SURGICAL TOOL SYSTEMS, AND METHODS OF USE THEREOF
Surgical tool systems and methods of use thereof for performing endoscopic surgical procedures, which systems include a handpiece and a surgical accessory which detachably connects to the handpiece. The surgical accessory has a distal end which defines a cutting head incorporating two different types of tissue-treating areas.
Endoscopic vessel harvester with blunt and active ring dissection
A vessel dissector for harvesting a target vessel has a tubular member carrying a blunt transparent tip with a terminus for blunt dissection of tissue and a base affixed to the tubular member. An active ring set has first and second ring segments mounted to distal ends of respective manipulator bars in the tubular member. The ring segments juxtapose to define a closed loop with an inner diameter larger than the outside diameter of the tip base. The ring segments are movable between a retracted position nested at the base and respective extended positions distally forward of the terminus. At least one of the ring segments is energizable to cut and cauterize a cylindrical pedicle including the target vessel. The ring segments independently extend longitudinally to provide a variable gap between the ring segments to capture, cut, and cauterize side branches to the target vessel between the ring segments.
SHIELDING FEATURES FOR ULTRASONIC BLADE OF A SURGICAL INSTRUMENT
An apparatus comprises a body, a shaft assembly, an end effector, and a shield member. The shaft assembly extends distally from the body. The end effector is located at a distal end of the shaft assembly. The end effector comprises an ultrasonic blade and a clamp arm. The ultrasonic blade is configured to vibrate at an ultrasonic frequency. The clamp arm is movable toward the ultrasonic blade to compress tissue against the ultrasonic blade. The shield member is selectively movable from a first position to a second position in response to movement of the clamp arm toward the ultrasonic blade. The shield member is configured cover at least a first portion of the ultrasonic blade in the first position. The shield member is configured to uncover the first portion of the ultrasonic blade in the second position.
Retaining mechanisms for prosthetic valves
Prosthetic valve systems for treating a native valve exhibiting regurgitation can include a support structure in which a separate prosthetic heart valve can be placed. A method for implant a prosthetic valve system can include advancing a first catheter delivery sheath through an introducer sheath and into a left ventricle of a patient's heart, deploying at least a portion of a support structure from the first catheter delivery sheath and positioning the support structure around native leaflets of the patient's native mitral valve, positioning a prosthetic heart valve in a radially collapsed configuration within the patient's native mitral valve, and expanding the prosthetic heart valve from the radially collapsed configuration to a radially expanded configuration, wherein the prosthetic heart valve contacts the native leaflets from within the patient's native mitral valve and is separated from the support structure by the native leaflets.
CARDIAC LEAD EXTRACTION DEVICE
The invention relates to a cardiac lead extraction system, comprising: a handle; an elongated body in communication with said handle; a bendable flexible portion in communication with said elongated body, said bendable flexible portion comprising a first lumen sized and shaped to fit over a cardiac lead; said bendable flexible portion being more flexible than said elongated body; an operational distal end in communication with said bendable flexible portion; where said bendable portion is configured to bend to a bending radius of less than 4 cm while keeping said first lumen open; and where said operational distal end comprises at least one lead extraction assistive tool, said operational distal end comprising a second lumen sized and shaped to fit over a cardiac lead, said second lumen being in communication with said first lumen, and said first lumen comprises an inner diameter of from about 1 mm to about 5 mm.
ARTHROSCOPIC DEVICES AND METHODS
A medical device includes an elongated sleeve having a longitudinal axis, a proximal end and a distal end. A ceramic cutting member includes both a cutting window having sharp edges and one or more flutes with cutting burrs circumferentially spaced-apart from the cutting window. An electrode may be placed between a pair of flutes and opposite to the cutting window. A motor drive is coupled to the proximal end of the elongated sleeve to rotate the ceramic cutting member cut bone with the flute(s) and soft tissue with the cutting window. The electrode provides cautery or radiofrequency ablation of tissue when the sleeve and ceramic cutting member are not being rotated.
Endoscopic vessel harvester with blunt and active dissection
A vessel dissector for harvesting a target vessel from a donor has a generally cylindrical tip body with a sloping channel formed along a longitudinal side. A channel bottom provides a channel depth that decreases from a distal channel end to a proximal channel end. The tip body has a crescent-shaped forward lip extending distally from the channel. An arcuate collar is slidably disposed in an arcuate recess within the tip body to selectably bridge the channel at the distal end of the channel to form a ring profile with the forward lip. A first ferromagnetic heating element is disposed along a radially outward surface of the forward lip. A second ferromagnetic heating element is disposed on a distal edge of the arcuate collar. The first and second ferromagnetic heating elements are adapted to be energized simultaneously to make a vasiform cut including a pedicle around the target vessel.
Features to apply fluid to an ultrasonic blade of a surgical instrument
An apparatus comprises a body, a shaft assembly, an end effector, and a wetting member. The shaft assembly extends distally from the body. The end effector is located at a distal end of the shaft assembly. The end effector comprises an ultrasonic blade that is configured to vibrate at an ultrasonic frequency. The wetting member is selectively movable between a first position and a second position. The wetting member is configured to be spaced away from the ultrasonic blade in the first position. The wetting member is configured to contact the ultrasonic blade in the second position and thereby apply a cooling fluid to the ultrasonic blade.
Universal scoring device
In an example, a scoring device is configured for retention of a catheter shaft. The scoring device incudes a proximal portion and a distal portion. A retention sleeve extends between the proximal and distal portions. The retention sleeve has a catheter socket configured to selectively receive and mechanically engage the catheter shaft. The scoring device includes a scoring tool coupled with the retention sleeve, for instance proximate to the distal portion. The scoring tool includes a balloon socket configured to selectively receive a balloon of the catheter shaft. The scoring tool includes one or more scoring elements extending around the balloon socket, the one or more scoring elements configured to provide localized scoring to vasculature.
