PROTECTIVE DEVICE FOR USE DURING SURGERY
A protective assembly for use during laparoscopic surgery, the assembly comprising: a thin membrane formed from non-toxic material, the membrane being sufficiently thin and maneuverable to be passed through a cannula of a trocar; a flexible connector extending from the thin membrane; and an insertable shaft dimensioned to be passed through the cannula wherein a distal portion of the shaft is anchored to the flexible connector.
Apparatus for manually manipulating hollow organs
An apparatus for mechanically manipulating hollow organs within the body of a subject, or an organ manipulation apparatus, includes a manipulation section. The manipulation section may include a substantially two-dimensional element, which may have a width that exceeds a distance across a portion of the interior of a hollow organ within which the manipulation section is to be positioned. The manipulation section is configured to manipulate at least a portion of a hollow organ from within, which may modify at least one of a shape, orientation, or location of at least part of the hollow organ. Methods for manipulating hollow organs are also disclosed, as are operating techniques, such as left atrial ablation, in which the shapes, orientations, and/or locations of hollow organs are manipulated to move the hollow organs away from the site of the medical procedure, reducing the potential for damage to the hollow organs.
Systems, Devices, Components and Methods for Displacing and Repositioning the Esophagus Away from the Heart during Atrial Ablation Surgical Procedures
Disclosed are various embodiments of systems, devices, components and methods for re-positioning or displacing a patient's esophagus a safe distance away from the patient's heart during an atrial ablation surgical procedure. An esophageal displacement catheter is disclosed that is configured to reposition a patient's esophagus 20 mm or more away from the ablation location in the patient's heart. A distendable section of the catheter is configured such that portions of a first pulling member extend sufficiently far away from joints located in the distendable section when the first pulling member is in a retracted position to permit the distendable section to assume a deployed and distended configuration. At least one flexible deformable or distendable member, sheath or covering is configured to be disposed over and cover the portions of the first pulling member extending away from the joints when the distendable section is the deployed and distended configuration. One or more balloons can also be incorporated into the catheter to enlarge controllably the diameter of the distendable section.
Scissor sleeve assembly protection
A sleeve insertion assembly includes a sleeve inserter defining an inner chamber and having a distal end and a proximal end opposite the distal end, a sleeve receivable within the inner chamber, and a blade guard receivable within the sleeve and having a cylindrical body that defines an interior and an open end. The open end is sized to receive jaw members of an end effector into the interior but prevent the end effector from entering the interior, and the blade guard is forced out of the sleeve when the sleeve is installed on the end effector.
ILLUMINATED AND ISOLATED ELECTROSURGICAL APPARATUS
Unintended current flow or plasma discharge has been observed in known illuminated electrosurgical devices having a metallic tubular heat sink surrounding a conductive electrode and an illumination element, and having a distal outer edge that abuts against the light emitting element. An insulating, shielding or other isolating element that prevents or discourages unintended plasma formation between the distal outer edge and nearby patient tissue can reduce the potential for tissue damage to a patient or injury to a surgeon.
CAP FOR ENDOSCOPE
A device for fragmenting a surgical implant includes a cap. The cap includes a first channel extending from a first end of the cap to the second end of the cap. The device includes a first electrode, a second electrode, and an endoscope coupled with the cap.
Device system and method for tissue displacement or separation
A tissue displacement/separation device includes a seamless bladder constructed of a biodegradable polymer. The bladder is expandable from a collapsed or rolled state for insertion into a body between a first and second tissue to an expanded state for separating the first and second tissue.
SYSTEM(S), METHOD(S) AND DEVICE(S) FOR THE PREVENTION OF ESOPHAGEAL FISTULA DURING CATHETER ABLATION
The present invention is directed to systems, devices and methods for trans-septally delivering carbon dioxide through a minimally invasive catheter to create a gaseous pocket or emphysema between the posterior wall of the left atrium and the esophagus during cardiac ablation of the left atrium. This pocket of gas expanded tissue serves to thermally insulate and separate the esophagus from the left atrium during ablation to prevent the formation of an atrial-esophageal fistula. The system comprises a control system to precisely deliver the gas to a desired location through a needle-based catheter assembly.
Bone fixation assembly, implants and methods of use
Bone fusion system, plate system, guide, implant, kit and methods for using the bone fusion system, plate system, guide and implant are disclosed. The bone fusion system includes an alignment guide, an implant, and at least one fastener inserted through the implant. The alignment guide includes a body portion, a first lobe positioned at a first end of the body portion, a second lobe positioned at a second end of the body portion, and an extension member extending away from a first side of the body portion. The implant includes a body portion, a first arm extending away from the body portion in a first direction, a second arm extending away from the body portion in a second direction, and a third arm extending away from the body portion laterally between the first and second arms. Finally, methods for using the bone fusion system, plate system, guide and implant are disclosed.
Device for the displacement of a hollow organ of a patient
The invention relates to a balloon catheter (1), which allows esophageal injuries to be prevented by the displacement of the esophagus of a patient during catheter ablation for cardiac arrhythmias. For this purpose, three balloons (7, 9, 11) are provided along a catheter shaft (3), which are arranged at a distance from each other and can each be alternately expanded in opposite directions.
