MICROWAVE TREATMENT DEVICES AND METHODS

The present invention discloses medical systems and methods adapted for the delivery of various medical components such as microwave antennas within or on a body for performing one or more medical procedures. Several embodiments herein disclose medical systems comprising a combination of one or more medical components and one or more elongate steerable or non-steerable arms that are adapted to mechanically manipulate the one or more medical components. Several embodiments of microwave antennas are disclosed that comprise an additional diagnostic or therapeutic modality located on or in the vicinity of the microwave antennas.

ENDOSCOPIC TREATMENT DEVICE

An endoscopic treatment device includes a sheath formed from a resin; a flow-passage formation member attached to a distal end portion of the sheath to be rotatable around a longitudinal axis of the sheath; a pair of forceps pieces supported by the flow-passage formation member such that the pair of forceps pieces are able to be opened and closed; a link mechanism connected to the pair of forceps pieces and configured to open and close the pair of forceps pieces; an operation wire extending along the longitudinal axis of the sheath; and a connection member configured to connect a proximal end arm of the link mechanism and the operation wire.

ENDOSCOPIC TREATMENT DEVICE

An endoscopic treatment device includes a sheath formed from a resin; a tubular hollow needle inserted into the sheath and having a sharp distal end; a rod formed from a metal and having a conduit; a shaft attached to a proximal end of the rod and having an internal space communicating with the conduit of the rod; and an operation portion including (i) a slider attached to a proximal end of the shaft, and (ii) and a lever attached to a proximal end of the hollow needle.

Cryogenic ablation system and method

A device for treating esophageal target tissue comprises a catheter, a balloon and a refrigerant delivery device. The catheter has a distal portion and a refrigerant delivery lumen. The balloon is mounted to and the refrigerant delivery device is coupled to the distal portion. The refrigerant delivery device comprises a chamber with the refrigerant delivery lumen opening into the chamber, a refrigerant delivery opening fluidly coupled to the balloon interior, and a distribution passageway fluidly coupling the chamber and the refrigerant delivery opening. A refrigerant is deliverable through the refrigerant delivery lumen, into the chamber, through the distribution passageway, through the refrigerant delivery opening and into the balloon interior so to place the balloon into an expanded, cooled state so that the balloon can press against and cool esophageal target tissue. The medical device may include means for sensing a leak in the balloon.

Medical devices utilizing shape memory alloys and associated methods are disclosed herein. One aspect of the present technology, for example, is directed toward a treatment element configured to be positioned within a body lumen and coupled to an energy source. At least a portion of the treatment element may be made of a shape memory alloy, and wherein application of thermal energy to the treatment element from the energy source transforms the treatment element from the martensitic state to the austenitic state in which the treatment element is configured to cut, ablate, resect, and/or cauterize tissue.

DEVICES, SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR THE TREATMENT OF ABNORMAL TISSUE

Devices, systems and methods are provided to treat damaged, diseased, abnormal, obstructive, cancerous or undesired tissue (e.g. a tumor, a benign tumor, a malignant tumor, a cyst, or an area of diseased tissue, etc) by delivering specialized pulsed electric field (PEF) energy to target tissue areas. The energy is delivered in a manner so as to be non-thermal (i.e. below a threshold for causing thermal ablation). Consequently, when extracellular matrices present, the extracellular matrices are preserved, and the targeted tissue maintains its structural architecture including blood vessels and lymphatics. Thus, sensitive structures, such as biological lumens, blood vessels, nerves, etc, are preserved which are critical to maintaining the integrity and functionality of the tissue. The energy is delivered with the use of systems and devices advantageously designed for superior access to target tissue throughout the body, particularly in locations previously considered inaccessible to percutaneous approaches.
