Voice prosthesis with connecting feature
A voice prosthesis comprising a outer cannula and an inner cannula wherein the outer cannula is generally in the shape of a spool and comprises two flanges connected by a hollow annular stem therebetween, and the inner cannula comprises a proximal flange and a stem configured to fit within a passageway of the stem of the outer cannula. The outer cannula comprises a retaining slot on its outer proximal edge which can be used to rotationally secure an obround inner cannula proximal flange. The inner cannula may also comprise windows for use with retaining nubs disposed on the interior of the outer cannula passageway and an insertion tool having a moveable protrusions.
Device for splinting a cavity, organ duct and/or vessel
The invention relates to a device for splinting and/or maintaining a cavity, an organ duct and or a vessel in a human or animal body, said device including at least one compressible and self-expanding stent that is composed of at least three phases.
Voice prosthesis with disposable inner cannual valve assembly
A voice prosthesis to be mounted in a fistula between trachea and esophagus includes an outer cannula and a removable, disposable inner cannula. Both outer and inner cannula are tubular shaped with the inner cannula fitting inside the outer cannula. The inner cannula element with a through passage and a valve mechanism controlling the connection through said passage. A coupling mechanism is provided on the proximal end of the inner cannula to provide easy, releasable attachment of the inner cannula to the outer cannula. The inner cannula is inexpensively constructed and is dimensionally compatible with the outer cannula.
Intra-laryngeal prosthesis comprising a sealing skirt
The invention relates to an intra-laryngeal prosthesis (PIL) for insertion into a larynx, said prosthesis PIL having an upper portion (PH) comprising: a tubular inner wall (1) with a first end, referred to as upper end (2), and a second end, referred to as lower end (3); a tubular outer wall (4) with a first end, referred to as upper end (2) and a second end, referred to as lower end (3), said outer wall (4) surrounding at least a portion of the inner wall (1); a plurality of ribs (5) extending in the direction of the main axis (X) of the prosthesis and connecting the inner wall (1) with the outer wall (4) such that a plurality of cells (6) are formed between the inner wall (1) and the outer wall (4).
Medical device insertion method and apparatus
A device for maintaining a tract through a tissue wall having a proximal side and a distal side. The device includes a body, a retainer adjacent an end of the body which will lie on the distal side in the use orientation, and a flange adjacent an end of the body which will lie on the proximal side in the use orientation. The retainer comprises a ferromagnetic material that responds to a magnetic field to maintain the retainer in an undeployed, insertion orientation.
Self-adjusting medical device
A device for sealing a fistula includes a first flange for orienting against a first wall of the fistula, a second flange for orienting against a second wall of the fistula, and at least one stem coupling the first and second flanges. Illustratively, the at least one stem is elastomeric. The stem(s) exhibit(s) an elongation of greater than about 0.6 mm/N of force applied between the first and second flanges in the range of elongation of about 0 mm to about 15 mm. Additionally or alternatively illustratively, the stem(s) comprise(s) (an) elastomeric tube(s) including (a) wall section(s) having a varying radius along its (their) length(s). Additionally or alternatively illustratively, the stem(s) pass(es) through (respective) opening(s) provided in at least one of the first and second flanges to permit adjustment of the location of at least one of the first and second flanges along the length of the stem(s).
Voice prosthesis
A voice prosthesis for mounting in a fistula between trachea and esophagus is provided. The voice prosthesis comprises a tubular body having a lumen, a valve disc and a valve seat. The valve disc and a valve seat are arranged in the lumen of the tubular body, such that the valve disc and the valve seat control the connection through the lumen by interaction between the valve disc and the valve seat. A sealing rim is arranged between the valve disc and the valve seat, such that the interaction between the valve disc and the valve seat is obtained via the rim. A method for manufacturing a voice prosthesis is also provided.
Rhamnolipid coating of medical devices
The present disclosure relates to a medical device having irregular and/or curved silicone surfaces, wherein at least a part of the irregular and/or curved silicone surfaces is coated with rhamnolipids. The present disclosure also relates to a method of coating a medical device having irregular and/or curved silicone surfaces with rhamnolipids, wherein the method comprises the steps of 1) activating the silicone surfaces that are to be coated by introducing free amino-groups; and 2) covalently attaching rhamnolipids to said silicone surfaces. The present disclosure also relates to a voice prosthesis, for mounting in a fistula between trachea and esophagus, wherein at least a part of the voice prosthesis comprises silicone and at least a part of said silicone being coated with rhamnolipids.
