SMART ENERGY COMBO CONTROL OPTIONS
Examples herein describe a surgical instrument that deliver a first energy and a second energy configured to seal the tissue. The first energy may be operated by a first energy algorithm and second energy may be operated by a second energy algorithm. The surgical instrument may include an updatable memory that may store a default control algorithm that may control both the first energy algorithm and the second energy algorithm simultaneously. The surgical instrument may include a processor that may be configured to operate in a first mode at a first time, wherein in the first mode the processor may be configured to operate according to the default control algorithm. The processor may receive data at a second time that may cause the processor to operate in a second mode, wherein in the second mode the processor may be configured to operate according to an alternative control algorithm.
END EFFECTOR UPDATES
Examples herein describes a powered surgical end-effector that may include a controllable jaw configured to operate on a tissue, an updatable memory having stored therein a default actuation algorithm, and and a processor. The processor may be configured to operate in a first mode at a first time, wherein in the first mode the processor may be configured to operate an aspect of the controllable jaw according to the default actuation algorithm. The processor may receive data at a second time, after the first time, that may cause the processor to operate in a second mode, wherein in the second mode the processor may be configured to operate an aspect of the controllable jaw according to an alternative actuation algorithm.
METHOD OF HUB COMMUNICATION, PROCESSING, STORAGE AND DISPLAY
Disclosed is a surgical system that includes a first modular device and aa surgical hub, including a control circuit configured to receive first perioperative data from a second modular device; anonymize the first perioperative data; receives second perioperative data from a third modular device; anonymize the second perioperative data; and adjust at least one setting of the first modular device based on contextual information derived from the anonymized first and second perioperative data.
METHOD OF HUB COMMUNICATION
Disclosed is a surgical system, comprising surgical hubs configured to be communicatively coupled to surgical instruments in surgical procedures; and a cloud computing system, comprising an input/output interface configured for accessing data from the surgical hubs. The cloud computing system is configured to aggregate surgical instrument data and patient outcome date from the surgical hubs; determine a correlation between the surgical instrument data and the patient outcome data; access a live surgical procedure data for a live surgical procedure; and determine an irregularity in the live surgical procedure data based on the correlation.
METHOD OF HUB COMMUNICATION
Disclosed is a cloud computing system for use with surgical hubs communicatively coupled to surgical instruments in surgical procedures. The cloud computing system includes an input/output interface configured for receiving raw data from the surgical hubs, wherein the raw data are generated from operation of the surgical instruments in the surgical procedures. The cloud computing system further includes a data collection and aggregation module configured to: identify patterns in the raw data; generate metadata based on the patterns; aggregate raw data into data sets based on a predetermined classification system; and store aggregated data sets in a database.
METHOD OF CLOUD BASED DATA ANALYTICS FOR USE WITH THE HUB
A method of improving an operational parameter of a surgical system using data analytics is disclosed. The method includes transmitting, from each of a plurality of surgical hubs of the surgical system, operational data of a plurality of surgical instruments communicatively coupled to the plurality of surgical hubs, to a cloud computing system of the surgical system; aggregating, by the cloud computing system, the operational data into aggregate medical resource data; analyzing, by the cloud computing system, the aggregate medical resource data to determine a recommendation to change the operational parameter based on the analyzed aggregate medical resource data, wherein the aggregate medical resource data comprises one or more of usage data, patient derived parameter data, surgical performance data, and surgical outcome data; receiving, by the plurality of surgical hubs, the recommendation from the cloud computing system; and displaying, by the plurality of surgical hubs, the recommendation.
METHOD OF HUB COMMUNICATION
Disclosed is a surgical system that includes a surgical hub couplable with inventory items of an institution, and a cloud-based analytics system communicatively coupled to the surgical hub. The cloud-based analytics system is configured to receive a selection of a surgical procedure to be performed; determine a property of a tissue to be treated in the surgical procedure; select from the inventory items a surgical device for use in the surgical procedure based on the tissue property; and suggest using the surgical device in the surgical procedure based on availability of the surgical device in inventory.
METHOD OF HUB COMMUNICATION, PROCESSING, DISPLAY, AND CLOUD ANALYTICS
A method of displaying an operational parameter of a surgical system is disclosed. The method includes receiving, by a cloud computing system of the surgical system, first usage data, from a first subset of surgical hubs of the surgical system; receiving, by the cloud computing system, second usage data, from a second subset of surgical hubs of the surgical system; analyzing, by the cloud computing system, the first and the second usage data to correlate the first and the second usage data with surgical outcome data; determining, by the cloud computing system, based on the correlation, a recommended medical resource usage configuration; and displaying, on respective displays on the first and the second subset of surgical hubs, indications of the recommended medical resource usage configuration.
