The method includes a step of receiving a stream of agricultural seed into a metering assembly. The method then includes a step of determining an inflow rate of the stream of agricultural seed based on a measurement of the agricultural seed within the metering assembly. Further, the method includes a step of commanding an adjustable gate into a command position to discharge the agricultural seed from the metering assembly at an outflow rate that matches the inflow rate.
