Surgical instrument comprising an adaptive electrical system
A surgical instrument system is disclosed comprising a handle, an elongate shaft selectively attachable to the handle, a battery pack replaceably attachable to the handle, and an end effector extending distally from the elongate shaft. In various instances, the battery pack comprises a power source couplable to the motor and a display. The elongate shaft comprises a processor and a memory couplable to the processor. In various instances, the memory comprises a control program which, when executed, causes the processor to initiate a desired function. In various instances, the end effector comprises a sensing circuit configured to detect a condition of the end effector. The sensing circuit is in signal communication with the processor.
ELECTRODE ASSEMBLY
The present disclosure relates to an electrode assembly provided with a lead-in feature that gradually increases the diameter of the outer shaft to that of the insulation sleeve. In doing so, there is no blunt edge formed by the insulation used to secure the electrode assembly to the instrument handle. This prevents a user catching this edge on the cannula, therefore reducing the force needed to insert the device, and the risk of causing damage to the insulation or entry site of the patient.
Expandable catheter and related methods of manufacture and use
A medical device may include an expandable energy delivery array reciprocally movable between a first configuration and a second configuration. The expandable energy delivery array may include a first assembly having a first proximal end piece, a first distal end piece, and one or more first energy transfer elements extending between the first proximal and first distal end pieces, and a second assembly having a second proximal end piece, a second distal end piece, and one or more second energy transfer elements extending between the second proximal and second distal end pieces. The second proximal end piece may be proximal to the first proximal end piece and the second distal end piece may be distal to the first distal end piece.
Apparatus and methods for puncturing tissue
Methods and apparatus are disclosed for puncturing tissue, including a surgical introducer with a stiff main body and a flexible tip which can be used with a puncture device to gain epicardial access. The surgical introducer comprises an introducer shaft having a rigid portion and a flexible tip portion. The rigid portion has a metal tube extending to the rigid portion distal end. The flexible tip portion is distal of the metal tube distal end. The flexible tip portion includes a first polymer and a second polymer, wherein the second polymer is more flexible than the first polymer. The second polymer extends distally from the metal tube distal end to define a second polymer flexible tip segment. The first polymer extends distally from the second polymer flexible tip segment end to define a flexible tip portion cap.
Adaptive control programs for a surgical system comprising more than one type of cartridge
A surgical suturing system is disclosed. The surgical suturing system comprises a shaft, a firing drive comprising a motor, and an end effector extending distally from the shaft. The end effector comprises a needle driver configured to be actuated by the motor, wherein the needle driver is configured to drive a needle installed within the end effector. The end effector further comprises a needle track configured to guide the needle installed within the end effector through a needle firing stroke, wherein the end effector is configured to accommodate suturing needles having different sizes. The surgical suturing system further comprises a control circuit configured to sense the size of the suturing needle installed within the end effector and adjust the actuation stroke of the motor to accommodate the size of the needle installed within the end effector.
Heat transfer through a catheter tip
Described embodiments include a catheter tip that includes an outer layer of a thermally-conducting metal; an inner layer of a thermally-conducting metal; a polymer layer between the inner and outer layer; and a plurality of thermal bridges selectively positioned between the inner and outer layers and through the polymer layer thereby significantly increasing the heat transfer of the catheter tip through the polymer layer. Other embodiments are also described.
Surgical suturing instrument comprising a capture width which is larger than trocar diameter
A surgical suturing system is disclosed. The surgical suturing system comprises a firing drive, an end effector, and a needle configured to be driven by said firing drive. The end effector comprises a track defined therein configured to guide the needle through a needle firing stroke. The surgical suturing system further comprises a needle driver configured to be driven by the firing drive and configured to drive the needle through the needle firing stroke.
INTRAVASCULAR LITHOTRIPSY
A medical device may include an elongated body, a balloon positioned at a distal portion of the elongated body, and one or more pressure-wave emitters positioned along a central longitudinal axis of the elongated body within the balloon. The one or more pressure-wave emitters may be configured to propagate pressure waves radially outward through the fluid to fragment a calcified lesion at the target treatment site. The at least one of the one or more pressure-wave emitters may include an electronic emitter comprising a first electrode and a second electrode. The first electrode and the second electrode may be arranged to define a spark gap between the first electrode and the second electrode, and the second electrode may comprise a portion of a hypotube.
Directionally focused ablation device
A medical device for directionally focusing energy to a treatment site, the medical device including a shaft having an elongated body defining a proximal portion and a distal portion opposite the proximal portion, the distal portion including at least one electrode having a contact portion and a permeable sheath at least partially surrounding the at least one electrode, the permeable sheath and the at least one electrode defining an insulation cavity, the permeable sheath being impermeable to an insulation material introduced to the insulation cavity from a fluid source configured to be coupled to the shaft.
IMPROVED ELECTRODE DESIGN
A catheter for electrophysiological measurement can include a catheter shaft including a proximal end and a distal end. An electrical conductor can be attached to the catheter. In some examples, a catheter tip portion can be located at the distal end of the catheter shaft. The catheter tip portion can include an electrical conductor and an electrode.
