SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR ANCHORING AND RESTRAINING GASTROINTESTINAL PROSTHESES
Systems and methods for anchoring and restraining gastrointestinal prostheses are disclosed. In various examples, the systems and methods include securing a gastrointestinal device within a patient's anatomy by extending an anti-migration anchor through a plurality of portions of the gastrointestinal device to couple together the plurality of portions of the gastrointestinal device. In some examples, the anti-migration anchor extends through tissue situated between the plurality of portions of the gastrointestinal device.
Gastroesophageal reflux treatment system, method, and device
An improved gastroesophageal reflux preventer and related methods are provided. The improved gastroesophageal reflux preventer may include an absorbable material able to be placed in contact with a body organ and configured to induce a scarification of the body organ in response to absorption by the body organ of the material. In this manner, a proximate sphincter may be tightened, such as to ameliorate reflux through a gastroesophageal sphincter.
FIXATION OF INTRALUMINAL DEVICE
An intraluminal device and method of fixation of an intraluminal device to resist distal migration in a mammalian lumen or hollow organ that is subject to peristalsis, according to an aspect of the invention, includes spaced apart wall portions connected with a connector. The wall portions are configured to the size and shape of a portion of the lumen or hollow organ and the connector is configured to be positioned against a wall of the lumen or hollow organ. The intraluminal device is positioned in a mammalian lumen or hollow organ that is subject to peristalsis. The device is fixed in the lumen or hollow organ against distal migration, wherein tissue lining the lumen or hollow organ bridges over the connector. The device is explanted after tissue bridges over the connector including separating the connector from one or both of the wall portions and withdrawing the connector axially from the tissue bridging over the connector.
COMPLEX SURGICAL DEVICE FOR CARRYING OUT AND PROTECTING AN ANASTOMOSIS
The present invention relates to a complex surgical device for carrying out an anastomosis in the intestine including: a- a protective device (5) comprising an anchor element consisting of a stent (1) and a flexible outer sheath (2), and b- an introducer (10) comprising at least a first deformable guide tube (12), characterized in that the downstream end of said outer sheath is connected to said first guide tube (12) or to a first connecting piece (11), said outer sheath (2) being folded inside said first deformable guide tube (12), said stent being held in radial compression inside said first deformable guide tube.
ENDOLUMINAL DEVICE
An endoluminal valve (30) for controlling fluid flow during a surgical procedure is integrated into an access branch (24) of a tubular prosthetic device (10), the access branch (24) receiving a delivery system (100) including a shaft (110), a housing (112) with a depressible finger actuator (122) configured to contact a resilient wall surface (38) of inwardly tapering closure elements at the proximal end (32) of the endoluminal valve (30), wherein the proximal end (32) is secured within a lumen (26) of the access branch (24) and a distal end (36) of the endoluminal valve (30) located within the lumen (26) comprises self-sealing edges (42) coming together to form a flow-inhibiting seal.
Stomach peristalsis device and method
The invention relates to an implantable stomach prosthesis for surgically replacing or augmenting all or part of the antrum and/or pylorus of a stomach. The prosthesis controls the passage of food from the stomach to the small intestine. The prosthesis may be configured to churn ingested material and release it from the stomach through a prosthetic pyloric valve. At least one expandable member is arranged to be expanded to control the passage of food and/or to mimic the churning action of a patient's stomach. The prosthesis includes an outer support structure, a flexible inner member forming a conduit for the movement of material, and at least one expandable member located between the outer support structure and inner member. An implantable pump system is provided for inflating and deflating the expandable member(s).
Bariatric device and method
A bariatric device and method of causing at least partial satiety in a recipient includes positioning a body in a recipient, the body having a wall defining a lumen, the wall configured to generally conform to the shape and size of the proximal cardiac portion of the stomach. Force is exerted with the wall on the proximal cardiac portion of the stomach in the absence of food thereby activating receptors located in the proximal cardiac portion of the stomach, thereby influencing a neurohormonal feedback mechanism of the recipient to cause at least partial satiety by augmenting fullness caused by food and simulating fullness in the absence of food.
Apparatus for treating reflux disease (GERD) and obesity
An obesity treatment apparatus comprises at least one operable stretching device (10) implantable in an obese patient and adapted to stretch a portion (12a) of the patient's stomach wall (12), and an operation device (16, 18) for operating the stretching device when implanted to stretch the stomach wall portion such that satiety is created.
GASTROINTESTINAL BYPASS DEVICES AND RELATED METHODS OF USE
A bypass device may include an elongate member extending from a proximal end toward a distal end, and a proximal opening and a distal opening coupled to one another by a lumen disposed through the elongate member. The bypass device also may include at least one port extending through a side surface of the elongate tubular member, wherein at least a portion of the bypass device may be bioabsorbable.
PROTECTIVE APPARATUS FOR USE IN GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT
An apparatus may be used after a surgical procedure to protect against leaks and to separate healing tissue from foreign materials such as nutritional contents. In some cases the apparatus may be easily delivered to a surgical site before, during or after a surgical procedure such as gastric bypass surgery, but this is only an example. The apparatus may include expandable anchors at either end and a collapsible central portion extending between the two expandable anchors.
