Systems and methods for instrument engagement

A medical system includes a control system and an instrument manipulator. The instrument manipulator is configured to receive an instrument and includes a first drive output and a first actuating element configured to drive movement of the first drive output. The first drive output is configured to drive a first input coupling of the instrument. The control system is configured to receive an indication that the first input coupling of the instrument is positioned adjacent to the first drive output of the manipulator, in response to receiving the indication, command the first actuating element to cause movement of the first drive output, receive a feedback associated with a force experienced by the first actuating element during the movement of the first drive output, determine an instruction signal for the first actuating element based on the feedback, and transmit the instruction signal to the first actuating element.

Impactor mechanism for virtual reality surgery simulation system and telesurgery

An impactor mechanism for virtual or telepresence surgery comprises a base. An impactor shaft has a first end and a second end, a handle portion being provided at the second end. A rotational joint(s) is between the first end of the impactor shaft and the base, the joint providing two or more rotational degrees of freedom to the impactor shaft. Sensors are in the impactor mechanism for measuring an orientation of the impactor shaft relative to the base, and for measuring at least an impact force on the impactor shaft, for use in virtual surgery.

Method for energy distribution in a surgical modular energy system

A method of operating a modular surgical system including a control module, a first surgical module, and a second surgical module is disclosed. The method includes detachably connecting the first surgical module to the control module by stacking the first surgical module with the control module in a stack configuration, detachably connecting the second surgical module to the first surgical module by stacking the second surgical module with the control module and the first surgical module in the stack configuration, powering up the modular surgical system, and monitoring distribution of power from a power supply of the control module to the first surgical module and the second surgical module.

Method and system for controlling rotational speed of an agitator or catheter

A method and device handle having a slide assembly for controlling rotational speed of a catheter assembly under various rotational loads. The method includes setting a first current limit in a processor, activating the catheter assembly to rotate, calculating a current value in rotational period of a first current limit, updating a second current limit from the first current limit, and wherein the second current limit is lower than the first current limit.

Torque wrench for implant procedure

Provided is a torque wrench for an implant procedure including: a first body having a predetermined length, and including a head portion having an end to which a torque wrench driver bit is coupled; at least one second body having a predetermined length, provided at one side of the first body, and including a coupling portion formed in a longitudinal direction thereof; and a second shaft rotatably coupled to the coupling portion of the second body, including a second gear provided at one end thereof and a knob provided at the other end thereof, and configured such that, in response to rotation of the knob, the second shaft transmits torque to the torque wrench driver bit through the first gear engaged with the second gear.

Bone plating system clamp sizing instrument and installation instrument

A measuring instrument configured to measure a bone and a plate to determine the size of an attachment clamp, including: a medial clamp configured to engage a medial portion of the bone; a medial gauge connected to the medial clamp, the medial gauge including: a key along a portion of the medial gauge adjacent the medial clamp; a gauge indicator configured to indicate the size of attachment clamp; and a threaded portion; a lateral clamp configured to engage a plate on the bone, where the lateral clamp has a hollow portion with a channel, wherein the gauge indicator is positioned in the hollow portion and wherein the channel is configured to engage the key of the gauge indicator to prevent the lateral clamp from rotating about the gauge indicator; and a tightening knob threaded onto the thread portion of the of the medial gauge, wherein one end of the tightening knob indicates on the gauge indicator the size of the attachment clamp.

Tool for bone implant

A tool for a bone implant includes a rod and an adaptor. The rod includes a coupling portion having a through-hole. The rod further includes a measuring arm connected to the coupling portion and a force applying arm connected to the coupling portion. The measuring arm includes a first extension section having a first indicator portion, and the force applying arm includes a second extension section having a second indicator portion. The force applying arm is elastically deformable away from the measuring arm to displace the second extension section relative to the first extension section. The adaptor is coupled in the through-hole and includes an outer ring and an inner ring. The outer ring is rotatable relative to the inner ring in a single direction.

User-installable part installation detection techniques

Techniques are described for testing whether an end effector, or component thereof, is correctly or incorrectly installed to a manipulation system. In an example, a manipulation system can include a manipulator arm configured to receive an end effector having a first moveable jaw, a transducer configured to provide first effort information of the end effector as the end effector moves, and a processor configured to provide a command signal to effect a first test move of the first moveable jaw, and to provide an installation status of the of the end effector using the first effort information of the first test move.
