A surgical instrument includes an end effector, and a shaft assembly. The end effector includes an ultrasonic blade, a rotating body, and a clamp arm movable between an open and a closed position. The shaft assembly extends along an axis and includes clamp arm clocking assembly and a clamp arm pivot assembly. The clamp arm clocking assembly can drive the rotating body and the clamp arm between a first clocked position and a second clocked position. The clamp arm pivot assembly includes an actuator body defining a track, where the actuator body can actuate to drive the clamp arm between the open position and the closed position while the actuator body is in a rotational position relative to the ultrasonic blade. The track houses a portion of the clamp arm in the first clocked position and the second clocked position while the actuator body is in the rotational position.

A safe surgical instrument that allows a surgeon to move a head section by simple manual operation, and having a reduced number of components, comprises a distal tool head and first and second proximal operation sections. The tool head comprises a movable section and a base section. A first connection structure includes a first conversion mechanism, a first shaft, a universal joint provided at the distal and of the first shaft, a second conversion mechanism, and a crank at the distal end of the second conversion mechanism and connected with the proximal end of the movable section. A second connection structure includes a cylindrical shaft having a pinion at its distal section, and an approximately semicircular rack that meshes with the pinion. The intersection of the axes of the pivots of the universal joint is on the axis of rotation of the rack.

Grip force attenuator

A handle of a device such as an endoscopic surgical appliance is provided with a grip for actuation of an effector mechanism positioned at a distal end. A grip force attenuator within the handle absorbs excessive force after the grip force required to fully actuate the effector mechanism has been reached. The handle includes a first spring which deflects in response to hand grip force up to a predetermined level for actuation of the effector mechanism and a second spring which deflects in response to hand grip force which exceeds the predetermined level without applying such excess force to the first spring.

SURGICAL FORCEPS INCLUDING REPOSABLE END EFFECTOR ASSEMBLIES

A surgical forceps including a housing having a movable handle coupled thereto and movable between an initial position and a compressed position is disclosed. A drive bar is operably coupled to the movable handle such that movement of the movable handle between the initial and compressed positions effects longitudinal translation of the drive bar. The drive bar further includes a coupling member disposed at a distal end thereof. An end effector assembly includes first and second jaw members movable between spaced-apart and approximated positions. Each jaw member defines a cam slot. A cam pin is slidably disposed within the cam slot of each of the jaw members. The coupling member is configured to releasably engage the cam pin such that movement of the movable handle between the initial position and the compressed position effects movement of the jaw members between the spaced-apart position and the approximated position.

TREATMENT TOOL AND METHOD OF ADJUSTING TREATMENT TOOL

A treatment tool includes: a first grasper; a second grasper that is rotatably provided with respect to the first grasper, the second grasper being configured to grasp a target region together with the first grasper by approaching the first grasper; a shaft configured to rotate the second grasper with respect to the first grasper; and an adjustment mechanism configured to adjust a trajectory along which the second grasper passes when the second grasper rotates about the shaft and approaches the first grasper, the adjustment mechanism including a protrusion provided according to a predicted length to be required due to variations in components.

Surgical instruments including components and features facilitating the assembly and manufacturing thereof

A surgical instrument includes a shell having a housing and a shaft. The shell including first and second shell components configured to engage one another to form the shell, each of which is monolithically formed to include a housing portion and a shaft portion. Upon engagement of the first and second shell components with one another, the housing portions cooperate to form the housing of the shell while the shaft portions cooperate to form the shaft of the shell. An end effector assembly is operably coupled to the shaft at a distal end of the shaft. A handle assembly is operably coupled to the housing. A drive assembly disposed within the shell is operably coupled between the handle assembly and the end effector assembly such that actuation of the handle assembly manipulates the end effector assembly.

An electrosurgical instrument (10) with two branches (11, 12) that are pivotably supported at each other by means of a pivot joint (13) is disclosed. The pivot joint (13) has a support pin (34) and a support cavity (37). The support pin (34) is particularly torque-proof connected with one of the branches (11) or (12) and rotatably supported in the support cavity (37) of the respective other branch (12) or (11). Between the branches (11, 12) a seal (45) is provided that sealingly abuts at the two branches (11, 12) and that surrounds the support pin (34) completely in the circumferential direction. Preferably, the support pin (34) is sealingly connected with the respective branch (11, 12) at its axial ends. In doing so, entering of contaminants in the area between the support pin (34) and the support cavity (37) from all sides or access possibilities is inhibited.

An electrosurgical instrument with first and second branches that are pivotably supported by a support pin is disclosed. The first branch has a first tissue contact surface and the second branch has a second tissue contact surface. The two tissue contact surfaces are electrically connected with an electric connection device at the first branch. The electric connection is at least partly established via a respective conductor. The second conductor is integrally formed by one single body. The second conductor has a contact section with at least one contact part in contact with an electrically conductive circumferential surface of the support pin, such that an electric rotation connection is established between the contact section and the support pin. In this manner the second conductor arranged in the first branch can establish an electric connection with the second branch via the support pin and further with the second tissue contact surface.
