Biopsy device with selectable tissue receiving aperature orientation and site illumination
A biopsy device includes a disposable elongated probe component having a coaxial arrangement of an elongated tubular section and an elongated tissue cutting member, and having a coaxial arrangement of a first driven gear, a second driven gear, and a third driven gear. The first driven gear is configured to rotate the elongated tubular section. The second driven gear is configured to rotate to longitudinally move the elongated tissue cutting member. The third driven gear is configured to rotate or oscillate the elongated tissue cutting member. A driver component has a coaxial arrangement of a first drive gear, a second drive gear, and a third drive gear. The first drive gear is drivably engaged with the first driven gear. The second drive gear is drivably engaged with the second driven gear. The third drive gear is drivably engaged with the third driven gear.
Apparatus and methods to create and maintain an intra-atrial pressure relief opening
The present disclosure relates to a method and a device for treating heart failure by normalizing elevated blood pressure in the left and right atria of a heart of a mammal. The present disclosure includes methods for creating and maintaining an opening in the atrial septum. Tools for making an opening and enlarging the opening are also disclosed. Use of the techniques and tools described herein prolongs the patency of an intra-atrial pressure relief opening.
Deflectable endoscope and method of use
Integrated hysteroscopic treatment systems which includes an endoscopic viewing system, a fluid management system, a resecting device and a controller for operating all the systems.
Vitrectomy instrument with precision cutter stop
Provided herein are vitrectomy instruments and related systems and methods in which the vitrectomy instruments may include a forward needle stop and a cutter stop to reduce dimensional variation of a cutter of the vitrectomy instruments, allowing for a location of the port formed in a needle of the cutter to be positioned closer to a distal tip of the cutter. With the port located closer to a distal end of the cutter, the port is able to be positioned closer to the retina of an eye.
Arthroscopic devices and methods
A medical device for cutting bone and soft tissue includes a shaft having a rotating component with a distal working end. A cutting member is carried on the working end of the rotating component and a motor rotates the rotating component. The cutting member has a ceramic body with cutting edges, and the ceramic body is formed of a ceramic composite including alumina and zirconia, wherein the alumina has a grain size ranging between 0.5-1.5 microns and the zirconia has a grain size ranging between 0.1-1.0 micron. The alumina grain shape and zirconia grain shape are non-elongated.
Arthroscopic devices and methods
An arthroscopic system includes a hand piece with a motor drive. an elongate shaft assembly is detachably secured to a distal end of the hand piece, and the elongate shaft assembly includes an outer sleeve and an inner sleeve rotatably mounted in the outer sleeve. The inner sleeve couples to the motor drive when the elongate shaft assembly is attached to the hand piece, and an inner distal cutting window on the inner sleeve moves in and out of alignment with an outer distal cutting window on the outer sleeve as the motor drive rotates the inner sleeve. A distal electrode is disposed on an outer surface of the outer sleeve at a location opposite to that of the outer distal cutting window, and the outer sleeve member is rotatable relative to the hand piece when the hub is secured to the hand piece such that a user can hold the hand piece in one hand and rotate the outer sleeve to selectively place the outer distal cutting window or the distal electrode in an upward orientation relative to the user while continuing to hold the hand piece in the one hand.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS HAVING A ROTATABLE BLADE MEMBER FOR TREATING TISSUE
A surgical instrument for treating tissue includes an articulating elongated shaft (14), a drive shaft (28) extending through the elongated shaft and configured to rotate about a longitudinal axis defined by the drive shaft, and an end effector assembly (100) coupled to a distal end portion of the elongated shaft. The end effector assembly includes a jaw member (110) and a blade member (112) configured to rotate in response to a rotation of the drive shaft to treat tissue disposed between the jaw member and the blade member.
System and Method for Urinary Blockage Removal
The present invention relates to a urinary blockage removal system using a novel modified Foley catheter. The system is used for removing urinary bladder blockages of patients having obliterated prostatic urethra with dystrophic calcifications. In one exemplary embodiment, a 22-French modified Foley catheter is used as a sheath to maintain the patency of the lumen of the urethra. A tubular dental handpiece is operated by a dental lab motor and is advanced through the 22-French sheath to a point of the obstruction in the bladder. A dental bur can be pushed forward and drills through the calcification in the prostatic urethra and continues to the bladder neck. Using the dental bur, a blockage at the bladder neck can be removed.
Tissue extraction devices and methods
Tissue may be cut and extracted from an interior location in a patient's body using a probe or tool which both effects cutting and causes vaporization of a liquid or other fluid to propel the cut tissue through an extraction lumen of the cutting device. The cutting may be achieved using an electrosurgical electrode assembly, including a first electrode on a cutting member and a second electrode within a cutting probe or tool.
SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR SEPARATING NATIVE HEART VALVE LEAFLETS ATTACHED TOGETHER BY A FIXATION DEVICE
Systems and methods for separating native heart valve leaflets attached together by a fixation device. The system has elongate shaft including a proximal end portion, a distal end portion and a longitudinal axis extending therebetween. The elongate shaft is configured for transvascular delivery of the distal end portion to a native heart valve. A balloon is disposed at the distal end portion of the elongate shaft, and the balloon is inflatable from a collapsed condition to an inflated condition. At least one snare lumen extends along at least a portion of the balloon, the at least one snare lumen having an exit port defined therein. A snare is deployable through the exit port from a delivery position within the at least one snare lumen to an extended position extending beyond the exit port. The snare in the extended position is configured to capture the fixation device.
