TORQUE LIMITING HANDLE FOR MEDICAL INSTRUMENT
A torque limiting handle for a medical instrument is provided that includes a tool connector, a torque coupler, and a rear power housing. The handle limits the amount of torque in one direction while allowing for maximal torque in the opposite direction. In one aspect, the torque limiting handle may include a drive shaft removeably connected to a power tool or, alternatively, to a handle grip for manual manipulation.
Surgical tool performance via measurement and display of tissue tension
A method includes advancing an end effector of a surgical tool to a surgical site, setting a desired force vector to be assumed on the end effector during actuation of the end effector, engaging tissue at the surgical site with the end effector and calculating a force vector assumed on the end effector, and maneuvering the end effector to obtain the desired force vector.
ROBOTIC SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR REORIENTING A SURGICAL INSTRUMENT
A robotic system and methods are disclosed. A common axis is defined for an instrument and an energy applicator extending from the instrument. A manipulator has a plurality of links and actuators configured to move the links to position the instrument and energy applicator. A force/torque sensor coupled to the manipulator generates an output in response to forces/torques applied to the instrument. Controller(s) defines a centering point that intersects the common axis. Controller(s) model the instrument and the energy applicator as a virtual rigid body and determine forces/torques to apply to the virtual rigid body, which are determined, in part, based on the output of the force/torque sensor. Controller(s) control the manipulator to advance the energy applicator based on the determined forces/torques applied to the virtual rigid body and reorient the instrument such that the common axis pivots about the centering point during advancement of the energy applicator.
MANIPULATION DEVICE
A gripper for manipulation of an elongate member includes a flexible sleeve for receiving the elongate member, the sleeve extends along a sleeve axis and has first and second opposite ends; a first clamping element is configured to receive and removably couple to the first end of the sleeve; and a second clamping element is configured to receive and removably couple to the second end of the sleeve. The sleeve has a first width at a first location when the first and second clamping elements have a first spacing along the sleeve axis and a second width at the first location when the first and second clamping elements have a second spacing along the sleeve axis which is less than the first spacing.
PATIENT-SPECIFIC SURGICAL METHOD AND SYSTEM
A method of determining patient-specific implant parameters for an implant used in a surgical procedure is described. A surgical system receives one or more initial transfer functions and one or more preoperative input factors for a patient and generates a surgical plan comprising one or more patient-specific implant parameters based on the one or more initial transfer functions and the one or more preoperative input factors for the patient. The surgical system further receives one or more intraoperative input factors for the patient and updates the one or more patient-specific implant parameters based on the one or more intraoperative input factors for the patient. An implant for the patient is selected based on the one or more updated patient-specific implant parameters.
METHOD OF USING IMAGING DEVICES IN SURGERY
A method for generating and updating a three-dimensional representation of a surgical site based on imaging data from an imaging system is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of generating a first image of the surgical site based on structured electromagnetic radiation emitted from the imaging system, receiving a second image of the surgical site, aligning the first image and the second image, generating a three-dimensional representation of the surgical site based on the first image and the second image as aligned, displaying the three-dimensional representation on a display screen, receiving a user selection to manipulate the three-dimensional representation, and updating the three-dimensional representation as displayed on the display screen from a first state to a second state according to the received user selection.
