TISSUE THICKNESS COMPENSATOR COMPRISING A RESERVOIR
In various embodiments, a tissue thickness compensator can comprise a compressible extracellular matrix and a bioabsorbable material dispersed within the extracellular matrix, wherein the bioapsorption of the bioabsorbable material is configured to leave behind channels in the extracellular matrix. The tissue thickness compensator can also comprise generation means for generating the ingrowth of tissue into the channels. In at least one embodiment, the tissue thickness compensator can comprise dissolvable wicking members which, when dissolved, can leave behind channels in the tissue thickness compensator. In certain embodiments, the tissue thickness compensator can comprise at least one rupturable capsule.
THROMBUS ASPIRATION SYSTEM AND METHODS FOR CONTROLLING BLOOD LOSS
Aspiration systems and methods for controlling blood loss during thrombus removal are disclosed herein. The systems include an aspiration catheter, an aspiration tubing, a receptacle for collecting aspirated blood, a vacuum line coupled to the receptacle, and a sensor configured to measure a flow parameter associated with a liquid within an aspiration lumen. The systems further include a regulator configured to adjust a vacuum pressure within the vacuum line, and a vacuum controller operably coupled to the sensor and the regulator. The vacuum controller is configured to receive the flow parameter from the sensor, compare the flow parameter to a target range for the flow parameter, and send an automatic control signal to the regulator based on a comparison of the flow parameter to the target range. The automatic control signal causes the regulator to adjust the vacuum pressure within the vacuum line.
Jaw retainer arrangement for retaining a pivotable surgical instrument jaw in pivotable retaining engagement with a second surgical instrument jaw
A surgical instrument that includes a first jaw that has a pair of laterally aligned vertical slots formed in a proximal end portion thereof. Each vertical slot includes an open upper end. A second jaw is movably supported for selective pivotal travel relative to the first jaw between a fully open and a fully closed position. Pivot members protrude laterally from the second jaw and are each received in a corresponding one of the vertical slots in the first jaw such that the pivot members may pivot therein. A retainer member is configured to operably engage the proximal end portion of the first jaw and retain the pivot members in the corresponding vertical slots as the second jaw moves between the fully open and the fully closed positions.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENT
Surgical instrument is provided. The surgical instrument is capable of being operated manually or automatically for use in laparoscopic surgery or various surgeries and includes a locking device capable of locking and/or unlocking at least one operation.
Staple cartridge including projections
A staple cartridge comprising a cartridge body comprising a longitudinal slot, a deck surface, and a plurality of staple cavities defined in the cartridge body is disclosed. The cartridge body further comprises a plurality of projections extending from the deck surface. A surface of each projection is flush with one of a proximal end wall and a distal end wall of each staple cavity. The staple cartridge further comprises staples removably stored in the staple cavities.
Adhesive film laminate
A surgical stapler, or fastening instrument, may generally comprise a layer, such as a tissue thickness compensator, for example, releasably attached to a fastener cartridge and/or anvil by a flowable attachment portion. The flowable attachment portion may be indefinitely flowable. The flowable attachment portion may be flowable from the time that layer is installed to the fastener cartridge to the time in which the layer is implanted to patient tissue. The flowable attachment portion may comprise a pressure sensitive adhesive. The flowable attachment portion may comprise an adhesive laminate comprising a base layer comprising the tissue thickness compensator and an adhesive layer on at least a portion of a surface of the base layer comprising the pressure sensitive adhesive. Articles of manufacture comprising flowable attachment portion and methods of making and using the flowable attachment portion are also described.
Robotically powered surgical device with manually-actuatable reversing system
A surgical tool for use with a robotic system that includes a tool drive assembly that is operatively coupled to a control unit of the robotic system that is operable by inputs from an operator and is configured to robotically-generate output motions. A drive system is configured to interface with a corresponding portion of the tool drive assembly for receiving the robotically-generated output motions and applying the output motions to a drive shaft assembly which is configured to apply control motions to a surgical end effector operably coupled thereto. A manually-actuatable control system operably interfaces with the drive shaft assembly to facilitate the selective application of manually-generated control motions to the drive shaft assembly.
Surgical stapling devices with improved rotary driven closure systems
A surgical instrument comprising an articulatable end effector that is attached to an elongate shaft at an articulation joint. The end effector comprises a first jaw and a second jaw that is movably supported relative to the first jaw between an open position and a closed position. The instrument also includes a rotary closure shaft that operably interfaces with a closure assembly located distal to the articulation joint. The closure assembly interfaces with the second jaw and is configured to move axially in response to rotary closure motions applied thereto by the rotary closure shaft. Axial movement of the closure assembly results in an application of pivotal closure motions to the second jaw to move the second jaw between the open position and the closed position.
Laparoscopic grasper with force-limiting grasping mechanism
A surgical instrument is provided having an actuator mechanism with an integrated extension element. The surgical instrument comprises a handle assembly, an elongate shaft, and an end effector. The end effector comprises a jaw assembly having atraumatic pads to reduce force on grasped tissue. An actuator is movable within the elongate shaft to actuate jaws of the jaw assembly responsive to a movable handle of the handle assembly. The actuator can have an integrated extension element that allows the actuator to translate within the elongate shaft upon application of a relatively low force and translate and extend upon application of a relatively higher force to the actuator to limit the force applied by the jaw assembly. The actuator also utilizes forces stored with the integrated extension element to provide a dynamic amount of force used to grasp the tissue when the tissue volume decreases while in the jaws.
Robotic surgical systems with selectively lockable end effectors
A robotic surgical system is disclosed including an end effector movable relative to a tissue of a patient. The robotic surgical system further includes a control circuit configured to determine a distance between the end effector and the tissue and cause the end effector to be transitioned between a locked configuration and an unlocked configuration based on the distance.
