and a shaft opening. The cutting member is disposed within the shaft lumen and configured to cyclically move from a first position to a second position relative to the shaft. The cutting member is further configured to cut a tissue portion of the first tissue for removal therefrom. The tissue monitor system is associated with at least one of the shaft or the cutting member configured to detect the second tissue distinct from the first tissue for selectively cutting and removing the first tissue relative to the second tissue.
