A printing apparatus includes a printer having a first processor and a printing unit. A registration device is connected to the printer. The registration device includes a second processor and has a printer driver. The printer stores a control program that when executed by the first processor causes the printer to request the printer driver to cause the printer to request first maintenance information of the registration device from the printer driver. The printer, under control of the control program, acquires second maintenance information, which represents maintenance information of the printer, and outputs at least one of the first and second maintenance information.

Information Handling System Hybrid Keyboard

An information handling system input device coordinates presentation of keyboard augmentation panels proximate a keyboard resting on a horizontally-disposed touchscreen display. The keyboard augmentation panels relate keyboard and other inputs to an application active on the information handling system to enhance end user interactions. A keyboard augmentation module tracks the keyboard position on the touchscreen display to adapt content presentation in the keyboard augmentation panels based upon expected end user inputs. In other embodiments, other physical devices are augmented to have hybrid graphical interfaces that enhance multi-hand end user interactions.

Simultaneous wireless connections with improved efficiency

An interface circuit in a computing device may communicate with user-interface devices using shared slots during time intervals. In particular, the computing device may transmit outgoing messages to the user-interface devices at a first predefined time during sequential time intervals when the user-interface devices transition from a sleep mode to a normal mode. In response, the computing device may receive incoming messages from one or more of the user-interface devices at a second predefined time following the first predefined time during the sequential time intervals. Then, the computing device may transmit a multicast message to the user-interface devices at a third predefined time during the sequential time intervals. In response to the given multicast message, one of the user-interface devices may communicate data to the computing device. Note that, in some instances, a multicast time slot may instead be used to communicate data to one of the user-interface devices.

Sculpted displays for clickable user interactions

Systems and methods are disclosed of a touch screen display wherein the surface of the touch screen display comprises a sculpted and/or contoured portion. The sculpted/contoured portion gives a user a tactile sense of a portion of the touch screen where commands may be actuated and/or data may be selected. The touch screen display may further be in communication with a physical switch where additional pressure by the user may be used to actuated a command associated with a selected portion of the display. Such a switch may be a piezo structure or other type of physical switch that may also be incorporated into a smart device/controller. Other embodiments may comprise haptic and/or audio feedback upon detection of the user's presence at a desired part of the touch screen display.

Foldable display

A foldable display is disclosed. In one aspect, the foldable display includes a foldable display panel including first to fourth regions adjacent to each other. The foldable display also includes a first support located on a rear surface of the first region and a second support located on a rear surface of the fourth region. The foldable display panel is configured to be arranged in a first configuration in which the foldable display panel is unfolded and a second configuration in which the foldable display panel is folded so that the first support supports the first and second regions and the second support supports the third and fourth regions.

RESPONSIVE, VISUAL PRESENTATION OF INFORMATIONAL BRIEFS ON USER REQUESTED TOPICS

A method and electronic device that enables quick presentation of user briefs on the electronic device includes: receiving, at the electronic device, an informational brief (IB) request (IBR) input that includes an identifier of a topic and a trigger that causes the electronic device to open an IB content screen that temporarily presents specific information corresponding to the topic. In response to receipt of the IB input, the method further includes: retrieving the IB content screen, with content that includes at least one of the specific information; presenting the IB content screen on the electronic device; monitoring an elapsed presentation time for the IB content screen on the electronic device; comparing the elapsed presentation time against a time limit allocated for presenting the IB content screen; and in response to expiration of the time limit, closing the IB content screen to return the device to its previous operating state.

Proximity and multi-touch sensor detection and demodulation

The use of one or more proximity sensors in combination with one or more touch sensors in a multi-touch panel to detect the presence of a finger, body part or other object and control or trigger one or more functions in accordance with an “image” of touch provided by the sensor outputs is disclosed. In some embodiments, one or more infrared (IR) proximity sensors can be driven with a specific stimulation frequency and emit IR light from one or more areas, which can in some embodiments correspond to one or more multi-touch sensor “pixel” locations. The reflected IR signal, if any, can be demodulated using synchronous demodulation. In some embodiments, both physical interfaces (touch and proximity sensors) can be connected to analog channels in the same electrical core.
