Biopsy tract ablation system for tumor seeding prevention and cauterization
An ablation probe comprising an elongate body extending a length along a longitudinal axis from a first end to a second end, the first end extending into a housing and the second end comprising an ablation probe tip configured for insertion into a biopsy tract in a patient. In example forms, the elongate body of the ablation probe can be inserted into a patient through an existing trocar needle or biopsy access cannula following completion of a biopsy. In other example forms, the elongate body of the ablation probe defines a lumen. In one example form, the lumen contains a wire for heating the ablation probe tip, which may be composed of graphite, a resistive metal, or another electrically-resistive material. In another example form, the lumen additionally contains a thermocouple or other temperature sensor for monitoring the temperature of the ablation probe tip. In any of the above example forms, use of the ablation probe to heat tissue following a biopsy effects cauterization of the tissue, stopping bleeding and reducing or preventing the seeding of additional tumors.
System and device for treating body tissue
A medical device that includes a hand piece; a beam fiber; and a beam disperser located at a distal end of the beam fiber through which beam energy is dispersed. The beam disperser includes one face, or a plurality of substantially planar faces through which the beam energy is dispersed.
FOLLICULAR GROWTH INDUCING APPARATUS
A follicular growth inducing apparatus is suitable for a surgical procedure for inducing follicular growth and is less invasive and less likely to degrade the ovarian functions. The follicular growth inducing apparatus includes an ovarian puncture needle that forms a puncture hole by puncturing an ovary in a traveling direction of ultrasound emitted from a probe in a transvaginal ultrasound device toward the ovary, for inducing growth of follicles, and an optical fiber that guides a laser beam emitted from a laser generator. The ovarian puncture needle includes a needle tube including a basal end, a shaft supported on the basal end, and a needle tip continuous with the shaft. The needle tip punctures the ovary. The optical fiber is installable in the needle tube to have a distal end of the optical fiber adjacent to the needle tip.
Surgical instrument for minimally invasive aspiration of tissue
An apparatus for disruption of cataracts in lens tissue. The apparatus includes a housing; a source of pulsed laser radiation; and an optical waveguide. The optical waveguide is configured to transmit the pulsed laser radiation from the source of pulsed laser radiation, and is coupleable to the source of pulsed laser radiation at a proximal end of the optical waveguide to receive the pulsed laser radiation from the source of pulsed laser radiation. The apparatus also includes a driving mechanism coupled to the optical waveguide for controllably changing the position of the optical waveguide relative to a distal end of the housing.
Laser treatment of benign prostatic hypertrophy
The method of treating benign prostatic hyperplasia comprises trans-perineally introducing at least one energy delivery device through a perineal area of the patient in a first position in a prostate of the patient. Once the energy delivery device has been introduced, energy is delivered through the delivery device to a volume of tissue of the prostate, until the volume is vaporized or sublimated and a cavity is formed in the prostate tissue. The energy delivery device can then be removed from the prostate. Vaporization of adenomatous tissue provides immediate relieve of the urethra compression.
Apparatus and method for controlling immunostimulating laser thermotherapy
An apparatus for obtaining an anti-tumour immunologic response by thermotherapy of a treatment lesion covering at least a portion of a tumour is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a heating probe comprising an optical fiber and a cooling catheter. The optical fiber is inserted in the cooling catheter. Further the heating probe has a light emitting area, and the heating probe is interstitially insertable into the tumour of the treatment lesion. The heat probe is internally cooled by a fluid circulating in said catheter. The apparatus further comprises a first thermal sensor member having at least one sensor area. The first thermal sensor member is positionable at a distance from said boundary. The apparatus also comprises a control unit for controlling a power output of said light source based on a measured first temperature.
BIOPSY TRACT ABLATION SYSTEM FOR TUMOR SEEDING PREVENTION AND CAUTERIZATION
