Mechanical structure with integrated electronic components
An electronic device may include a mechanical structure that mechanically supports the electronic device. One or more traces may be formed on one or more surfaces of the mechanical structure. Other electrical components may also be mounted on the surface of the mechanical structure and may or may not be connected to one or more of the traces. Additionally, one or more passivation layers may be formed on one or more of the surfaces, traces, and/or other electrical components and one or more traces and/or other electrical components may be intermixed with such passivation layers. In this way, the mechanical structure may be operable to function as an electrical component of the electronic device.
Over-mold foam enclosure
The disclosure describes methods of fabricating a single-piece housing for an electronic device using an injection molding process. Illustrative fabrication processes describe variations of positioning internal components of an electronic device into a mold enclosure and injecting a foam material to produce a single-piece housing that surrounds the internal components. The single-piece housing may be fabricated to provide the electronic device with at least some buoyancy, as well a means to expel thermal radiation emanating from internal components. Further, the fabricated single-piece housing provides enough structural rigidity to protect internal components of the electronic device from damage, while retaining some malleability to flex without damage when an external pressure is applied.
Sensor calibration based on device use state
A wearable device includes: a first sensor configured to provide a first sensor signal; a second sensor configured to provide a second sensor signal; and a processor configured to i) determine whether the wearable device is being worn based on the first sensor signal, and ii) calibrate the second sensor responsive to determining that the wearable device is being worn. Also, a holdable device includes a first sensor configured to provide a first sensor signal; a second sensor configured to provide a second sensor signal; and a processor configured to i) determine whether the holdable device is being held based on the first sensor signal, and ii) calibrate the second sensor responsive to determining that the holdable device is being held.
Electronic device
The electronic device 1 is provided with a touch panel 3, vibration units 15 and 16 that vibrate the touch panel 3, and a display unit 18 disposed adjacent to the backside of the touch panel 3. The display unit 18 is held suspended from the touch panel 3 via a flexible member 24 disposed along the entire periphery of the display unit 18, improves dust resistance and water resistance, as an electronic device that includes and vibrates a panel forming the external appearance of the electronic device, while making it difficult to inhibit vibration of the panel.
ELECTRONIC DEVICE INCLUDING NONMETALLIC LIGHT GUIDE STRUCTURE
Disclosed in various embodiments of the present document are: a structure including a nonmetallic material and guiding, in one direction, light incident on one side; and an electronic device including the structure in an inner space thereof. According to the various embodiments, provided is an electronic device comprising: a housing having an inner space, and including an outer surface facing a first direction, an inner space facing the direction opposite to the first direction, and a display unit which is formed between the outer surface and the inner space and which has a thickness through which light passes through; a printed circuit board arranged in the inner space; at least one light-emitting element arranged in the inner space; and a nonmetallic structure arranged in the inner space, wherein the nonmetallic structure includes: a first part having a light guide between the light-emitting element and the display unit and including a transparent or translucent first material; a second part which is integrally formed with the first part, includes the first material, and is directly or indirectly fixed to the printed circuit board or the housing; and a third part encompassing at least a portion of the light guide and including a translucent second material. The nonmetallic light guide structure and the electronic device including same can be varied according to embodiments.
Case for electronic device having magnetic elements for connection with external magnetic elements
A case for a portable electronic device, the portable electronic device having a housing that carries a first magnetic element capable of forming a first magnetic circuit through the housing with a magnetic element external to the portable electronic device capable of securing together the housing and the external magnetic element. The case can include a body having a bottom wall and side walls that combine to define a recessed region suitable for retaining the portable electronic device and a second magnetic element located at a position corresponding to the external magnetic element such that when the portable electronic device is carried in the recessed region, the second magnetic element forms a second magnetic circuit through the body with the external magnetic element that is capable of securing together the case and the external magnetic element.
Computing Device Comprising Interengaging Modular Computing Units
A modular computing unit 1 of a generally flat configuration has a housing (10) presenting external facets (10a, 10b), on each of which there is a respective set (11) of external electrical power and signal connectors (12) and physical coupling elements (13). The housing (10) is of generally hexagonal shape, the facets (10a, 10b) being arranged around the circumference of the hexagon. Facets (10a) are inclined upwardly at an angle and alternate with facets (10b) that are inclined downwardly at the same angle. The connector sets (11) are disposed on the facets (10a, 10b) in consistent positions and in a regular array around the housing (10). The physical coupling elements (13) are disposed within or alongside the connector sets (11). Any number of modular computing elements (1) may readily be connected to one another in various different 2D and 3D configurations, with power and signal connections via the connector sets (11).
Vehicle entertainment tablet unit and cradle
A vehicle entertainment system includes a tablet unit and a cradle. The tablet unit includes a display and a touch screen input device disposed on a front surface, a first electrical connection, a first mounting mechanism, and a wireless receiver. The wireless receiver is configured to receive media data from a wireless network and the touch screen input device is configured to receive input from a user. The cradle is disposed in a headrest in a vehicle and includes a second electrical connection and a second mounting mechanism. The tablet unit is electrically connected to the cradle via the first and second electrical connections, and is physically coupled to the cradle via the first and second mounting mechanisms upon mounting the tablet unit to the cradle.
