A phacoemulsification device includes a phacoemulsification probe and a processor. The phacoemulsification probe includes a piezoelectric crystal configured to vibrate in response to a drive signal, a needle configured to be inserted into a lens capsule of an eye and to be vibrated by the piezoelectric crystal, and a set of magnetic-field components. The set includes (i) one or more magnetic-field generators configured to generate a magnetic field, and (ii) one or more magnetic-field sensors configured to sense the magnetic field. At least one of the magnetic-field components is coupled to vibrate with the needle and at least one other of the magnetic-field components is isolated from vibration of the needle, thereby causing the magnetic-field sensors to output signals indicative of the vibration. The processor is configured to adaptively adjust a frequency of the drive signal so as to vibrate the needle at a resonant frequency of the piezoelectric crystal.

Ultrasonic vitreous cutting tip

An ultrasonic cutting tip has a hollow shaft with a proximal and distal end. The proximal end is configured to be attached to an ultrasonic hand piece, and the distal end has a smooth continuous surface. An opening is located near the distal end of the hollow shaft. The opening is configured to cut vitreous when the cutting tip is vibrated ultrasonically in a torsional manner.

ORTHOPAEDIC CEMENT REMOVAL TOOLS

An ultrasonically-vibratable surgical tool for cement removal in revision arthroplasty, comprises an elongate solid shaft. This can be mounted at its proximal end to a source of ultrasonic vibrations, so that the shaft acts as a waveguide for propagation of the ultrasonic vibrations. The shaft has at its distal end an operative head to act on the cement. An intermediate portion of the elongate shaft is provided with at least one row of dimples extending helically along and around that portion of the elongate shaft. Each dimple is separate from each adjacent dimple. The dimples may have a shallow part-spherical profile.

DISTALLY GENERATED ULTRASONIC MOTION RESECTION TOOL

The present disclosure relates generally to the field of medical devices. In particular, the present disclosure relates to endoscopic medical devices with distally actuated axial displacement configured to impart in-plane or rotational ultrasonic reciprocation to an end effector.

Ultrasonic surgical tool system including a tip capable of simultaneous longitudinal and torsional movement and a console capable of applying a drive signal to the tip so the tip engages in substantially torsional oscillations

An ultrasonic tool system with a console and a tip that has a distal end that when vibrated vibrates both longitudinally and torsionally. The console applies a drive signal to the drivers that vibrate the tip that is at a longitudinal mechanical cancellation frequency. Consequently, when the tip is vibrated, at the distal end the longitudinal component of a first resonant mode of the tip cancel out the longitudinal component of the second resonant move of the tip so the distal end of the tip engages in vibrations that substantially torsional and only minimally longitudinal.

Ultrasonic surgical blade

An ultrasonic instrument comprises an ultrasonic transducer, an acoustic waveguide, and an ultrasonic blade. The blade includes a pair of obliquely extending edges. The obliquely extending edges diverge away from the longitudinal axis of the waveguide and away from each other along respective paths extending distally in relation to the waveguide. A distal portion of the blade is wider than a proximal portion of the blade along a plane. The blade further includes a curved distal edge and several laterally presented surfaces. The laterally presented surfaces may provide combinations of concave and convex curvatures. The laterally presented surfaces may be angled and/or curved along one or more orthogonal planes associated with the longitudinal axis of the waveguide.

Medical devices and related methods for transforming bone, other tissue, or other material are disclosed herein. According to an aspect, a cutting device includes a static casing that defines a sheathing slot and an opening. The sheathing slot extends to the opening and has a first height at an end of the opening. Further, the bone cutting device includes a horn including a first end and a second end. The first end is configured to operatively connect to a source of movement. Further, the second end includes a cutting component having a second height. The first height is greater than the second height.

ABLATION SYSTEM WITH AUTOMATED ABLATION ENERGY ELEMENT

An ablation instrument (e.g., an ablation balloon catheter system) includes an elongate catheter having a housing with a window formed therein. An energy emitter is coupled to the elongate catheter and is configured to deliver ablative energy. A controller is received within the window and is coupled to the energy emitter such that axial movement of the controller within the window is translated to axial movement of the energy emitter and rotation of the controller within the window is translated into rotation of the energy emitter. The instrument includes a motor that is at least partially disposed within the housing of the catheter; a first gear that is operatively connected to and driven by the motor; and a second gear that is coupled to the energy emitter and is driven by the first gear to cause rotation of the energy emitter, while allowing the energy emitter to move axially.
