Disclosed herein is a method of defining a mating surface in a first side of an arthroplasty jig. The mating surface is configured to matingly receive and contact a corresponding patient surface including at least one of a bone surface and a cartilage surface. The first side is oriented towards the patient surface when the mating surface matingly receives and contacts the patient surface. The method may include: a) identifying a contour line associated with the patient surface as represented in a medical image; b) evaluating via an algorithm the adequacy of the contour line for defining a portion of the mating surface associated with the contour line; c) modifying the contour line if the contour line is deemed inadequate; and d) employing the modified contour line to define the portion of the mating surface associated with the contour line.

Targeting adjustment

A targeting system for aligning an axis of a targeting sleeve and a bore in a distal end portion of an intramedullary nail is proposed, the targeting device comprising a distal targeting arm with a first end being configured to be coupled to a trailing end of an intramedullary nail, an adjusting device, the adjusting device being configured to be coupled to the distal targeting arm. The adjusting device may comprise an adjusting element and a nail follower including two targeting holes each being configured to receive a sleeve assembly. The adjusting element may cooperate with the nail follower such that the positions of the two targeting holes are adjustable so as to correspond to respective locking holes at a leading end of the intramedullary nail, even when the nail is bent.

MOBILE MONITORING OF FRACTURE HEALING IN EXTERNAL FIXATORS
20210259626 · 2021-08-26 ·

A device for and a method of monitoring the healing status of a fractured bone in a person's limb is disclosed. The external fixation device may include one or more rods or struts that incorporate strain gauges designed to measure the mechanical forces on the strut when force is applied to the fractured bone. The mechanical force data may be collected by an electronic module and transmitted to a computer for statistical analysis. The device may also include a foot insole sensor for measuring the foot plantar force to normalize the data collected by an external fixation device attached to a person's leg. The method of measuring the healing status of a fractured bone includes measuring the changes in mechanical forces exerted on the one or more struts, and based on the measurements, estimating the healing status of the bone.

An intramedullary based & omni-positionable cutting guide instrumentation for femoral epiphysis resection for knee prosthesis placement comprising: an intramedullary placement guide (1,27) in a medullary cavity of a femoral epiphysis having an anterior/posterior adjustment mechanism (33); posterior rotational referencing sizing jig (8) for fastening to the anterior/posterior adjustment mechanism (33) and configured for referencing anterior (10) and posterior (11, 18) surfaces of the femoral epiphysis to adjust the anterior/posterior offset of the anterior/posterior adjustment mechanism (33); and a punch card (20) for subsequent fastening to the anterior/posterior adjustment mechanism (33) and comprising a plurality of position referencing apertures (21a-21d) for receipt of at least one locking pin (23) of a cutting block guide (5) to allow the anterior/posterior positioning of the cutting block guide (5) at a first position (e.g. FIG. 10) for making a first resection (e.g. 24) and at a second position (e.g. FIG. 11) for the purposes of making a second resection (e.g. 37).

MULTI-SHIELD SPINAL ACCESS SYSTEM

An access device for accessing an intervertebral disc having an outer shield comprising an access shield with a larger diameter (˜16-30 mm) that reaches from the skin down to the facet line, with an inner shield having a second smaller diameter (˜5-12 mm) extending past the access shield and reaches down to the disc level. This combines the benefits of the direct visual microsurgical/mini open approaches and the percutaneous, “ultra-MIS” techniques.

The present invention provides body anchored protraction devices. The protraction devices direct the negative forces of protraction over a large surface area on the chest and abdomen of a patient. The protraction devices employ a cantilever support rod and ultra-low friction joints to enable low compression on the head without restricting free movement.

Three-in-one patient-specific template for usage in ankle replacements surgeries

This invention relates to a custom made cutting block for total ankle replacement consisting of two pieces, one for tibia and other for talus. The block can be using in 3 ways as pin locator, cutting block or in coupling with the other conventional instruments. The block provides a unique method for matching with the tibia and talus based on the CT-scan imaging The block allows the surgeons to detect the correct position of the tibia pin guide and talus pin guide in addition with the volume of bone cutting in tibia to perform the total ankle replacement surgery. The block provides the surgeon by the size of implant and optimum length of the screws. The block can coupling with the other conventional tool in easy plugging method with give a wide range of varieties to the surgeon to preform and detect a correct position of the prosthesis in total ankle arthroplasty.
