VIBRATION GENERATING UNIT, VIBRATING BODY UNIT AND ULTRASONIC TREATMENT INSTRUMENT
A front mass of a vibration generating unit included a flange portion supported, and a block portion provided on a proximal side with respect to the flange portion. A distal end of the element unit abuts on a proximal end of the block portion. Ultrasonic vibration generated in a piezoelectric element is transmitted, thereby vibrating the front mass in a predetermined frequency region where a referential vibration anti-node, which is one of vibration anti-nodes located on the proximal side with respect to the flange portion, is located at a boundary position between the block portion and the element unit or in the vicinity of the boundary position.
MEDICAL HANDPIECE WITH AUTOMATIC POWER SWITCHING MEANS
A medical instrument includes a handpiece, an electromechanical transducer disposed in the handpiece, and an electrical circuit disposed at least partially in the handpiece for supplying alternating electrical current of a predetermined frequency to the transducer. A probe is operatively connected to the transducer for transmitting vibrations generated by the transducer to an operative site in a patient. A switching device is mounted to the handpiece and is operatively connected to the circuit and the transducer for enabling the supply of power to the transducer during a motion of the probe in a preselected direction relative to the handpiece and for disabling the supply of power to the transducer upon a termination of motion of the probe in the preselected direction.
MEDICAL SYSTEMS AND RELATED METHODS
A medical system includes a sheath and an acoustic reflective element that is capable of amplifying acoustic energy. Methods of using a medical system are also provided herein.
Surgical instrument soft stop
A surgical system comprising an elongate shaft and an end effector is disclosed herein. The end effector comprises a first jaw, a second jaw, and a staple cartridge comprising staples removably stored therein, wherein the first jaw is movable relative to the second jaw. The surgical system further comprises a first rotatable drive system configured to close the first jaw and a second rotatable drive system. The second rotatable drive system comprises a drive screw, a drive member movable between a proximal position and a distal position during a staple firing stroke, and a sled configured to eject the staples from the staple cartridge during the staple firing stroke. The sled is not pulled proximally by the drive member when the drive member is retracted. The end effector, the drive screw, and the sled comprise a replaceable assembly.
Ultrasonic surgical instrument
An ultrasonic surgical instrument for boring a hole in a femur, including: an ultrasonic vibrator capable of generating ultrasonic vibration; a probe including a proximal end portion connected with the ultrasonic vibrator and a distal end treatment portion capable of boring a bone hole in the femur, and transmitting the ultrasonic vibration; and a cylindrical member covering the proximal end portion of the probe and not covering an exposed portion including the distal end treatment portion. The distal end treatment portion includes a columnar portion having a cross-sectional area that is larger than that of a remainder of the exposed portion of the probe.
Ultrasonic transmitting unit
An ultrasonic transmitting unit includes a first vibrating section and a second vibrating section vibrating at the same predetermined frequency with respect to each other. The ultrasonic transmitting unit includes a relay portion transmitting an ultrasonic vibration from the first vibrating section to the second vibrating section and positioned at a position corresponding to one of an antinode position of the vibration in the first vibrating section and a position different from an antinode position and a node position of the vibration in the second vibrating section, and a non-contact vibrating portion extending in the second vibrating section from the relay portion toward a first vibrating section side with being not in contact with the first vibrating section.
Ultrasonic surgical instrument with features for forming bubbles to enhance cavitation
An ultrasonic element comprises an ultrasonic transducer and a head or blade. The ultrasonic transducer is operable to convert electrical power into ultrasonic vibrations. The head or blade is in acoustic communication with the ultrasonic transducer such that the ultrasonic transducer is operable to drive the ultrasonic blade to vibrate ultrasonically. The head or blade has a curved distal face. The curved distal face defines a proximally extending concave curve. The transducer and head or blade may be driven using a control logic that is configured to cause the ultrasonic transducer to generate a first vibration set followed by a second vibration set. The first vibration set is configured to generate microbubbles in a fluid. The second vibration set is configured to grow microbubbles generated by the first vibration set. The control logic may provide a pause between the first vibration set and the second vibration set.
Ultrasonic bone cutting instrument
A system includes an ultrasonic instrument and a bone insertion element. The instrument includes an ultrasonic transducer and an ultrasonic blade. The ultrasonic transducer is operable to convert electrical power into ultrasonic vibrations. The ultrasonic blade is in acoustic communication with the ultrasonic transducer such that the ultrasonic transducer drives the ultrasonic blade to vibrate ultrasonically to form an opening within bone. The bone insertion element is configured to be inserted within the opening formed by the ultrasonic blade.
CURVED ULTRASONIC SURGICAL BLADE
An ultrasonic surgical device including an elongate waveguide having a longitudinal axis and a distal end, and a blade extending away from the distal end of the waveguide, the blade including a curved portion that has at least five faces extending lengthwise along at least a portion of the length of the blade. Each of the faces has a width that extends perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the waveguide and a length that extends orthogonal to the width. Each of the faces is flat across its width and is either flat along its entire length or includes one or more curved segments along its length, with each of the curved segments of an individual face being curved in the same direction. A method of fabricating an ultrasonic surgical device is also provided.
SURGICAL INSTRUMENT SOFT STOP
A surgical instrument includes a drive member movable by a drive motor between a home position and an end of stroke. A mechanical stop is disposed at or near the end of stroke and is structured to increase resistance to movement of the drive member from a first position to a second position. A control system detects a current spike associated with the increased resistance and interrupts power to the drive motor.
