An electrosurgical forceps includes a first elongated shaft member including a first handle member and a first jaw member having a first tissue contacting surface, and a second elongated shaft member including a second handle member and a second jaw member having a second tissue contacting surface. At least one of the first and second handle members is movable relative to the other between an open position, a first approximated position where the first and second tissue contacting surfaces are diametrically opposed to one another, and a second approximated position where the first and second tissue contacting surfaces are laterally offset from one another. A handle connector assembly is selectively engageable with the second handle member and is configured to selectively communicate electrosurgical energy between the first and second tissue contacting surfaces when the first and second handle members are disposed in the first approximated position.

Surgical forceps

A forceps includes a pair of shaft members, a pair of jaw members each including a distal body and a proximal flange, and a pair of electrode plates. The proximal flanges are engaged with the respective shaft members and pivotably coupled to each other such that pivoting the shaft members pivots the distal jaw bodies. The electrode plates each includes a tissue-contacting portion disposed on the distal body of the respective jaw member and a proximal extension portion extending at least partially through the proximal flange of the respective jaw member. The tissue-contacting portion and proximal extension portion of the first electrode plate are disposed in perpendicular planes relative to each other. Likewise, the tissue-contacting portion and proximal extension portion of the second electrode plate are disposed in perpendicular planes relative to each other.

Surgical instruments comprising button circuits

A surgical instrument is disclosed comprising an actuator and circuitry mounted on and/or embedded in the actuator.

A medical handpiece having a laser irradiation unit connected to a body for generating a laser beam, so as to irradiate a subject with the laser beam; a laser tip which is brought into contact with a predetermined surgical site of the subject so as to guide the laser thereto; a sensor installed in the laser tip so as to measure pressure applied by the laser tip to the predetermined surgical site; and a processor for checking whether the measured pressure is within the pressure range set for the predetermined surgical site, determining, according to the result of the checking, whether the pressure applied to the predetermined surgical site needs to be adjusted, and performing control such that a guide signal for the laser tip is output.

Electrosurgical forceps

An electrosurgical forceps includes first and second shaft members and first and second jaw members extending distally from the respective first and second shaft members. A pivot couples the first and second shaft members with one another such that the first and second shaft members are movable relative to one another between a spaced-apart position and an approximated position to move the first and second jaw members relative to one another between an open position and a closed position. The jaw members are configured to facilitate tissue treatment, tissue division, and blunt tissue dissection.

Bipolar pencil

An electrode assembly for an electrosurgical instrument includes a housing configured to operably receive a distal end of an instrument shaft, the housing including a pair of opposing spring clips. An active electrode is included having a proximal end configured to engage the distal end of the shaft and includes a cutting edge defined about a periphery thereof. An insulator is included that encapsulates the active electrode while leaving the cutting edge exposed. A pair of return electrodes is included that is each configured to operably engage an exposed side of the insulator, each return electrode including a recess defined therein configured to removably receive a distal end of each respective spring clip such that, upon selective engagement of the active electrode with the distal end of the shaft, each spring clip removably snaps into each respective recess to removably lock the active and return electrodes to the housing.

TREATMENT DEVICE

A treatment device equipped with high frequency capability has a pair of clasping jaws. The upper and lower jaws are openable-closable and serves as high frequency electrodes to clamp and seal and/or transect tissue. A blade traverses a channel in the upper and lower jaws and is used to open and close the upper and lower jaws. Additional structures and mechanisms contribute to the operation of the upper and lower jaws and add strength to the opening of the clasping jaws, which is useful in the procedure of peeling tissues using the opening movement of the clasping jaws.

An ablation device includes a handle, an elongated body extending distally from the handle, and an end effector assembly selectively deployable relative to the elongated body. The end effector assembly includes a shaft having a curved configuration defining an inside portion and an outside portion. A plurality of electrode tines extends from the inside portion. At least one electrode tine and the shaft are configured to conduct RF energy therebetween and through tissue to treat tissue. Another end effector assembly includes a tongue having a concave side corresponding to an inside portion and a convex side corresponding to an outside portion. A plurality of electrodes is disposed on the concave side of the tongue and an insulating layer is disposed on the convex side of the tongue. At least one electrode and the tongue are configured to conduct RF energy therebetween and through tissue to treat tissue.
