A multi-directional handpiece that includes a motor drive extending along and configured for rotation about a body axis, the motor drive having: a motor gearing at a proximal end of the motor drive; and a file gearing in engagement with the motor gearing for transferring the rotational and axial movement to a workpiece; and a housing for the workpiece; and wherein through rotation of the motor drive, the workpiece moves in an axial oscillating motion while being rotated.

Apparatus and method for asymmetrical coast control of an endodontic motor

An apparatus for controlling asymmetrical coasting of an endodontic reciprocating motor includes a controller operatively connected to the endodontic motor. The controller may include a processing unit that is configured to direct the rotation of the endodontic motor in the forward direction for a coast time and configured to direct the rotation of the endodontic motor in the reverse direction for a coast time. The forward coast time is separately calculated from the reverse coast time. A method for asymmetrically coasting a reciprocating endodontic motor includes rotating an endodontic motor in a forward direction and calculating a forward coast time for the forward direction and coasting the endodontic motor in the forward direction for the calculated forward coast time. After coasting the endodontic motor in the forward direction, the endodontic motor is rotated in a reverse direction. The reverse coast time is different than the forward coast time.

Dental treating apparatus and driving method for the same

A dental treating apparatus according to the present invention includes: a hand piece; a head unit; a driving unit; a control unit; a load specifying unit; and a load comparing unit. The hand piece drivably holds a cutting tool on the head unit. The driving unit drives the cutting tool in a normal rotation direction or in a reverse rotation direction. The load comparing unit compares a load detected and a reference load. During a normal rotation period until driving for rotating the cutting tool in the normal rotation direction by the driving unit satisfies a predetermined first condition, the control unit maintains a rotation direction of the cutting tool in the normal rotation direction, and when a result of comparison by the load comparing unit attains a predetermined result during the normal rotation period, the control unit controls the rotation direction to the reverse rotation direction.

ENDODONTIC TOOL AND METHOD
20180028279 · 2018-02-01 ·

A reciprocating endodontic hand tool in which the torque applied to an instrument such as a debriding file can be set at or below an endurance limit of the file below which failure of the instrument will not occur. In preferred embodiments the tool can switch between settings in which the torque applied to the instrument is between the endurance limit of the file and an elastic limit of the file, by setting forward and reverse angles of rotation within specified limits. This reduces or eliminates opportunites for plastic distortion, fatigue and breakage of the file during the canal debriding/cleaning/shaping process in a root canal treatment or retreatment. In some embodiments the torque may be set to at or below a durability limit of the file below which failure of the instrument will not occur through repetitive strain over the course of a particular root canal treatment or retreatment.

The present invention provides a system for the endodontic treatment of a root canal that includes (i) an endodontic instrument; (ii) an endodontic handpiece having a drive motor for rotating the endodontic instrument releasably attached to the handpiece; (iii) a control unit for controlling the rotation of the endodontic instrument according to one or more predetermined rotational sequences.

SECURE HANDPIECE AND METHOD FOR SECURING THE USE OF AN ENDODONTIC INSTRUMENT

A handpiece for endodontic practice, which is devised to drive a root canal instrument and includes: a control unit which runs a computer program, and a measuring element for measuring mechanical stresses experienced by the instrument, the measuring element is connected to the control unit. The computer program being configured to compare the mechanical stresses experienced by the instrument with respect to a predefined threshold, the predefined threshold preferably being a threshold permissible by the instrument. The mechanical stresses are at least axial stresses, and depending on the comparison between the axial stresses experienced by the instrument and the threshold: the computer program is programmed to adapt the driving of the instrument, and/or the handpiece including a warning element, and the computer program is programmed to activate the warning element.

RECIPROCAL MOTOR MOVEMENT FOR ENDODONTIC FILES
20240398507 · 2024-12-05 · ·

The present disclosure relates to a dynamic self-adaptive reciprocal motor movement optimized for root canal treatment with endodontic files. A smart motor movement is configured to continuously self-adapt its settings in a smooth manner without sudden drastic motor movement changes. This can be obtained by continuously changing motor parameters in response to instantaneous torque measurements, and also taking into consideration the torque evolution instead of merely reacting to the instantaneous torque imposed on the file.
