The teachings provided herein are directed to a methods and devices for treating a hemorrhoid in a subject in a manner that produces substantially less post-procedural pain in the subject, the method minimizing or avoiding a removing or a necrosis of a rectal tissue fold.

Electrosurgical apparatus and method

Apparatus and methods for electrosurgery are disclosed. In one arrangement, an electrosurgical element and a control system are provided. The electrosurgical element is electrically driven in a first electrical driving mode. The first electrical driving mode is such as to cause heating of human or animal tissue by the electrosurgical element. The heating contributes to modification or cutting of tissue by the electrosurgical element. The electrosurgical element is electrically driven in a second electrical driving mode. An electrical response of the electrosurgical element is measured during the electrical driving of the electrosurgical element in the second electrical driving mode.

High-efficiency, directional microwave ablation antenna

An electrosurgical device (10) operable to deliver microwave energy to cause targeted tissue ablation is provided. The electrosurgical device (10) comprises an antenna (26), a reflector (30), and a dielectric material (34) disposed therebetween. The selection of the dielectric material (30) and the relative positioning of the antenna (26) and the reflector (30) provide impedance matching between the antenna (26) and a transmission line (12) so as to minimize heating along the length of the device (10) during use.

RECTAL PHANTOM UNIT AND PHANTOM DEVICE INCLUDING THE SAME

An aspect of the present invention provides a rectal phantom unit and a phantom device including the same, including: a holder having a penetration portion formed in a longitudinal direction thereof; a rectal simulant which is inserted to the penetration portion of the holder, includes a plurality of unit plates laminated thereon, and simulates a rectum of a body; and a film which is disposed between the rectal simulant and the holder and measures an absorbed dose of radiation irradiated to the rectal simulant.

An apparatus and method for effecting at least one anatomical structure of a body including at least one first arrangement structured to be at least partially inserted into the body and including an opening, at least one third arrangement configured to increase and/or decrease a size of the opening by a motion thereof in a first direction, and at least one second arrangement coupled to the third arrangement(s). When the anatomical structure(s) is/are inserted in the opening and is pressed on by the second arrangement(s), a first motion of the third arrangement(s) toward the anatomical structure(s) in the first direction is reduced and/or terminated while a second motion of the second arrangement(s) either (i) remains at least approximately the same, and/or (ii) is reduced to a lesser extent than that of the first motion.

A surgical instrument includes a hollow member having a sidewall provided with a window and a closure member movably connected to the hollow member for alternately covering and uncovering the window. The hollow member has a first clamping surface along an edge of the window, while the closure member has a second clamping surface opposing the first clamping surface and disposable substantially adjacent thereto in a clamping or closure configuration of the instrument. The instrument additionally comprises a tissue occlusion component mounted to at least one of the hollow member and the closure member for acting on tissues gripped between the first clamping surface and the second clamping surface, to couple the tissues to each other.

DEVICE AND METHOD FOR TREATMENT OF HEMORRHOIDS USING SUCTION

A device includes a handle having a trigger in combination with a distal portion, the distal portion including a rigid elongated hollow member which receives tissue therein and a plunger fitted with and configured to slide longitudinally within the hollow member to induce suction at a distal end of the hollow member as the plunger is moved proximally within the hollow member. The trigger is hingedly coupled to the plunger so that pulling the trigger slides the plunger proximally with respect to the hollow member to generate suction to draw the tissue into the distal end of the hollow member. The device further includes a tissue treatment mechanism for encircling the tissue received at the distal end of the hollow member.

MICROWAVE TREATMENT DEVICES AND METHODS

The present invention discloses medical systems and methods adapted for the delivery of various medical components such as microwave antennas within or on a body for performing one or more medical procedures. Several embodiments herein disclose medical systems comprising a combination of one or more medical components and one or more elongate steerable or non-steerable arms that are adapted to mechanically manipulate the one or more medical components. Several embodiments of microwave antennas are disclosed that comprise an additional diagnostic or therapeutic modality located on or in the vicinity of the microwave antennas.
