A loading unit detection system includes an elongate member, a loading unit, a magnet, and a GMR IC. The elongate member defines a receiver. The loading unit includes a connector that is configured to be received within the receiver to releasably couple the loading unit to the elongate member. The magnet is supported on the connector and is configured to translate relative to the elongate member as the connector is received within the receiver. The GMR IC is embedded within the elongate member and is configured to output a differential voltage in response to a magnetic field produced by the magnet of the loading unit. The differential voltage is indicative of the position of the loading unit within the receiver of the elongate member.

SUTURE NEEDLES WITH FLEXIBLE AND NON-FLEXIBLE COMPONENTS

Disclosed is a suturing needle having a thread attachment portion and a ramp portion comprising a tapered portion extending from a proximal end of the needle to cover at least a portion of a suture thread swaged in the thread attachment portion. The tapered portion of the ramp portion provides a smooth transition from a diameter of the suture thread to a diameter of the needle body. The tapered transition portion allows for engaging the suture needle on rollers of a rotational needle driver in one smooth motion. The suturing needle includes a hollow flexible extension component having a distal end and a proximal end, the distal end connected to the proximal end of the thread attachment component, and the proximal end attached to the distal end of the tapered extension ramp portion. The suturing needle can include a combination of flexible and non-flexible sections and/or a combination of straight and curved sections.

ROBOTIC SURGICAL ASSEMBLIES AND INSTRUMENT DRIVE CONNECTORS THEREOF

An instrument drive connector includes a housing assembly, an elongated shaft extending distally from the housing assembly, and a first drive assembly at least partially disposed within the housing assembly and the elongated shaft. The first drive assembly includes a first drive screw, a first input drive coupler non-rotatably coupled to a proximal end of the first drive screw, a first drive nut threadedly engaged with a threaded body portion of the first drive screw and longitudinally movable relative thereto in response to rotation of the first drive screw, and a locking link. The locking link includes an elongated body having a proximal end portion coupled to the first drive nut and longitudinally movable relative thereto between a proximal non-locking position and a distal locking position, and a distal end portion including a switch actuation assembly including a switch actuating arm biased towards the distal locking position.

ROBOTIC INSTRUMENT ALIGNMENT

An alignment device includes an elongate rod, a sealing hub coupled to a proximal end of the elongate rod and configured to form a fluid-tight seal within a portion of a percutaneous-access device, and an alignment structure coupled to the sealing hub and having a form configured to engage with a component of an instrument manipulator assembly of a robotic system.

A stapling device includes a shell assembly, an anvil retainer assembly, an anvil assembly, and a strain gauge. The shell assembly includes a housing including an inner housing portion that defines a through bore and supports at least one detection member or leg. The anvil assembly includes an anvil head and an anvil center rod having a boss. The at least one detection leg is positioned to engage the boss of the center rod to obstruct movement of the anvil assembly in relation to the shell assembly between an open position and a clamped position. The strain gauge is positioned to identify increased strain in the stapling device when the at least one detection leg engages the boss. This allows a clinician to confirm that an anvil assembly is properly attached to the stapling device prior to firing of the stapling device.

Handheld electromechanical surgical system

A handheld electromechanical surgical device, capable of effectuating a surgical procedure, includes a handle assembly having a power source; at least one motor coupled to the power source; and a controller configured to control the motor. The surgical device includes an adapter assembly having an electrical assembly having a proximal end in communication with the controller of the handle assembly. The surgical device includes a reload configured to selectively connect to a distal end of the adapter assembly. The reload includes an annular array of staples; an annular staple pusher for ejecting the staples; and a data storage device selectively connectable to a distal end of the electrical assembly.
